what I love is that this band has an absolute presence on the stage, commanding, and they are totally non-pretentious. no crazy get ups, all just in black, casual attire, but they sound more evil and better than 90% of death metal bands.
Pretty ridiculous take in my opinion. If a band chooses to add a theatrical dimension to their performance has nothing to do with their validity of their music.

When I saw this video and saw the ADHD-like guitarist, I suddenly remembered. It was immolation. I was front row and he almost hit me in the eye while picking.
Such a crafty music even though Immolatuon doesn't identify as tech death band but those drum lines are absolutely insane and extremely difficult to be performed with such fluency

As good as Immolation is on record, and they are amazing on record, they are absolutely the very definition of a live band. I've seen them live 5-6 times over the last 25 years and every time I forget how amazing they are until they take the stage. Some bands are good live. Some bands are great live. Immolation is a step above those 2 tiers. They will leave your jaw on the floor.

They're very humble artists, I've never heard them claim to be technical but they definitely have some wildly complex arrangements

Very few pure death metal bands that I enjoy. I like thrash/death, blackened/death, etc. but man, Immolation is pretty damn incredible.
