Uncle Peter coming in hot at 26:12 “ how many times have I told you kids”🤣🤣
Peter, you should just strap a Go Pro camera to your head and film your day. It’s so peaceful to see your work and hear your voice, I could watch this stuff for hours. Thanks for all you do!!
I reckon larches are the best trees for bonsai beginners, they grow rapidly and look great...
You give me many ideas and, really, a lot more courage to train my plants. Thank you for all you do sir.
Too true. Thanks Mr. Peter Chan!!!!!
that's why i like him.
one off the best parson i ever seen sir always cool💝
Thank you Peter for continuing to share videos during the pandemic. They are always a highlight to the day... Plus, these starter videos give me new tree projects to try to keep busy during all this free time.
I was truly amazed how you do the shaping, with this time of pandemic it is worth watching you. Thanks for your time!!!
Yesss, another long video ☺️
I think the self videoing worked really well. With that background I could see clearly what you were doing and how the shape of the tree changed. I also liked that you filmed the details when explaining what you were going to do before that. Great video and again nice trees. ☺️👍
agreed! I like the self-shot videos much better, actually. More stable. Less distracting camera movement.
It is fascinating watching you walk through the decision making process! Thank you for taking the time to show us so many different species and styles!!
Peter you did a good job self videoing, thank you, these videos are very helpful
Love the shape of that larch...more larch videos please.Great video
Peter your commitment to educating the newbie and us old timers is outstanding with your self filming, i love it. You have more energy than myself and i'm only 67 myself. Your grandchildren's joyful noise ( i presume ) in the background is so enlightening. Thanks for all your years of self taught knowledge. By the # of subs the rest of the world agrees. You make it fun, enjoyable, easy to understand and confidence building to both ends of the experience level. Keep them coming as long as you can. And don't worry about any " critiques " of the quality of filming,,, you're doing a bang up job. With much respect, Steve, U.S.A..
Thank you Steve for your kind feedback - if you are enjoying the videos then I feel I have done something useful.
Wow, these trees were transformed into beauty by the master.
Once you get the hang of keeping those bottom branches alive, larch can be very rewarding subjects. In prebonsai I like to let the main leader run to thicken the trunk, but cut the side branches of it down to 2 buds so they don't shade the bottom. Let the bottom branches run until they're thick enough. If you let those lower branches and buds die they are pretty useless since they don't back bud. Also had good success ground growing by bending the trunk parallel to the ground
Woohoo ... 7 more videos, liking that last tree Peter worked on. Thx for sharing Peter, Stay safe to all and can't wait for the next one..cheers
thank you Peter, larches are beautiful

You are an amazing artist, Peter! Cheers, Dick from Vancouver.
love that final tree!
Thanks peter 🙏🏾
I reckon it would be kinda cool to have a head cam on our friend Mr Chan, so that we can really get a feel for what hes doing and how the bonsai looks from his perspective! Been living off these videos the past few weeks, keep them coming! :)
I bought a chest harness for my iPhone recently but it is useless !! Pictures are not usable.
@@peterchan3100 yea it can be a bit hit or miss sometimes! Anyway, the videos are great as they are so not to worry :)

Namste! peter sir 🙏
I just did that yesterday!
Now I wish I had waited
P.s. I bought the tree from herons bonsai
Larch series sounds Very good 👍
If you find any old wood back budding i would like to see it 🤔
My 40 year old Larch is looking Great this year after a slow start.
Hi Peter. Thank you for the video. Why is the two branch principle important?
Would love to hear about how you propagate your larches 😊
Great video which I am watching again as I am looking to begin some work on a few European Larches. I was wondering when would be the best time to air layer a Larch?
Wonderful video, Peter.
I'm a beginner in bonsai and larches are trees I love in nature and are hardy enough to survive I hope our Canadian winter on my NE balcony with rather harsh winds.Canada
Your larches with S curves are beautiful and the suggestions you've given are extremely helpful. Stirring a pot, indeed!
