  • Legendary Australian singer Frank Ifield, who played a pivotal role in The Beatles' early career, has passed away at the age of 86. Ifield died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night, as announced by his friend Glenn A. Baker.
Growing up in Dural, Sydney, Ifield developed a love for country music and yodelling. By 13, he had taught himself guitar and begun writing songs. By 19, he had released 44 records, becoming the top recording artist in Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania.
In 1959, Ifield moved to London, achieving international fame with four UK number-one hits: "I Remember You," "Lovesick Blues," "The Wayward Wind," and "Confessin’ That I Love You." During this time, The Beatles opened for him, gaining exposure to his audience.
Ifield's career highlights include performing for Queen Elizabeth II at the 1965 Royal Variety Show, starring in *Up Jumped a Swagman*, and receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009. He is survived by his wife Carole Wood and two children from his previous marriage to Gillian Bowden.

My very first LP was the one with "I remember you" on it. I had my parents buy it for me as a Christmas present.
