      The ship was in the Sol System but up or down from the plain of the planets. There's not much there, so no reason to patrol it. With a Ion or Plasma Drive, assisted by gravity, travelling at lets say 2G acceleration, you can get from Mars to Earth in about 3-4 days. So if the ship was in a area that's not patrolled, it should reach Earth quickly.

      We know Xenomorphs acquire genetic characteristics from the hosts, perhaps there's a genetic imprint of the xenomorph left in the host's DNA. Alternatively when Ripley died in that blast furnace hers and the Xenomorph's DNA were smeared together so when they retrieved the DNA they got both. They had to clone her eight times to get enough pure Alien Queen DNA, and even then they could only get Ripley by combining the DNA of both which is why Ripley is now part Xenomorph. i always found it weird that they have such huge empty ships in alien movies. it makes sense in Alien because its a refinery/transport ship and basically a flying factory complex with a cockpit. In Aliens it doesnt make sense that they just send a officer, a squad of soliders and 2 pilots. Seems like the ship itself had no crew whatsoever. Same in Alien 4. a huge ship with a Crew of barely 50. I guess the big layrinthian ships are part of the "haunted house in space" theme

    • @Nalothisal
      @Nalothisal Před 2 lety +3

      In aliens it was implied they had a rough drop that took out a significant portion of their full company, so two squads was what they had and they won the lotto to go and investigate the colony blackout. Granted the USCM didn't really have any reason to suspect there was going to be anything much other than a downed transmitter on the planet given that it was, "A rock, no indigenous life."

    • @AParticularlyConcernedCitizen
      @AParticularlyConcernedCitizen Před rokem +1

      The crew is most likely there, but there's nothing they can actually do to influence the events of the movie, so including them would literally just be, "Yes this spaceship has people running it," Plus, shipboard AI are a thing, so they might not need to have a standing crew and can just use the marine detachment onboard to perform daily tasks. It's also just idling in orbit for the duration of the film, so it wouldn't necessarily require a lot of monitoring.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 Před rokem +2

      The Nostromo wasn't part of the refinery. It was just towing it. The ship they landed on the planet was the entire Nostromo, the huge mass left in orbit was the refinery. As far as the Sulaco and the Auriga, they were designed to be completely autonomous with no flight crew required. The computers were running the show. That's why Bishop needed a satellite transmitter so he could contact the ship's AI and tell it to launch the second drop ship.

      The Sulaco was also fully operated by an ai capable of creating and executing it's own missions according to Company directives. The Company (Weyland-Yutani) used these vessels for many purposes including colonial defence, resupply and full on space battles. Yes, the Company had quite a few enemies and the Sulaco alone spent many centuries doing all kinds of things. They (deep space vessels) are larger and more capable than it looks like it needs to be because they truly don't know what they'll find.
