- Shadow is a pure-breed German Shepherd - almost 2 years old and about 38kg
This is a snippet of what Shadow gets up to on a typical weekend so keep in mind you don't see every single thing he does that day. I specifically choose certain activities to show for entertainment purposes. I skip, fast forward and take out a lot of clips - all you see is 10-20 minutes of a day in his life. These videos are meant to be fun and lighthearted of a German Shepherd living in New Zealand who has a a lot of freedom. He is in no way 'perfectly' trained or is on the 'perfect' diet. I'm still learning every day and improving to provide the best life for Shadow.
The house we were living in throughout this video was temporary so all containers used for drinking and feeding Shadow were TEMPORARY - he does not drink out of an ice-cream container or eat out of a small plastic lunch box on the daily!

Hi Vennesa, Shadow is a gorgeous GSD and you guys have done a great job training him. Thanks for posting your wonderful videos, they have been very therapeutic for me as I just lost my lovely 11 1/2 year old female GSD Minni a few days ago. The whole ordeal has absolutely ripped my heart out of my chest, just like in Indiana Jones and the temple of doom. Ive cried more in the last three days than my whole life put together. She was the most beautiful loving, loyal, happy, goofy dog ever. Also she was so loved I kissed, hugged, cuddled, spooned hug, smothered with overwhelming love every single day. You probably know dogs and GSD don't really like hugging but they tolerate it, but I would cuddle her so much till she would try to escape, then I would let go of her. When she slept at the foot of my bed, I would flip my head to the other end so I could hug her like a teddy bear. She would tolerate it until she thought I fell asleep, then she would get up and go lie down on the other end to get away from me. Then I would sort of wake up ( I had a six sense when she wasn't near me I could feel it) and switch sides again to be near her again. This could go on half a dozen times every night. I walked her every single day sometimes twice a day, for long happy walks and spent heaps of time with her everyday because I work in the evenings. When I was at uni she would lie by me on the bed while I stayed up
studying alone late at night. When your up till 3 or 4am with just you and your dog, it sort of felt like you and the dog are the alone on this planet, but I never felt lonely because I had her by side.
Anyone who has had a GSD and treated them with unconditional love will get that back a hundred times. They are always happy, never a bad day, these dogs are the most magical animals on the planet and having to share a part of your life with these furry angels are a true honour. Huskies don’t generally like shadow for some reason
Not all German Shepherds act like this. Takes LOTS of training. My German Shepherd Ranger is only 10 months and is very hyper an only listens to me. Police normally train their German Shepherds when they are 2 years old anyways. Once they’re more mellowed down

It's no joke. I had a trainer tell me they are literally 24/7 on alert.

I just got my German shepherd he’s the sweetest but he’s also a terror he sits on your face when your sleeping because he wants me to get up and he’s so clingy but I love him with all my heart

Great German Shepherd Dog. A dog(little bit trained) that you can let walk off without leash without having to worry about anything. They always make sure you are just along with them. Mine always makes a distance no more than 2 meters from me to step a foot further.
Extremely balanced temperament. They set their own boundaries to warn strangers. At least mine does so. To a certain boundary, he does not even bark. At second boundary, he will start barking at strangers to not come in close. Third boundary is like invitation to serious injuries if done so without any permission of the owner. Fourth boundary is the deadliest boundary if you come close to owner in any so hyper way. The results will surely be full of blood. You can guess... whose... :)
Mine have self trained himself for most of the parts. Many may disagree, but they can sense things before you do. Whenever I am about to go outside, it somehow happens that my buddy comes to know that. That is no joke. People who have GSDs and spend most of time with them will know this fact. They do have a extremely powerful sense to predict the forthcoming actions no matter what or how serious it is.
Btw, your buddy seems to love you(beautiful lady) more than your other half just like mine does. But, mine obeys my commands more than my other half. :)
My fox terrier x does all this.. most dogs do with correct obedience training
Jeez it’s so annoying when people portray their GSD as some magical creature any dog can do that my dog knows when I’m going outside and sits by the door so she can go too she’s a 7 pound mixed breed

New Zealand is under my feet hardly a place is further away from here. The New Zealanders say it is the most beautiful end of the world ?! Yes, I like what I see on your video and I would like to have such dog parks here. Shadow your German Shepherd looks very good !!! ... but he did not like the shower in the dog washroom so much, but that does not really please my GSD!

It’s amazing how Shadow behaves on que. You tell him to go to the bathroom and he goes. Parents can’t even get their kids to do that.
I myself use a flat shuvle and grass rake twice a day , my Boo is worth it , all of ours is worth is , for 6 year's he has and still is I'm my life he is good for me
I always wanted a German Shepherd. I am raised with Belgian Malinois dogs and Poodles so I think I could handle a GSD haha how do they usually get along with other dogs?
Banshee's depends on their training. I have a German Shepard now that barks and gets attracted to every dog, but after her training which I’m gonna start soon, she’ll learn not to do that x

Shadow is such a good boy ... a suggestion for bathing and brushing him , is blow dry him completely dry and blow against the direction of the way the fur grows and it will minimize the “job” of brushing him a bit . By the end of the blow dry ,your arms should be tired😂 and there will be fur everywhere, then you can brush him afterwards cuz ya know that’s fun sometimes .he will be even fluffier than normal too
