what lens, iso, and other advice you can provide. I shot on 800 iso and with a zoom lens at 35 but still see some noise in the black. what can I do on camera to get rid of it?

It is always important when shooting with slog3 to over expose your image without clipping, then just bring down the exposer in post. That usually minimized the noise in the shadows but if it is not enough, a touch of noise reduction always helps!

Really nice. Wanted to ask a question i recently bought this camera and was trying to shoot a short film of a man having a nightmare so im looking for this kind of look as in your film. At ths moment i have a Sony 1.8 35 mm lense. But when i try filming in slog 3 cine el it always says low light.... Then i look at the footage on my computer and its terrible full of noise.. im new to filmaking but from what i understand is you can't change the ISO on this camera in cine el. So what can i do or how did you achieve this look? I hear about over exposing but i don't understand how to do that exactly... Like i can't find a button that opens the exposure on the camera... Is there one or is it in the settings? Ive tried the contrast button on the viewfinder but it still keeps saying "low light". I tried brightening the video in post but it looks even more noisy then i tried making it darker but then i can't see anything... Any help really appreciated ...

Great question, the common misconception of making the scene brighter is not through the camera, but making the scene brighter physically with lights and then bringing it down in post. The Sony 1.8f 35mm is a fine lens to start with. With cine EI, you are not necessarily changing the brightness of the image but the dynamic range and where the information is gathering the most, either highlights or shadows. When filming with low light it is very common to light up the scene appropriately so there are no loss of information for the sensor to gather. Then, hopefully you have lighten it slightly over exposed without clipping any highlights, you will go to your post production can bring everything down to your desired exposure thus reducing the amount of noise in the image. It’s always better to bring the exposure down the up. I hope this helps you and I hope this help with your filmmaking journey!! It all takes time and patience, I’m sure you will be a great filmmaker if you keep practicing. Please don’t hesitate to keep asking if anything need clarification.
