I agree with your main argument; developers should be making the game they wanted to make rather than the game they think people want.
Small feedback: the title of the series seems like a statement, you might want to consider adding a question mark after it.

I loved the demo (Infinity) and am trying to fall in love with the current EA version. I find that the difficulty ramped up mercilessly; I can barely get through 30 minutes whereas on the demo I would go for hours and have to shut it off. I think the visuals, sounds, and controls are spot on.
I agree with you, game looks like it has no soul, no true identity of its own, just another generic action roguelite, except boringly dull. I even recognised a lot of the store bought assets they used.
Ive played this for 4 or 5 hours and It feels like a mix of RoR 2 and soulstone survivors aesthetic/music.
I think its good and didnt know about all the beta branches, looking forward to unlocking all the classes
I agree on the random limititedness, its reverse engineered and regurgiatated as all hell, i suppose they wanted to get closer to the meta maybe? who knows.

It seems unfair to make your whole review about what you did, but I agree with your point anyway, it is uninspiring.
Regardless, I enjoy it for it's proximity to risk of rain, and the isometric perspective and its consequences are good enough to shake that up enough to be distinct.
Well said, but I think he makes a valid point. They've basically remade RoR with little innovation. I feel like if this is a game you're interested in, you might as well just play RoR which looks much better. If you've already played RoR then you've basically already played this too. I'm also glad to have reviewers that are this critical; there are so many games that are worth playing, so a game better offer something of substance if the devs want players to buy it over another title. I definitely see that this game has potential, but they'll need to find their own niche; as of now, it seems kinda bland.
i think them taking the whole unique aspect about defending the gate is a big L for me. played the earlier builds and enjoyed them. but knowing now that it has been removed makes me feel that they have removed the only unique thing about the game. without that, what is actually unique about this game anymore. unless they add it back, it's a hard pass for me now. sad times because i was actually hyped for this, but not anymore.

To be fair they have to keep the game afloat. There's so many games that decided to do their own thing and became really good games, but it wasn't well received financially. Omega strikers, pvz heroes, clash mini, kurtzpel and many more tried to do their own thing, and what happened is that they became great games, but bad money-makers. To be fair kurtzpel crashed and burned because of the maintainance they were doing themselves but there really are great games out there only supported by word of mouth and not by wallets, and just died because of it.
