I’m almost 20 years old, and I just tried this fragrance today. It’s definitely old school, but I love it. It’s great
I just turned 33 and I just now feel worthy to wear it. Truly a man's fragrance.
Ha I'm in my mid 20s and I feel worthy of wearing this considering I have a vast collection of modern scents I also have quite a few other classic powerhouse vintage ones yet I lean more towards my rugged masculine powerhouse classic scents they have been growing more on me throughout the years .
@@DavidElCowboyVaquero Hey if you like it that's what matters right? I care a little more about who notices it, it's definitely not women in their 20's.
@@omanafire exactly which is why I have those modern ones to please young women & the other ones which I appreciate the craftsmanship & wear them only for myself. Considering they may be offputting too daring or dated / too masculine for today's modern day noses/ standards & this generation which has soften up a lot over the years. Everything for men now n days has become more feminine / unisex definitely not my cup I've always been more rugged masculine !!!
I am 56 years old and live in a tropical country. I have been using Aramis classic since I was a teenager. I have tried other fragrances but always come back to this. Absolutely love it.
@@TheChapsGuide i use their body wash, their after shave lotion and their deodorant stick as well.
A very enjoyable review. Well done! Aramis was my first 'proper' fragrance in the late 1970s during my teenage years. My girlfriend of the time decided she'd had enough of my horrid cheapo fragrances (Denim, Hai Karate, Brut 33, etc) and so she upped my game considerably by purchasing a bottle of Aramis for my birthday. Thus began my lifelong love affair with perfume....
Its a regular in my winter rotation and always will be - its a real star.
Wow Aramis for meus a fragrance that comes and goes in my life but is never forgotten or ignored.
I found it whilst serving in the army back in the early 80's and was my go to fragrance for many a year.
It's something after seeing your excellent video that will soon be going back in my fragrance drawer.
It is, without doubt, one of the all time classics for chaps. There will always be a place for Aramis in my collection. And extremely modestly priced to boot!!
Absolute classic. My dad bought Aramis back in the 80s and he used it for years. A beautiful chypre.
Hello Chap’s Guide. I enjoyed your review of Aramis very much. Aramis has been my signature fragrance since the mid 70s. I remember a female classmate in high school was the first to compliment my Aramis fragrance so from that moment on it has been special to me. I have evolved over the years to prefer Aramis during the cooler months as you mentioned. In the warmer months I prefer Tabac by Maurer & Wirtz, a much lighter fragrance. I have recently added the Tom Ford fragrance “Blanking” Fabulous” as my third fragrance. It is for very special occasions and in my opinion it is fabulous!! Thank you for your videos.
I love Tabac also. Aramis is a perfect choice for a winter fragrance for the classic chap-smell. In fact - I'm wearing it today!!
Always really enjoy your reviews and this one was both interesting, informative and may I say with the lovely background, very easy on the eye. Interesting choice of pocket square.
Thank you for your kind words. Sadly the borders are looking less colourful now (I filmed this vid in early Sept).
Love your reviews, Ashley! I have Aramis Gentleman, which I quite like, and it looks like I'll now have to add Aramis Classic to my repertoire. Looking forward to it!
Its a classic of the fragrance world that stands the test of time - For Indiana Jones's everywhere!
Man, love your accent and voice. Its so soothing to hear
I just bought a bottle today and sprayed a bit on my arm to test it. I took a shower not long after and even after scrubbing my arm I can still smell it. Amazing fragrance, especially for an EDT.
Aramis has always been my trusty friend. I have worn multiple colognes over the years but i return to Aramis all the time.
I used this throughout the 1980’s and liked it back then, along with Kouros and some others in fashion at the time, maybe I should revisit some of these fragrances... it’ll probably bring back some memories... another informative review..
I think Aramis has stood the test of time rather well - still quietly confident and slightly sophisticated!
Loved Aramis as a young man in the 90’s and the thumbnail got my attention.
I’m 61 and have been using Aramis since I was around 30. Also in the aftershave and deodorant version. My wife loves it 👍
This one has a barbershop, after shave sort of smell in a good way and I love the sharpness and acridity in it. It's so against the grain, it's almost trendy.
