This is an emotional song for ARMY. Jin is going to the mandatory military service this december and wil be away for 2 years. This is a for awhile goodbye song for us. The little girl ( probably 9 years which is the same age as ARMY) represents ARMY. He teaches us how to walk on without him for awhile. At last he comes back to us after. BTS and ARMY are the family

Jin is an astronaut crashed on Earth - as you can see in the teaser. The music video takes place 9 years later (the age of the girl, who represents the age of ARMY) but showing how Jin has taught the girl to ride a bike, been with her through so many memories. He's slightly awkward (e.g. the way he shakes the polaroid or how he runs in the middle of the road) since he's not from this planet. He dreams of going back into space (his whole room is filled with space related objects). The girl even drew him as a astronaut so she knows he's not from this planet. Once his spaceship is ready/going he gets dressed and says goodbye to the girl - gives her his helmet so she'll stay safe. On his way their there are so many visible stop signs and women bumping into him. The astronaut he sees looks like the "average"/stereotypical astronaut (probably signifying the rest stereotypical "idol", though Jin looks quite different from this). He simply sees his own reflection.
Once he arrives at the spaceship he shows no expression. The dive into his mind (through his eye) where we see purple universe (ARMY) meaning the memory and love with ARMY. It's like he finally realizes that he is already "home" with the girl. So he returns to his family.
...At least this is how I have interpret it.
I guess the song is about how he stumbled upon Earth (fell into this live as an idol/musician) almost by accident (he was studying to become an actor, but was discovered on a bus). And then he spent 9 years with the girl (ARMY) and realized he found his home and purpose wtih her (us). So they will grow up together. Even if he leaves for a short while he'll come back.
"Once more to the moon" as it says next to the crossword puzzle. His song "Moon" is filled with "The Little Prince" references - I'm not too familiar with the story, so I can't yet link the two.
""The Planet" is coming back" must also be a hidden reference that I still haven't figured out.
Fun fact: at 3:15 in your video it shows a drawing on the left to Jin in his suit, which is what he was wearing when he crashed (seen in the teaser). That is the same suit as worn in one of his chilldhood photos that he has shown us. There's also fish a the bottom (probably a nod to SuperTuna). There's also a hypothesis that it's a nod to the planet "Aurora" which is the only planet that didn't appear on their album from last year so Coldplayers and ARMY thinks it's coming. Aurora is a water planet. In "My Universe" BTS is standing on a planet filled with water everywhere = e.g. they might be on/from Aurora. So maybe the fish are a nod to Aurora. This is all theory of course, but we'll see.
The girl could of course also be the members.
The braille on his neck says "ARMY" and the braille hidden in the crossword says "For ARMY". There's also many hidden references to Coldplay and BTS (like the posters, albums etc.). And Chris Martin did a cameo as the tv journalist.
Wow. Great job! That's what i thought too. In the mv, jin is not from earth. But when he finally got the chance to go home, he chose to stay maybe because he found his home, his family here. So it's true that home is not a place but where your heart is.

The black squares in the crossword puzzle spell 'For ARMY" in braille and Jin also has "ARMY" in braille on his neck where he turns away from the space ship and sings "I love you" for the first time in the song. It's not just about family, it's about Found Family. The people that you meet that you develop such close bonds with that they are as close as family to you. BTS are each other's found family and Jin apparently considers ARMY a part of that found family, too.

This song was made for Army as a farewell before going to the Korean Army, he asked Chris Martin to do it with this purpose. Even the black cubes in the puzzle say "for army" in braille.
The girl is not his little sister, but us. I think she can represent BTS too, because all the memories he has during the MV we've already seen them with BTS members.
As you said, probably he wanted to tell us that he felt as an alien before Army (and BTS) made him feel he is at home with us.
The little girl represents ARMY, and Jin has always said we are his Universe, he is the Moon that is orbiting around ARMY (Earth), and when he is with us, he is home. Jin has a big brother, but he is the youngest in his family, he has no little sisters. Jin wrote this song with Coldplay, and he wrote it as a love letter to ARMY before he goes into the Military. He will be enlisting at the end of this month after he withdraws his deferment (all members have deferment until age 30), after his promotions are over.
This song touched my heart and I felt it with every part of my soul. Jin performed this song for the first and possibly last time (until after his service and he is back in 2025). He performed it in Argentina with Coldplay recently. Please watch the live performance. I absolutely love the friendship BTS and Coldplay have built and just wanted to reiterate how thankful I am to Chris and the band for the respect and love they have shown BTS since their first collab. It's really wholesome and even Chris knew about the military decision from a while back. Can't believe we have to do this type of goodbye 6 more times :')

