Josh Homme looks like a college kid who won some kinda "play a concert with the Screaming Trees" contest.
Bahahaha strangely accurate
Yeah for real...but that kid god damn already has legendary albums left behind...and in those albums are some of the best guitar riffs in rock n roll history.
That’s almost what happened. I think he went to Seattle after Kyuss broke up to go back to college. While he was in town, he ended up joining the Trees for their tour.
I read a interview where Josh said that after Kyuss he needed a break to just play with a band that he was friends with, and the Trees were right there, which sort of explains why he took a sideman role with them and never tried to become a real creative partner.
Great video 🤘🤘🤘
Josh Homme looks like an undercover cop ….
That was a good story in the book
bit different watching this now after reading the book and knowing how ill he was. damn he's had a life
QueenConsternation reading it now, it’s hard to put down. Incredible.
Crazy good book.
I've had the book 3 days and nearly finished it, it's a griping read! Deeply honest. And I expect nothing less if his music is anything to go by.
i finished it today. i can't believe he survived all that.
Hard to believe he could even stand through the whole show knowing the story of just this day alone. Glad he’s still with us.
Barrett Martin is a beast on the drums~
Agree . He is a bad ass.
Ice Cold European Funhouse is maybe the most harrowing, funny, desperate, accurate, life affirming, and best written pages about dope addiction put to paper. It really demonstrates how resilient our spirits can be, even when crawling through a gutter for a taste of death. Sing Backwards and Weep is the best read I've had in a really long time. I didn't want it to end. Being in High School during the Seattle years, I never got into the Trees - or knew much about Lanegan - but through reading his book, I've discovered an enormous amount of great music I never knew existed. To be able to convey so much emotion with a voice is not easy to do - and Mark is just a hypnotizing singer and performer. It's all in there.
thank you for putting this into words, I couldn't agree more. I've read quite a few musician biographies but I'm especially impressed with this one
That chapter felt like trudging through 2 feet of broken glass on tranquilizers. Fuck, that was so brutal.
The audio book is awesome. It has extra impact hearing the tale told in his own voice. It’s what motivated me to search for a video of their German tv appearance and seeing now how awfully sick he looks really paints a full picture of the hell he was going through on that tour.
Before I read the book I always wondered why this performance was so...bad. I definitely saw that it was him at his sickest. Hearing him say what happened sent me into tears on more than one occasion. It's a miracle he didn't die over there. It's a shame, because the other Trees were on top of their game.
@jetcheneau5811 I actually think he sounds quite good. He's in tune and despite not having the power he usually had, he sounded pretty good.
RIP Mark Lanegan, Van Conner you'll be dearly missed but your talent will remain on our hearts forever through your songs
I highly recommend checking out Van's other band Solomon Grundy for anyone not familiar... He was an incredible song writer & guitarist in his own right. Such huge talent
Lenegan became homeless 2 years after this... nevertheless, made a full comeback. The legend lives.
It’s not like he didn’t have millionaire friends to turn to Seattle is full of them.
@@blazedout7835 Yup, Courtney Love, Duff Mckagen, and some producer in Texas put a lot of time and $$$ into his quitting. Most addicts don't have those comfy resources.
@@zippymufo9765So you can only stop doing drugs if you have rich friends?
@@Dwightpower88 Like everything in life, having money or friends with money makes everything easier. Lanegan couldn't afford to go to rehab, and the one Courtney Love paid to send him to is considered one of the best in the country. After he got out he was broke and owed taxes, and some guy in Texas gave him $50,000 to record some demos that weren't even released until 20 years later. And Duff Mckagan gave him a free place to live for several years.
So yeah.....most addicts don't get that kind of help to get back on their feet. If Langean was just a normal guy he would have gone to jail for tax avoidance and then been homeless when he got out.
Josh looks like he cut class to play this gig.