Great review. Love that you include old marketing ads too..Super
I love the old ads - I have a folder full of them for my future reviews, they are more works of art than some of the crap on TV these days.
Couldn’t agree more.. Part of the reason I gave up watching mainstream tv. They used to have thought, style and consideration. Today it seems a student with an interest in cgi, no discernible talent and the desire to piss off the viewer is the advert template
I have used this in the past. Good stuff!
Just blind-bought this and sprayed it on myself. It is powerfully masculine. I would recommend two sprays of this at most to avoid overwhelming others. However I think this is a really nice and seductive smell. I still prefer Polo Green to fill the masculine throwback slot of my arsenal--it's fresher, just as masculine, and smells less like you're *trying* to smell masculine--but this would work in different contexts, especially dates and social gatherings, if you use it sparingly.
Im on a school trip to LA and one of the things on my to find-list was this and i found it! I tried it and i love it! (I knew i would🤪) this got a real kick! Its kind of the xxl version of dunhill for men! It also reminds me of my West Brand vintage leather, only this is much more refined and more tuned! But yeah i can recognize the West Brand in it! Very pleased !!
In my opinion, it's the best men's fragrance ever. Thanks for the review.
Great review on a masterpiece. Thanks. 👍🏻
Been wearing it since the 70s I have been told a few times, I am lucky that when I perspire, it mixes well & not go bad, they used to send me bits etc. as a long time Customer.
This and the original Xeryus are my two favorites, though they are quite different. Both have their place, generally Aramis at night but it depends on the season.
Timeless. Classy. Masculine. A MUST for any gentleman.
I love this aramis I remember buying my first bottle not long after watching a couple of episodes of mad men when it first came out because it something I always thought don draper would wear I remember when I worked in an office aswell as the perfume shop on weekends over Christmas and I always remember the girls in the office love the smell and the girls in the perfume shop hateing it saying it smelt like old men, this scent works well with my suit and slicked hair
I think it conjures up those images in my mind. As a chap of 50-years of age, I associate this fragrance with the heady days of the 80s and 90s and of power-dressing and powerful scents on men and women - happy times!
I recently gifted this to my boyfriend and i love the way it has worked out.
I was a much younger man when I began wearing Aramis, and it is still my flagship fragrance.
Have just bought a 110ml bottle of this fir 19.99 uk pounds.
I am not disappointed, its a welcome addition to my collection.
Nice review by the way ,

@@TheChapsGuide im enjoying very thankyou !!
The oakmoss note reminds be qurom a liitle bit , but the floral notes and the powdery notes, on top of the masterful blend set these two apart.
Perfect for this time of year
Excellent description, I also detect something peppery about it. Perfect barbershop fragrance!
my now wife started working in john lewis department stores in 1988 in perfumery department and im the first year there i think i was introduced to the fragrance and used it ever since then, as you say its definately an evening fragrance of autumn winter////I have a couple of other of the aramis fragrences now too
I am a woman and I bought this fragrance because Freddie Mercury use to wear it. I love it!
It's a good fragrance I've only had the classic I've never tried the other aramis range, someone told me to try aramis voyager and that it was their favourite, I can't see it being better than the classic though
I love Aramis. It always was a great fragrance, distinctive, masculine yet it is sophisticated. Definitely the weapon of choice for a good evening out. The guidance about not wearing it in the office during the day is wise. As the women in the office will be all over you like a rash sir!
It certainly has been marketed as a lady pleaser - a good masculine scent and one of the true classics!
I purchased a bottle of Aramis recently. It's a wonderful scent. The first time I put it on, my wife said, "That's really nice."
Aramis is pure male hormones in a bottle; I've been wearing Aramis for a very long time, it's so classic and manly, a powerful juice that radiates sophistication and pedigree in a high status, I just love this fragrance, and I also keep Aramis along with its cousin Quorum that together became my most beloved fragrances ever, for fall and winter nothing can suit better than Aramis and/or Quorum, and for the summer Agua Brava and Brummel .............. you cannot get more macho than this.
I fully agree, in fact I have been working through many of the Aramis flankers and have found them to be excellent value also (Aramis Adventurer tried last week - video coming soon).