Jin is the Astronaut. You can tell he is like an alien/astronaut because he doesn’t show emotion at the beginning but as he got to spend time with the girl (ARMY and BTS) he was able to learn about happiness and learn to express himself. So you see at the end when he realizes that these people (Army and BTS) are his home and family he smiles and is happy and decides to stay on earth.
storyline of the mv is a stranded alien chose to stay on earth than go back where he came from because he find earth as his home.

Jin is the alien who landed on earth and learned to love the little girl. He taught her and she taught him. The little girl as others have said represents Army (and also maybe BTS especially the younger members). He thought about going back on his spaceship but decided against it. Not only is it a fabulous song, but it’s a beautifully acted MV. If you notice Jin’s gestures (running etc) are deliberately a little awkward/stilted emphasising that he is an alien. But he has found his place through his relationship with the little girl.

One thing i haven't seen too many people mention is that Jin is the alien in the MV. That was his crashed spaceship and you can see at the beginning the area is barren, but when he goes back when the beam happens trees have grown in the area. So he's been stuck on Earth for quite a long time.
And as others mentioned children are often used to portray Army, and that's who the song is written for :) And he chose to stay with Army instead of taking the spaceship "home" as Army are now home to him.

To me Jin is the traveler aka the astronaut, his spaceship crashes on earth and he is stuck there. He then meets a little girl, who makes him feel not alone and human. Then his alien friends come for him and he decides to stay because he is happy and has found love.
It makes me so sad and happy at the same time, but the idea that he was lonely breaks my heart. And because of all their fame they probably feel like aliens.

I think it's amazing how the video works on at least three levels so that it doesn't matter what kind of prior information the viewer has -- the official sci-fi plot, a down-to-earth (or Earth, pun intended!) version where the sci-fi aspects are an extended metaphor, and the BTS-and-ARMY related symbolism that other commenters have explained.
The official storyline is that he's an actual alien, waiting for his people to find him and take him home but when the moment finally arrives, he realizes that the Earth people who took him in are his family now and Earth is his home. But it totally works as a metaphor, too -- Jin's character can be read as a human who *sees* himself as an alien, someone who feels he is not understood by those around him and not understanding them. He could be neurodivergent in some way (I feel that is very strongly coded that way but that is an interpretation that will vary from person to person), or obsessed by something like music or art in a way no one else around him is. He fantasizes about his people coming for him but like the literal alien Jin in the official story, human Jin realizes who his real people are.
Kudos to the entire team behind this video. It's like one of those short independent art films where you can argue for hours about whether any of it is really happening or if it's all in the characters head- - you point out that no one else sees the astronaut on the sidewalk, I maintain that Jin's bumping into real people, we both try to figure out the timeline of who has the helmet and bicycle when. Ah, it's like film analysis class all over again!

Love your interpretation and comments on the details in the production and vocals. Though the girl is supposed to portray ARMY, it absolutely can be applied to anyone you love, children, siblings, friends etc. Jin approached Chris about making a song to say goodbye for a little while to us. If you get time you should watch him perform this with Coldplay on tour. Chris gives an extremely beautiful and poignant speech about Jin and how the song came into existence right before they perform it 💜
The little girl in the video is just a neighbor girl, but she represent ARMY. Jin wrote to Chris Martin and asked to work on a song with him. He needed a song to say goodbye to ARMY for a little while and tell us how much he loves us before he leaves for the military. She is even riding a purple bike and wearing a purple bike helmet. Jin is an astronaut from another world that crash-landed on Earth and is stuck here for awhile. He finally gets the chance to go "home", but realizes that he already IS HOME; Home is where ARMY is. So he decides to stay. :)
There is a live version. He flew to Argentina to perform this for the first time with Coldplay at their concert. BigHit released an official video of the performance. There are also great fancams of Chris introducing Jin and explaining how the song came about.