Mark Lanegan dopesick, in dirty clothes, smoking crack day and night, shooting dope in an artery and had his lungs almost burnt, doesn’t sleep, rough life all around… the most perfect voice (and always looked somewhat handsome throughout his life). Me healthy lifestyle, drug & alcohol free, practising singing every day… can’t have a stable voice range to save my life lol. This man was truly gifted. Nowhere in the book he mentioned a vocal coach or some sort of vocal routine… Gift from the heaven. 🙌🏾
Edit to add: He couldn’t even stay until the last notes at the end, we all knew what he couldn’t wait to do. It’s sad to see him in that state, but considering how he battled his addiction, it makes me happy to see that he lived a couple of decent years after.
He lived 25 good years after this. And created what most bands are lucky to do in 35 years.
@@jetcheneau5811right? I was gonna say; He had a couple good decades after this, not years. He even got to move to Ireland like Kurt wanted to do, shame he didn't have long enough to enjoy it... I just finished Sing backwards and weep, what a life he lived
I'm damn near crying watching this and realizing that both Mark and Van are no longer with us.
Mark's voice and singing style juxtaposed with the upbeat rock tempo was the magic sauce.
so glad mark lanegan is still around...
Same here he's fuckin awesome goin to see him when he comes to finland
Like x 1000
No doubt. Read his memoir...its hard to believe that of all the greats who have died from drugs...that Mark is the one who lived to tell the tale. He's my favorite living male vocalist...but he lived a hard life for sure. Glad he's healthy and putting out great music still.
After reading his book you realize at that time most thought he’d be a goner in the near future. Even he thought that
@@geekrockrats im listening to the audio book!
Josh looks so damn young.
The skeletal years. So glad Mark made it through it
not for the van bro the ske shape
..."skeletal years"...,,😃😆😆 ha! ha! ha!
@@rafaelcamacho2537 thick guitar player
@@_bloodshape_6103 The guitar player was eating all of Mark's food, that's why he's skeletal
R.I.P. Mark... your God like voice will be missed in person but live on in recording
Lanegan is truly an inspiration and his perseverance gave me the courage and perspective to pursue music myself after
Wow after listening to Mark read his memoir, I can see what was going on during this tour, crazy scary stuff
Glad he made it through.
The Trees were great. So underrated.
agree. I saw quite a few bands in early 90s including Nirvana. Screaming Trees were among the best I've seen. Buzz Factory is a masterpiece.
Unless you ask their frontman.
Hey I don't speak emoticons.
I think the singer was too Strung out to Really have any good memories associated with the Trees.
@@nohabloemojislosiento4930 He lived through it....surprisingly
Although I agree they have a lot of classic songs this concert sounds like a bunch of noise
Saw them the day after this in Paradiso Amsterdam, with Eels opening and a Ben Folds Five after party upstairs. Man...those were the times... Lanegan didn't say one word and left after an hour.
I would have too if I was going through what he was that day lol
@@scottcooneymusic6736 For real though 🤣
In the end.......................this band will get it's due. History now shows, they were as good as, and deserve to stand with AIC, SG, N, PJ. Paw should be there too ! Same with the Melvins, who are now a national treasure !
yup
Same thing with gruntruck And mudhoney
Such a beautiful voice. Rest easy.
All those years, listening to Screaming Trees and Mark Lanegan Band; even attending his shows and meeting him a couple of times...
I never knew much about him and after recently reading two of his books, I wish I HAD got to know more about him years ago, so that when I had met him - I'd cherished those moments a little bit more.
It was such a treat to see them back then. So glad Mark survived. Sing backwards and weep!
Your comment killed him and started Ukraine's invasion too. Thanks
Imagine!!!
It' d be a dream to see them again ...
Only once...
Nah they all hate each other
No chance. Read Lanegan’s book. There’s no way the Trees would reunite.
RIP buddy. Thanks for all the memories.
RIP both Mark Lanegan (1964-2022)
Van Conner (1967-2023)
WE LOVE THE SCREAMING TREES SO VERY MUCH
🤙🤙🤙🤙
Wow to think look what Josh Homme accomplished while the two brothers fell In The Fade.
Love that song
amazing how great he was here after listening to the backstory...
Another one gone. RIP, Mark Lanegan. Jeez, this century is terrible. 😭
Incredible watching this performance after reading Mark's book and knowing the hell he was putting himself through.