Quoram is one of my favourite winter frags and I also have a bottle of Agua Brava (and Agua Brava Azul) and Brummel. Antionio Puig rarely disappoints for the price.
Aramis is a classic fragrance. Every time i slap this on after a shave i feel like a King.
This is the king of fragrances
I'm a fragrance colector and today, during my lunch break bought a large bottle. It brought me back to my first bottle of 1986! When I was 16. Absolutely beautiful.
Awesome review 😊! ARAMIS is 👑 KING 😊!
very good review. Yea, a little goes a long way. I think I read a long time ago that it was Jack Webb's favorite! It seems fitting for Sgt. Joe Friday!
I first smelled this only yesterday when i did a bit shopping. I was suprised how much I enjoyed this fragrance and will definitely buy it soon
@@TheChapsGuide i am looking forward to it. I have been trying to buy old classic fragrances lately. I just bought Acqua Di Parma Colonia which i love. Any classic scents i should buy that you love?
@@gentlemangaz3651 Quoram is an absolute champion from this era and cheap as chips. I’m wearing it today!!
@@TheChapsGuide so because of you i have ordered Aramis and Floris 89 lol. Looking forward to their arrival
ARAMIS was found among Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s belongings - neatly packed in his overnight suitcase - on the day he was assassinated in April 1968. It was the quintessential mid-late sixties urbane masculine fragrance, and many celebrities of that time wore it, from MLK to Robert Kennedy, to the ‘Rat Pack’ (it was famously also Sammy Davis Jr’s signature fragrance, as well as Dean Martin’s and Peter Lawford’s - but Frank Sinatra reputedly detested it because it was so ubiquitous in Hollywood, Broadway, and the Las Vegas strip; he favoured lighter scents like 4711, Yardley’s English Lavender, and Puig’s Agua de Lavanda instead).
You’re most welcome, Ashley; a channel like yours is deserving of every consideration. Please keep on doing what you do. Greetings from Greece.
Takes me back to my youth the deodorant is amazing too
My old man used to use it, was the first one I used too as a kind since I spray it on me before going to primary school lol.
I like Aramis a lot and still wear it regularly in the colder months. It unfortunate though, like many classic fragrances, has been 'watered down' (due to restricted and substituted ingredients), their formulations are a shadow of what they used to be. However, unless anyone had experience of if back in the day, they'd appreciate Aramis now for what it is - an enduring classic.
Its still a classic and quite pungent, even in its present form - it must have been quite a stinker back in its stronger days!!
Yes l too fell in love with aramis classic,as you say it is watered down,no longer smell as it used to be
Such an exellent description .. You are so right.. Thank you sir :) 101
Aramis and Givenchy Gentleman ... You cannot go wrong !!
My dad wears this and has for years, great fragrance, and very powerful and distinct. I personally don't think this is a young person's cologne, it's a formal fragrance imo it's rugged and suit and tie type fragrance INDIANA JONES definitely would wear this.
Its a true classic and most likely will be worn by classic chaps for another 60-years hopefully.
My late father used to wear the After Shave for as long as I remember. Now, nearly three years after his death, I tried it for myself. What shall I say? It gives me this comfortable feeling and confidence. And my fiancé loves it!
I've been wearing Aramis for over 30 years. I also love Tuscany by Aramis, but prefer the Original, scent to wear at night.
After wearing this for 2 weeks I have been trying to figure out what this smells like. Finally figured it out. Smells like an old brass bell or ashtray. I do like it though.
Aramis is on my list of fragrances to acquire thank you for your review Ash, have you tried Cerruti 1881 (Pour Homme)? It is one of my favourites being a younger gent.
I've not tried Cerruti 1881 - but it looks like I will be doing so soon, as you are the 2nd person to ask that question today. (I've just ordered a bottle on Amazon).
I'm 35yo I love this fragrance a true classic that my grandpa use to wear
Your own grandchildren will say the same about you in the future, because Aramis is a classic that will outlive us all!!
I fell in love with a man in the 80’s who wore this. I will never forget this scent. 40 years later. No one around me wears this… So I'm going to make this my unisex fragrance because I love it! 😂
Pacco Rabbane Pour Homme for summer, Aramis for winter.... Masculine set!
