That board is exactly 6" tall. I found it in a furniture store called Nadeau. When I saw it, I had to have it. At the time, I owned a commercial woodworking company. Coulda made it, but never had the idea myself. I still feel kinda stupid.

If planted in the garden the stem attachment to the main plant should come off with a simple push indicating the fruit is ripe. If purchasing in store look for size, a large yellow spot, symmetry, unblemished, good reverberation on tapping, and see if the stem was cut or more like it was plucked off.

That has to be the most asinine way I've ever seen anyone cut a water melon. The skin peal was fine, the square chunks was a flop.
That's why everything I do is second rate. The shape of the chunks does make a difference in how it tastes and appeals to each of us. What shape do you like best? 'Cuz you're most likely right!!
