  • If your mode button doesn't work in your MDX, this is most likely the issue. Easy fix to do yourself and save money from being screwed at the dealer
I bought one used off eBay but google " HONDA ACURA DRIVER AIR MIX MODE MOTOR"
    Part #: AW063700-8770

THANK YOU!!!☺ You're a saint! I'd been searching for this answer for months. Lots of stuff on You Tube about the blend motor (actually replaced that with no benefit) but I didn't even know about the existence of the mode motor until I took it to an Acura dealer for diagnosis. Based on your introduction, when I spoke to the service manager in Colorado Springs he should have known to say, "Oh!, that's the mode motor" (duh!). Instead, it cost me $300 for 2 hours of diagnosis and all they could recommend was replacing both blend and mode motors for more than $1300 but couldn't tell which it would be but "since they were in there" (not to mention there is no relationship to the service effort between the two), best to just replace them both. Well, at least I learned about the existence of something called the mode motor. So I went back to You Tube and finally found your relatively recent post. Ordered the part for about $70 with shipping and took me a half an hour to replace it and VOILA!, it worked. BTW, something I learned from my blend motor effort is that you don't need to deal with the actuator arms, just pop the cam off the old motor and pop it in place on the new.

Yeah I don’t understand how Acura can’t even diagnose their own cars properly! Glad I could hekp

THANK YOU! My MDX has the opposite problem, but I think the same root cause. My center vents do NOT blow, nor does the defroster; the outside vents and footwell vents blow like crazy, but it seems to be stuck on that setting. I'll get in there and try this.

Thank you for that video. You helped me solve a challenge where my First Generation 2006 Acura MDX would not turn on the defroster. I think it was related, but I would sometimes hear an inconsistent clicking noise as well. Using your video, I removed the climate control pivot arm mechanism. I took it apart and the wheel contact surface appeared dirty. I cleaned it up and then tested it. Note, the two left leads are the power source for which you can swap 12-volt polarity to see if spins right in either direction. All appeared in order. So I put the unit back in the car and everything appears to be working right.

Thank you for this. I didn't end up needing to replace the part, but it was very helpful. Turns out the white plastic part had popped off the motor so I just snapped it in place and good to go.

Thank you for sharing this. It was very helpful, and thanks for the link to the part. Searches kept sending me to the hot/cold vent door module instead of the correct part.

I think the part number you have in the description is wrong too. the one in your video ends with 8770, the same as mine, while the one in the description is 8700.

@@ButtersVlogs sure thing, thanks to you I was able to take out the actuator myself, mechanics were all nagging about it being too complicated so didn't wanna touch it.

@@ButtersVlogs yeah it’s the same part but on the 09 it’s actually located on the passenger side instead of the drivers side. It’s a pain to get out because I have to take out the entire glove compartment and the part is 150.00 at the Acura dealer I’m pissed