Great video!!!
Have you tried Creed Green Irish Tweed? I feel it would suit your style quite well.
I love it - have only tried it in department stores due to its exorbitant price, but one day!
like the box, classic scent
You say that this is definitely not unisex, and I understand why, but you should try Cabochard by Gres for women . . . pretty similar smell and by the same perfumer.
Just smelled it ladt week on a vacation in Gran Canaria, a bloke standing in line blew me away with it in that heat, i asked my wife if the liked it, and to my surprice sha said it was actualy realy good, smelled soapy clean, but she was werry shocked when i told her what frag it was.
So Im buying it.
after about 5 years of wearing lighter, aqua modern scents, I must say I’m a bit burnt out on them. Still good for warm weather, but I’m loving these older masculine scents. Aramis, Yatagan, even Davidoff Zino smell amazing. I’m even getting into fragrances with leather/musk notes. And yes, you must be mindful of the amount of sprays. The younger ladies seem to be more attracted to modern fruity scents, but I’d rather smell it on them than me.
Wonderful video and great channel, i suscribed immifiatly! Keep goin sir ! But i need to say i cant related indiana jones photo with aramis. Still great video. Thank you !
A mature sent for winter,
Tobacco reserve is also nice, not as strong or lasting by comparison.
I love the musk scent 👃👌
I❤ Aramis
when you spray this one on your chest hair will instantly grow full as a shag carpet... SUPER MACHO DENTIST OFFICE SMELL.. like it alot dry down is where its best imo...cheers
You must review more fragrances. I like your detailed take on them. Please do consider the suggestion.
Regards.
Interesting story. Without Aramis sold as a first in department stores and pushing others to do the same colognes would still be barely affordable to the majority of the Gents living on a budget.
And it still smells good all these years later - a great fragrance for the classic chap!
It is what my father and grandfather are wearing most days. It is so unique that I can identify their presence 30 min after they are gone.
Best frag ever imho..shame it hasn't performed since the 2005 reform..😕 I still wear it..just have to carry a atomiser these days.
My dad had this Aramis in the 70s. He now wears Fahrenheit. People still wear Aramis? it smells of the 70s.
I have a bottle of my dear late Fathers, it's definitely Hyper masculine.
I thought it was named after the Musketeer, along with Athos, Porthos and D'Artagnan.
Highlly recomend Benley intense
I've heard good things about that juice - I'll look to add to my collection soon. Thanks for the tip.
I read a couple of reviews on Fragrantica saying the post 2019 batches don't last at all and turn into something else than the original on dry down. I haven't worn Aramis since my pre teens years in the 90s, so I can't tell if this statement is true. If anyone knows, please let me know.
I am afraid your observation is correct. I just bought Aramis EDT classic and I can't smell it literally within an hour. It could be nose-blindness I've developed, but given the superlatives I heard and read about,it has no lasting power at all. I think my batch is 2021.
@@truthmatters6069 Same for me. I bought Aramis a couple of days ago at the perfumery, instead of ordering it only for half the price online, because I was scared of cheap copies. Back at home i was really suprised about the intensity and the duration of the scent - it actually does not last long. So i was also thinking about nose-blindness. I sprayed a sample of Tom Ford Ombre Leather (it's an edp) into the room, just to quick check the smell, but the scent actually last there for a day, really recognizable, *without getting me into any kind of nose-blindness*. After some research i found a few comments - just like this one - which criticized the durability of Aramis, althoug many people are praising the duration of the scent...
Am wondering that why no one did review about the Aramis EDT Concentree ? Is it the stronger version? Has it more projection? Is it discontinued? I could see a version of Aramis EDT 240 ml Special Edition . Please share your experiences with that two versions? Thanks.
Just got this 2 days ago. When first sprayed I got this blast of cinnamon, alot like Big Red gum, wife also thought the same. Then it dried down to just smelling really powdery, with that Big Red cinnamon gum smell still lurking in the background. Didn't get any woodsy or leather notes in this either, especially given the fact, that after sprayed on wrist scent is gone in 25 minutes. Expected a lot more with supposedly a classic fragrance. To me it's very weak, and will never repurchase again. I own Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Drakkar Noir, Hugo Boss Man, and Brut, to me all great fragrances that pack a serious punch. Aramis doesn't even have the strength and longevity that Brut splash on has.