Some other Easter eggs that we’ve learnt about since it’s release is the black shapes on the crossword is actually Braille for “For ARMY”. There’s also braille on his neck. Details are amazing. Will miss him and all of them when the time comes, but time will fly by ARMY 💜
Jin's an astronaut who landed on planet earth. The little girl represents ARMY. His spaceship was finally fixed and he was gonna leave but came back. The girl (ARMY) and rhe people he lives with are his family. He is representing himself leaving and coming back to ARMY. The scene where he's teaching her to ride the bike (teaching us [army] how to do well on our own when he leaves) and when he comes back (at the end of the MV you hear the bike bell) the little girl(ARMY) is outside, we never left!

Ah thank you so much Knox! I keep finding more details on every watch of this, it's amazing. I love when he is walking down the street and everyone is bumping into him, there's so many Stop signs behind him so I take it like signs that he's going the wrong way/making the wrong decision. Eventually he realises home is where the heart is, with ARMY. Very emotional song for us all.

Ok the girl represents Army & somewhat the rest of BTS... there are many "easter eggs" in this video! The guitar in the room, given to Jin by Chris. Poster of BTS & Coldplay in room. Im not sure why this is called the Astronaut...its more about an Alien. He crashed with the ship...made a new home on Earth....has to leave but gives protection & guidance before leaving but returns. He has Braille writing on his neck....it says ARMY!

Maybe called the Astronaut bc RM was an astronaut in Ampaman? Or just bc of Jin's love of all things moon and universe related. Astonauts are lonely in space, away from family, like jin will be in service. Or a nod to NASA who will be playing several of Jin's song in space soon!
Oh I can’t stop rewatching. I don’t think you get enough credit for going in blind to things like this and still making so many knowledge and insightful comments. It can be difficult because ARMY really love to theorise and find Easter eggs, plus there’s so much context. And it may look like some are being preachy but a lot of it just stems from our love and admiration for BTS and what they inspire of us as people. I hope you still enjoy these intricate and detailed music vids and songs, because you are genuinely brilliant at analysing them. I hope you can continue 💜

You know, Knox, when you said that this was set to the perspective of a brother to his sister, it got me thinking, what if this song was a letter to his families, BTS and his own personal family? He is going to go from being a big star to being a soldier, an alien world for him at this stage in his life. And your description at the end fits a lot of that as well.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to see a BTS reaction again!! I check every Monday haha. Oh this was wonderful. This song really hits me hard, for multiple reasons but I guess, as selfish as it sounds, I really wish they didn’t have to go. I understand it but it also makes me face things like change and uncertainty which I struggle with. But BTS have done so much for me and others over the years and they know ARMY will wait. I’m pretty sure the song is towards Army/BTS themselves. Showing how he’s seen us/them grow up and taught us/them things. Jin is the oldest and basically helped raise them as well as having to grow up himself. He was 20 when they debut and jk(the youngest) was 15.

I’ve got two younger brothers and they are my best friends. You adding that perspective of siblings in just added so many more levels to me, and wow, I just love your breakdowns Knox. On a first reaction to see a little girl outside his house whom he teaches to ride a bike and is proud of? Yea the natural response is going to be that’s his sister. You would need background information or to be told what the symbolism is unlike other videos/breakdowns where I can reach for it on a first reaction. This is not one of those in terms of the way it is set up

When I watched this mv for the first time I genuinely contemplated whether Jin was revealing his secret children to us 😂 Of course though, like with all BTS songs the lyrics are your own to interpret, and as always Knox you added value and knowledge with your analysis of the production, vocals and lyrics. That girl represents army and the last Jeep that jin went on to represents BTS (hyyh I'm not sure) he's teaching the girl with the purple helmet how to ride the bike also teaching armys to be on their own when he's gone for a little while he said this songs is for armys also it's like jin is from another planet he crash landed on earth and that girl(army) became his family when he was not accepted by other people who were running into him in that scene means there are a lot of people who didn't accept them but armys became his home and he decided to stay and not leave earth when his spaceship started also that girl is like 10 years that's also armys age mostly in BTS' MVs a lil girl represents armys and the tress grew from the first scene and those trees take 10 years to grow(10 years for BTS debut) and when the lyrics goes i love you it's written [for army] in Braille on his neck

