This was the first song I heard from this timeless album. I was living in L.A. at the time, and KNAC was one of the TWO radio stations in America that would actually play Metallica. My car stereo was constantly alternating between five great stations on the FM dial (which is four more than I have now).
I was stuck in traffic one afternoon, and James Hetfield was on the radio, doing a live interview. He was talking about this new album that would be coming out soon, their plans for their next tour where they'd be opening for Ozzy Osbourne, and generally what was going on with the band (and talking smack about Lars, who hadn't shown up yet). During the interview they played "Sanitarium", "Master Of Puppets", "Orion" and "Damage, Inc". A couple of months later I was one of the guys lined up at Tower Records for the album's midnight release.
Tower Records and KNAC are both long gone, and I haven't seen Los Angeles in 25 years - but you've brought back a great time in my life. Right now in my mind I'm in a green 1970 Chevy van, heading East on the 91 coming up on Bellflower Blvd, and once again hearing this awesome music for the first time. Thank you so much for taking me back to a wonderful place and time, and taking me along as you ladies experience this music for the first time yourselves. Your journey into the music of my past means more to me than you can possibly know. Thank you so much for every memory.

I was a young man and shared a house with 4 other guys." Thats what you do when your young." I got this album and played it for them and they hated it! Four years later they were all wearing Metallica tee shirts. I told them that this band was going to be huge and they called me stupid. What ya got to say now boys? I told ya.

I agree with others here, its GREAT to see the younger generation getting into metal. Being 50 yrs old I'd like to pass along I was lucky to see Metallica twice in 1986 when they opened for Ozzy and this album was brand new! At the first show the crowd on the main floor broke the barricade down and they stopped the show to fix it, James said " You MF'ers in Detroit are F'n crazy!!!" I saw them total of 7 times from 1986-1992.
They have soooooo much material it's not even funny, especially the first 4 albums!!

In a country that is pretty much dominated in the sounds of Lil Boy and Lil Gurl Pop Groups, today's version of Country, Hip-Hop, Rap, and Tractor Rap. It brings a smile to me, and friends faces, to see some younger music fans enjoy, rock, and metal. You two are wonderful! Your reactions are extraordinary, and uplifting. I would like to meet your Pop, and shake his hand, for opening you two up to the awesome world of rock and metal. There are two bands, that I'd really think you will like.
Scorpions: The international anthem "Rock You Like a Hurricane". The anti-war ballad "Winds of Change"....among others.
And..Queensryche. They are different band now, but in the 90's, they were on top of the game with lead singer Geoff Tate, and guitarist Chris DeGarmo. Geoff had ONE of the greatest voices in the world of rock. Check out songs like "Take Hold of the Flame" (Live). "Eyes of a Stranger" and the ballad "Silent Lucidity". I have a strong feeling you will not be disappointed. You two have great day, and hope you enjoy the weekend. Wishing you, and yours nothing but the best!

This song is about life in a mental institution, where you're locked in your room most of the time. Based on the movie/book, "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"

Just listen to the whole album in one sitting while you're doing something. I did while doing homework as a kid.

It is called, Sanctuary Amongst the Stars. This is the first of a series. It's been over 6 years in the writing process and I found an actual publisher who is very particular of what they choose to put their name on. So you KNOW it's good! Haha 😄
But aside from the story itself, there is this amazing music that goes along with it! Which I have put together these Soundtrack videos on my channel. Come check it out, you awesome little music lovers!! 😀😇

Thanks for reacting to the studio version of this song. Metallica live is good if you already know the song, but for a first listen studio versions are usually best.

off topic, but you two should check out *Alice in Chains.* Don’t Follow, Down in a Hole, Frogs, Shame In You, Rain When I Die, Would?, & countless others. Their discography is utter perfection.

Nobody talk about the 1996 era and after of Metallica Era. Yes i know that is not as good as their 5 first albums but for me Fuel of Reload is simply amazing , fast , technic and melodic and also fun to sing !

my other choice with another band would be the song Dethrone Tyranny by Gammaray it's very explicit about our covid era and chaos . The lyrics are very sharp and ahead of their time. (just a little) It gives a good shiver down the spine of how true is this song in current times . Thanks to consider my request :) it is Power Metal band with former helloween Guitarist and Great singer Kai hansen !