@@TheChapsGuide Yeah I ordered from Walmart. Would love to know how the real Aramis smells. Thanks for replying.
What major stores sell Aramis? I don’t want to buy online because of the knockoffs or fakes
You won't find many fakes of Aramis, it's cheap enough to avoid being cloned these days.
Agreed, it’s a classic masculine fragrance, but unfortunately it just doesn’t last anymore. Don’t know whether I got a bad batch, but my recent bottle (2021 purchase) doesn’t last anywhere near 4-5 hours ☹️
I have some from 2020, lasts 4 - 6 hours for me. Everyone's skin chemistry differs slights, perhaps it doesn't work particularly well with your skin type?
Might be the case, yes. I have Aramis Tobacco Reserve too and that lasts quite a bit. Pity about the regular Aramis though - I really like the fragrance.

Hi , Im middle aged 50s looking for a winter budget fragrance, what can you recommend?
Thanks 👍

@@TheChapsGuide Thanks, I hear that Aramis is becoming popular again and I have noticed the price increase.
I was wearing Aramis cologne in August 1978 when my girlfriend dumped me. I was devastated. So now I have mixed feelings about it!😀
Sorry to hear that, but it remains a favourite for millions and a true classic.
I used to love wearing Aramis. What a scent.
Also adoe Tabac.
No girl liked them, though ;)
So I JOOP! - a compromise.
Is that a Datejust 36 or 41?
Great choices, I am also a committed fan of Tabac - very different in nature to Aramis.
It is a DJ36 (stainless steel on a jubilee with blue dial). My idea of watch perfection.
@@TheChapsGuide Well, of course, I see that goreous Jubilee band, the nicest metal band in all watchmaking. I love 36mm DJs in all forms, but particularily the superlative combination: White gold fluted bezel, fluted crown, on Jubilee.
I actually despise blue-faced watches, but that's as matter of preference.
I also love smooth-bezel'd DJs on Oyster.
But the classic dimensions are a must! I have my father's 16013 reference 2-tone, which I seldom wear owing to its being precious to me, but I'm definitely pulling the trigger on a contemporary DJ soon. They look so much nicer now than they used to.
I did impulsively buy, when I first got into watches 4 yrs ago, a Sub (boring) & DJ 41 (big), which I immediatrely regretted & returned.
I do wish Rolex would come out w/ the OysterQuartz line again, as I very much prefer battery to mechanical.
I really love the DJ in 36, perfect for me, as I have a more modest sized wrist and I love the classic styling of the era in which the DJ was first introduced. I am saddened by the trend towards ever larger watches in the modern era. I have a Sub and a few other pieces, but to be honest the DJ keeps calling out to me over these other, so called more desirable watches. You should embrace your heirloom watch and wear it as often as possible - they bring such joy ( and memories) when worn against the skin. Best regards, Ash
In the original paco rabanne vein.
My ma just came with a bottle of this, im 14 though so seems a bit TO old school
Aramis is a true fragrance for a man and has no resemblence to the scent of a bouquet of flowers for grandma.
It’s certainly not a square bottle!! Seriously though, I’m asking Santa for one this year 🎅🏼
I'm 72 years old and have been wearing Aramis since the late 1960's. Other colognes have come and gone since then, but Aramis is still the one for me.
Its a classic that never ages - great choice sir!
I'd ordered a bottle of Aramis (original) and it arrived in my mailbox today.
'Couldn't wait until morning to check it out. I'm just loving the scent of it, 'truly loud in a way that only a vintage fragrance can be.
Do you have any experience with the other versions that Aramis has released over the years?
Such as 900 or Havana or others?
@@alwaysbeclosing5797 Yes, a very, very long time ago. While pleasant, none of them (to me) were as good as the classic. Of course, scents are very personal.
I’m 43 in a few days and just bought this. I love it. Can you tell me some other older colognes that you like? I think my taste leans towards older generation fragrances
Try Canoe, English Leather and Brut (which I've seen in drug stores).
