  • Actually, this footage is from mid-April 1995 showing snow scenes on the Arizona Divide west of Flagstaff and Raton Pass in New Mexico/Colorado. This was when Warbonnets were red and said Santa Fe and freights still ran on the old main line over Raton Pass.

Nice video. I just stumbled on it. I’m a retired locomotive engineer out of the San Francisco Bay Area

This is really cool, freezing in fact. Good work on the intro from the sound effects department. Sets the scene. Nice to see all that Red and Silver.

Thanks for sharing the video, this brought back old memories of rail fanning the Santa Fe back in the early 90's.

Everything was so much better in the 90s.. trains were more interesting, airlines were more interesting ...

Trains were louder and would shake everything, planes were more noisy and dirty.

Four axle engines on priority intermodal trains on Santa Fe? ATSF was a pro on using four axles on its high speed trains, but now BNSF all but uses four axles for local freights.

That's my kind of video! I saw many B40-8Ws that I see on Galesburg-Chicago local but most are orange now. Thanks for this one!

I honestly don't know what BNSF is thinking by giving up a decent back-up route for high-priority trains in the event of a derailment like the one that happened a few weeks ago. Maintaining Raton Pass and having maybe 1-2 trains operate to/from Denver (it's the shorter route) seems a lot more cost-effective than putting a "parking plan" in place for days on end to have trains sit around.

NSHammerhead the route is maintained at Class 4 and operates as a back up route.

Much like Tennessee Pass, Raton features a 3% hill which can cause runaways if engineers are not careful during the decent.

7:21 nice catch of an F45 that was sold to Morrison-Knudsen! I'm surprised it was on an ATSF train!
