The Yanks and Red Sox almost traded Joe DiMaggio for Ted Williams. Luckily, the GMs sobered up and canceled the deal.

I believe this trade was supposed to take place in 1946 or thereabouts. Actually I heard that this was a done deal but the dealbreaker was at the last minute, the Red Sox wanted a young Yogi Berra to be thrown in the deal but the Yankees wasn’t having it.
