One odd thing I never understood was why they named the ape "It" when he's clearly King Kong. The original book is public domain and just the word Kong isn't trademarked. Sure at the time the film version of the character was owned by Universal, until years later when he's now in a three way film company copyright limbo. (Warner Bros/Legendary, Universal/RKO, and even Disney)
Thank you very much. I sure appreciate you reviewing this movie for me, pal. Especially since this is one of many films from Rankin/Bass that sadly people glance over. So, thanks for shedding some light on this underrated classic.
This is one of those movies I like a lot of parts of, but not it as a whole, especially the ending, the ending was just...weird. It's like they were rushed to the end and just made up whatever. I also find it funny that Francheska decides to employ Dracula as an ally, not thinking about what Dracula usually does with human women lol - though I guess what we found out at the end she wasn't worried about that part. Though also brings to mind the question of how nobody noticed that little secret, especially Dracula, hearing heartbeats and all that.
I can't prove it, but I swear "Hotel Transylvania" is a spiritual successor to THIS movie. There are too many parallels between the two films, and I can't unsee it. 16:55 I guess she must like it rough. 😉
Believe it or not I never seen this movie period. But after watching one of CR’s videos where he talk about this and the other one, I did watch it for the first time. It was okay in my opinion, but I do love Ethel Ennis’ two songs she sang in the movie.
The Frankenstein Monster being called "Fang" is actually an in-joke--that was Phyllis Diller's name for her husband in her comedy routines. Anyway, I don't get why they shoehorned in The Hunchback of Notre Dame as a Universal Monster...when The Phantom Of The Opera was RIGHT THERE.
Always nice to see some more obscure Rankin Bass specials that aren't their Christmas specials get some spotlight. Though why the Frankenstein Monster's mate looks like a weird granny than an actual Bride of Frankenstein is anyone's guess...
How come this might be the last Rankin/Bass review you do? After all, there's lots of other films from this underrated film company that deserve a chance to shine in the spotlight.
Mad Monster Party is one of Rankin Bass's hidden gems, from it's gorgeous stopmotion animation, collab between Universal Monsters and voice acting, however it's very flawed. I don't get why the Bride of Frankenstein's Monster looks like an old hag, and second the story isn't that amazing compared to other RB specials(especially the double entendres); but it's still decent tho. And a whole review where the Media Hunter doesn't make jokes to Young Frankenstein? Hell yeah!

Especially since they made a cartoon starring the big gorilla literally named "The King Kong Show"
Stop motion amazing, Acting amazing, Songs amazing. Seriously this gets me in the mood for Halloween.
More like Media Hunter Monster Movie Party!

My guess is that with Dracula and Hyde being in attendance another well-dressed fiend in a cape would be one caped fiend too many.

I guess they were trying to make her look more like her voice actress Phyllis Diller.
@@jenniferschillig3768They were.
