@@SagaJohanna I would invite you to visit us in the US, but you would be shocked at all the folks wearing their pajamas to the store, slippers, holey t-shirts, dirty, muddy, clothes/work boots. We just don't really care. Of course there are some parts of the US that differ. We're just so big you can't generalize. I've heard that in the SE, women (at least white women) must be all fancy and full makeup to go out, starting when they are girls. Maybe 10 years old? I don't know, I'm from Minnesota and Wisconsin. When I was a kid (I'm 58 now), some ladies would go out with rollers in their hair, and sometimes with a scarf over them but not always! I don't believe in always being dressed up, and I'm not bothered by seeing casual, sloppy clothes (even though my great-grandparents all came from Sweden). 😄 I try not to judge when someone is wearing their dirty bed slippers, even though I never would. I do wear casual or ripped/mended clothes, just never go that far. One thing is for sure, due to health codes, we can't go barefoot into a shop, restaurant, whatever. So slippers!

You are so right about the crap insulation in New Zealand houses. During the winter, when I lived in Christchurch, the house cooled down really fast after turning off the heating. It really wouldn't cost much more to build them well insulated. I also remember the documentary about students living in Dunedin. One could see their exhaled breath inside their houses.

40 years ago i visited Scandinavia with my parents, one thing i found fascinating when i looked at it in Sweden was "house moss" specifically the use of it between the glass in double glazed windows..
it soaked up any condensation, although i think it was mainly used in the older houses which it was also used between the wooden cladding on the outside...

I'm also a Swede who married a Kiwi, but I grew up mostly in Australia.
I agree with the gender equality in Sweden. The difference was even more noticeable when my parents first visited Australia 40 years ago. My parents visited a pub in Sydney and the staff made it clear that they should move to the 'ladies bar' as it wasn't appropriate for my mother to be in the pub. When we moved over, and were living in Queensland, the women on our street made my mother aware they were upset that she mowed the lawn, as that was a man's job according to them. I think NZ and Australian society is better now, but still have further to go, as far as gender equality.
I think people in NZ and Australia are generally more laid back and friendlier. Swedes are more uptight and reserved in public, more concerned with behaving properly and following rules. Although when Swedes travel they have a reputation of letting their hair down.
Our experience with Swedes speaking English has been the opposite. We found that as soon as anyone got a whiff of us speaking English, they would launch into English. To the point where it was almost annoying.
Great channel Saga, I enjoy your videos.