That's what brought me here too - just before the Amsterdam trip!
Yeah, same here, trawling through any footage relevant to the book.
Chris b. I liked the part in his book when he talks about touring with Alice in chains. Him an Layne using the same dirty rig for a month. He said they used the ruff end of a match box to keep the needle sharp!
Idk how he got threw that tour. Tough dude. When he’s healthy he’s a big dude. I wouldn’t mess with him period. I wish he would have got his hands on Liam. 🤬.
@@joshc4927 The story of them in the hotel room with the wretched chick who came in and drank the glass of water "containing the blood of three hard-core international junkies" made me laugh so hard my belly hurt and I had to pull the car over
best band.....everrrrrrrr! Love Forever
Barrett and Mark are brilliant
Barret Martin in an Absolute drummer.
I recently discovered this group and the amazing Mark. Yeah I was under a rock. I.thought he was beautiful and that voice! Very upset that I could have experienced the Screaming Trees live and missed out. So much love to Mark.
Gary Lee Conner!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha little baby Josh
Jose Suazo nice profile picture
BallZakc Nice profile picture
Baby Baby Duck
How fkn cool was he as a young bloke even
fuck man I sometimes forget how good are screaming trees.
who would have thought that he would out live.. wood. Cobain, Staley, Cornell
Especially when he had by far the worst drug addiction of all of them possibly excepting Staley.
Qué maravilla, gracias por subir esto hermano!! Saludos desde Argentina!
He did just enough of a shot to not be sick for the show but anyone who read his book knows the post show ordeal/nightmare he endured before finally scoring early the next morning. So glad he's clean. That seemed such a miserable existence and I won't pretend to not know that life, minus needles and rock stardom haha
I am just finishing it now…. God he was dopesick! Still performing. And yes Lee Connor acts like Jack Black in ‘School of Rock’🤦🏻😂
Yep, his book is the most honest testimony about being a "rock star"/drug addict.
@@risboturbide9396 I wouldn't call it "honest". Lanegan was a much shittier person and asshole bully than he admits in the book.
I couldn’t believe just how detailed he was about everything,he always seemed like such a private guy but let it all out in that book. It takes serious humility give the world such an unflinching account of the lowest points of your life. I just wish he was still here,it seemed like he had finally won and was on the other side of the darkness that had a grip on him. His music ensures he’ll live forever, legacy is the closest we can get to eternal life
😜
garry lee connor is a genius
RIP Mark
Love how Mark just walks off stage even at his own bands gigs, ha.
paynexkiller drug's are bad.
@@turdferguson3855 mmmkay
So this is where Maynard got it from huh???
After this show, he goes to Amsterdam in the equipment van, because he’s sick and desperate for heroin.
Yeah he did that with QOTSA also. Like I’m out!!🤘
Great band, most great music comes from pain chaos and twisted minds, just read Mark’s book glad he finally found peace, such a talent as they all were.
Someone needs to thank Courtenay Love for saving Mark's life.
@@zeroelliott nevermind...
Barrett Martin fucking crushing it
Gary Lee Conner is a monster of guitar..
No smartphones in the audience, pure music, old school is best school.
Thw way it should be, not missing this wonderful experience
Demri was dead and Layne was shacked up with Simon the crackhead at marks apartment. 2023 is crazy you can read a memoir and then look back through CZcams to the exact moments referenced in the book.
Drummer fr Mad Season!
Lenegans´voice and attitude really rules also in the 2020....
Absolutely
2021 baby.
2022 🤟😎🍻🔥🔥🔥
one of the few really good live acts on utube by the trees! thumbs up thnx for uploadin!
P.S.- Josh Homme loves playing Musical Chairs.
He's played with everyone.
Kinda like Dave Grohl - Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, NIN, among others.
True but this was his first true association with true relevance.
The boys from Ellensburg! They were so good! Rest easy Mark
That first chord! Great rawk tone.
Well that was cool! Thanks for the upload.
I came here after sideways in reverse audiobook, was unreal to listen to it read by Lanegan, what a fkn trip of a story.