I'm drawn to the grace and beauty of S curves and I've been reading that one can start by contemplating what the tree itself wants to do. Since tamaracks in nature usually grow quite straight and you've used curves, how do I reconcile that seeming conflict. Can you give a little guidance to a novice on this?
Can't wait to watch more. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
If possible, more info on larches would be amazing, I have a few untrained Western Larches.
Really praise your utmost sincere n dedication work 👍👍👍👌👌.At the same time I want to know that can we make fruit plant like orange, lemon etc to bonsai tree n how we can stop the growth upward of plant, plz guide me.
Do you have a video of some tree from star and grow by the years? Congratulations for you Job.
Crazy. Just when I bought a little Larch tree...
Hi,
what kind of larch is that in the video ?
thanks for all of these great educational videos !
regards Thomas
@herons when is the best time for hard pruning of larches?
My first bonsai will be a japanese larch and i will sow the seeds next winter because i need to save money. I already liked bonsai but you made me serious about them.
Hi Peter, what specific variety of larch do you sell in your nursery? thanks
Can you do this with a 1 1/2 year old seedling?
Peter, I have a question about wiring. I have a couple trees that I wired about 3 months ago and noticed that the tree was already outgrowing it. The wire was starting to dig into the branches from growth. One is a thuja occidentalis and the other is a quercus alba. The branches stayed in place when I removed the wire but I hadn't planned on removing it this early.
Was I doing something wrong with wiring or am I applying too much fertilizer and pushing them to grow too fast? Or could it be something else?
Sir, can we make grow larch from cutting?
Mr. Chan. were those the grandchildren ? For them the garden must be magical. We live in Pasadena, Ca. when I was a child my grand parents grew roses of all kinds for the Tournament of Roses. Grandmother placed 18" gnomes around the gardens, they always weirded me out.
When is the best time of year to do wiring on these japanese larches?
Lovely video.
Is there any way to promote Lycan grow on indoor trees ( for that more ancient look ) ?
Maybe try putting them outdoors when it's warm enough
Question.... how many times a year do you trim your bonsai? or is it just once a year? and when would the best time be to do it? thank you
Hi Peter, any idea when the nursery will re-open as per the new rules for garden centres?
By appointment only if there is something specific you wish to buy - we will review in 3 weeks again.
Lol I have been pronouncing this as lar-k my whole life, I guess because my parents did. I get confused around here because there is a variety of cedar that looks just like these that pop up everywhere but it dosent drop its needles. I wonder if they can be treated the same?
How old is The last tree I wonder ?
Hey Peter, can you plant a finished bonsai in the field that you bought so that it grows more. And if you can what is the process to do this? Thank you!!
If you plant. a finished bonsai in the field - it will lose its shape and refinement because it will become too vigorous. Planting in the field is done mainly to thicken the trunk
Could you do a vid on common problems with bonsai trees and how to fix them? 😀
That is a tall order - where do you start ?
Maybe if you placed the camera on a small tri-pod on the bench, you may get a good side-angle of your hands, for self camera-ing. :)
Is it not too late in the year to wire larch? I've found them to react badly to late wiring
Best not to leave wire on during the winter - if you do then protect from frost. I find that branches with wire on them in winter tend to die.
🤗
I have watched videos on air layering, what is the best time of year to do this ?
Now if you live in Europe or N America
@@peterchan3100 Thanks Peter. I love your videos. I am looking at all our native trees in Canada. We have very lovely American Beech and Hornbeams with beautiful bark.
Hello,Peter chan can I use lead wire for wire my trees? So what wire type is good for bonsai
i wouldn't use lead as one it is too soft and pliable and two lead is poisenous. Best wires for bonsai are out of copper (harder to bend, but you can use thinner wire) or aluminium (easier to bend, but it has to be thicker to bend branches)
Can be poisonous for you - lead poisoning.
Sensei, were all of your wire choices today copper?
I tend to use mainly Aluminium wire
is the Larch winter hardy ?
yes
Have you done a cypress?
Botanical name please
