    Yet another outstanding video Andrew. Pretty much my neck of the woods..as I am a little further up the coast past Roseberry Topping. You are the master of camping minimals and essentials. My budget does not stretch to Rab gear..more like 1.8kg army surplus Arctic bag and bivi..but it gets the job done. Thermals and spare socks is always a good rule of thumb ! Keep 'em coming and looking forward to your Spring and Summer outings. Cheers.

    What shelter is that, please?
    I use Tyvek as a ground cover as it breathes as well as being waterproof & very lightweight - but it’s main advantage is that it’s not as slippery as plastic plus you can pop it in the washing machine which also makes it softer.

    That bag and mat combo look interesting Andy but i have got a funny feeling that without the Kloke bivy bag it wasn't ideal in these current temps but looking forward to hearing your views. I used the ThermArest version of a similar type of system( Questar 20 -6 bag) at the moment and thats got those matt strap things on too but it won't work with my X Therm because that mat is too wide and this weekend i took the Uberlight mat out but ended up taking the mat straps off because they attach to the Sleeping bag with these tiny stiff plastic things that you have to pass through some loops and i was paranoid that they might penetrate the Uberlight with the martial being so thin . I love the Questar and ThermArest combo and i am warm enough down to zero degrees just with my HH lifa thermals on but Saturday night on top of the mounds next to Alport Castles with the Uberlight and a reflective matt beneath just wasn't cutting it and i ended up putting my Rab down trousers , Rab Booties, PHD Vest, Mountain Hardware Ghost whisperer jacket and even then i was only just ok ....X Therm is coming back out next weekend and i am storing the uberlight until summer.

    • @AndrewBeavers
      @AndrewBeavers  Před rokem +1

      It's a great little set up Olan & the bag itself was quite warm at 900fp & rated to zero..id only put the bivvy over due to some drizzle blowing under the tarp at one point but i dropped the beak of the cricket down too which minimized that..that set up with the straps on the bag only fits that size mat the regular which is on the small side for me,it wouldnt fit on my LW thermarest..ive been back down to the guys at Rab with feedback on the system & are taking on board what ive had to say about it..the version that will be going on sale will be coming my way again at some point so looking forward to that..

    • @Olan...
      @Olan... Před rokem

      @@AndrewBeaversInteresting..... I will keep my eyes open for that when it comes out and no doubt find some excuse to tell myself that "I really really need it ".........if the coin collection isn't going on beer and fags its much better spent on good gear and i am sure when its all put on eBay when i am gone there will be enough cash left over to chuck me in a skip and get me carted off to the tip. I was thinking that these type of bags should have different size sleeping mat attachment straps available so we can buy the ones for whatever width mat we use. I am only 5'10" but i like a wide and long matt so i am not always having to fidget about when i turn over during the night . I dont get on with quilts but i do like my Thermarest Questar with the way the down is distributed so that the majority is in the places where you need it most and minimal amounts beneath you. Its much lighter than the 600 bags i have and performs the same.