Please watch the live performance with Coldplay and start with Chris Martin's intro - it's beautiful. Jin's live performances have always been lots more dynamic than the recorded mv's (even though this mv is absolutely beautiful and I watch it repeatedly); however in the live perf you can hear the subtle kick up each time he sings "There is no one else". Jin's singing has so much nuance, especially in the low to middle register where his distinctive vocal timbre is showcased. And the interaction with Chris and the other Coldplay guys is enough to make one reach for tissues.
“ I am the Moon, and ARMY is my Earth” - Jin said this in reference to his song Moon…. But this is how he thinks of Army. Army, is his family…
I love the hidden messages in Jin's gestures towards Army - the little girl - in this video. How he gave up his helmet for her so she would be protected. Also, how he was teaching her to ride a bike, pushing her forwards from behind, and cheering for her success even though she couldn't see that. Also, how the bell on the bike is Army calling him to play together some more, and Jin seems like that's exactly what he lives for. I love how Army is personified in the little girl - especially as it is a wordplay on "Oppa!" and Jin acts like an older brother towards Army. I also love how in the lyrics Army is like the universe, like millions of stars shining and guiding Jin. This reminds me of the visuals in We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal and the animated video of Zero O'Clock. The way Jin touched a ray of light, and it burst into particles of purple light seemed like a homage to those visuals. ARMY is a collective, but we unite in our love and relationship with BTS.

Gone for 18 months on a new journey. Alone but not really alone u know because army is everywhere! i love it. Did u see Coldplay live with Jin in cinemas? i went with my HS pal and an army moot on twt. it was fun. Jin slayed his 1st solo debut. Coldplay background vocals were sweet. The song has a Coldplay sound for sure. It's a love song to us. i am mush. Dude, Jin has a big brother, but he is the youngest in his family, he has no little sisters! The story of this MV is that Jin is an astronaut from outer world, and while traveling through the universe landed on Earth due to a broken spaceship. He was living on Earth waiting for his spaceship to be fixed so he can return to space. In the meantime he meets and creates a valuable relationship with the little girl (Army), who teaches him things, and in return, he helps Army to ride her bike (and be on her own). When his people finally come to get him on Earth, he excitedly runs and bicycles to the spaceship. Then, he realizes at the end that instead of returning to space, he wants to stay on Earth to be with his Army.💜

Jin is a alien in this mv who has lost his way and came to earth but he can't go back to his home because the spaceship is broken so he spends his time on earth hoping that one day someone will repair that spaceship and he will go back home until then he spends his time with a little girl ( Army) and made memories with her and one day he saw on the news that someone saw a mysterious light from that place he decides to leave earth and he gives is helmet to that girl ( its like telling army and members take care of yourself i hope you will be fine by yourself now ) and when he reaches the place to leave earth he realises that "This was his home all along" where he has people who love him and cherish him "WE ARE HIS HOME HIS FAMILY WHO BROUGHT LIGHT INTO HIS DRAKNESS" and he rushed back to that Little girl and hops on the first ride he could get to reach his newly founded home✨ you can see the smile of relief on his face in the last scene that means he has found his home and he is happy now and at last he fills FAMILY in crossword puzzle and smiles to the camera its like tell us that we are his family and he will come back to us because We are his home.

Also, the road scenes are reminicent of Coldplays Paradise movie video. Chris Martin is the news anchor. Jin's check/stripe suit is a replica of a suit he was photographed in in his childhood. Jin is reflecting on his childhood and new and old family. The child drawings were drawn by the child of the mv director. It shows the little girl (Army) and her parents with the astronaut (jin). There are other eggs....record player (V), glass flower bowl (Jimin), poster (bts & coldplay - my universe, bicycle (RM)......and the bicycle bell (signifying Army & BTS arestill there when he returns from militart service. ) Also, the helmet may represent military service....his military helmet.