Seen him many times. ONE OF THE GREATS!!
I seen them around this time or tour possibly. What an amazing band they were. I dont think ever got the fame they deserved but thats probably a good thing. Marks voice has always been one of my favorite in rock n roll.
Uma das melhores vosssssss
Fantastico live...gruppo grandioso che ho visto a Milano insieme agli Alice in Chains...indimenticabili!!!
che gruppi!
thanks a lot man
It almost seems like Mark was living a parallel life to Layne Staley at that time, only he made it out alive and Layne didn't.
Barrett rules
Came here from sing backwards and weep… amazing he shot up last bit of heroin during sound check and made it through this show !!!
amazing singer... that is all
This is a hard watch now
Love ya Mark xoxoxi
Stay well Mark! Can´t believe you made it throug that heroin nightmare. Thanks for your great music.
Great F××King Show!!
He was so thin here ! My god …
Didn’t know they went that far back. Cool to see.
I am still missing their sound and attitude in in the current music-market
Probably will never come back authentically. The only time we’d get this energy now is if it was contrived and forced by major labels to sell some shitty boyband
It's definitely still out there
I don't even know how Lanegan even performed this gig considering.
Ive read the book..I forget at this time how deep he was in use. I believe still using..he looks a little dopesick in this show..
Josh is so young lol!!
Né, cara de juvenil!
23 years
A volta deles!

Barrett Martin the most underrated drummer ever.
Rock history!!!
RIP
God this was a fucking band!!
Terrific
He was already a little dopesick right before this gig - and his tiny shot didn’t work wonders. But he still did a great job. Even with a tiny sickness, I don’t think I’d be able to go and tape a 30 min show… What happens afterwards is just crazy :) Loved that episode.
About a year after reading the book, I went to Amsterdam again. I don’t know the 90’s Amsterdam, but comparing to his writing, I’m sure it changed a lot. There are no more dealers around that statue, and actually it is very difficult to find drugs on the street. Police patrol, and simply tourist scammers who sell hashish instead of junk. Or maybe I didn’t know the right place to go.
But still, listening to his songs while walking those streets - meanwhile feeling a bit dopesick myself - kinda made me connect with him in a way. Dunno if that makes sense…
You’re missed dearly Mike, may your soul rest in peace 🙏🏾
Esto es oro
Thanks for uploading this concert!!!!
Screaming Trees fan in 2017 here!
Screaming trees fan here 2019
Love them
Grande los Screaming
Crazy to know what happened later that night to Mark
Do tell
Debby he describes it in his book. He pretty much hit rock bottom of his addiction. Can’t recommend the book enough!
I listened to the parts that are on yt Layne chapters plus beginning chapters up to 1995 1996. Thank you
Debby if you love his voice, you should get the audio book. I’m on my third run-through! Totally magnetic and soothing, his narration.
I have listened to the parts on ytube several times. You are correct it's very soothing. His voice is like a combination of honey&whiskey. Thanks for all suggestions. How long hours wise is the whole book?🤘😍
Rip read his book 📕 it’s 👍
I knew those dudes back then. Lanegan is right on all his assessments
Of course you did.
When the music was real.
William Scarbrough corny
Gospel plow and dime western pure high
Josh from Kyuss……how pumped is he here! 😮
Here to watch Josh. Amazing guitar player and singer. Never liked the Trees really, but Nearly lost you song
the leather pants...
Ele (Mark Lanegan) estaria irreconhecível nesse show, se não fosse sua potente voz! E os gordos irmãos Conner brilham, como se tudo estivesse bem...
Does any one else think the lead singer came to the gig straight from the tube station? He still has that standing straight penguin look about him. ...Great gig .
Much much more than just coming from the tune station my friend
He was half dead and would move even closer to death later that night
A dispetto di tutti gli aneddoti negativi su Lee Conner nelle memorie di Lanegan, il chitarrista mi sembra stiloso e con un gran groove.
Homme pre tattoos!!!! What a babe
I can see why Kurt Cobain was such a big fan I'm really enjoying this I discovered them later in life but sometimes things just need thier timing.
