    It's just occurred to me that your stripping and polishing techniques have come up with a whole new class of blade finish - I like to call it "Liquid Steel"! That's yours, free of charge. Enjoy! Steel Eagle is the best example so far.

    Hey Chris on the eagle and larger blades you can bury the tip in the log and move the feather stick to make curls. You can make curls really fast like that. Great job on the mods and bbob 2

    How to make the perfect Knife tester: take two phone books and shuffle the pages together like on mythbusters, then wrap the shuffled books in a layer of duct tape lengthwise, and a second layer across the width, with the whole unit enclosed in tape, you may now test your knife against the block

    I have the version of the Steel Eagle with the saw on the spine, the 107C. While I do like having the saw, because it actually does work, the 107E is so much prettier!

    oh hey.....i did this once for a friend's sheath and he loves it. I thought you might like to try it - Next trip out to the lumber store, ask them if you can have some of the steel banding they cut off the blocks of 2x4's. The banding is spring steel and flexes very well. Take it and insert it into the nylon retention straps. When you pop the snap or velcro, the spring strap "snaps open" and holds it there until you close them.

      Dont remove the black finish. It's to keep the knife from rusting.

  • @civedm
    @civedm Před 9 lety +2

    Brody had a 107C in the movie Predators. The black finish on these tyoe of knives is there for a reason. The Steel Eagle 107 is made entirely of 1095 steel which is a high carbon steel. The high carbon is great for holding an extemely sharp edge through a ton of punishing tasks but, it rusts like hell. The black finish you removed helps prevent the knife from rusting. So you basically took a great survival knife and turned it into a pretty backyard knife. Awesome.

    • @treyolson8931
      @treyolson8931 Před 9 lety +1

      CIV EDM you can prevent rust pretty easily if you know what your doing and i believe he lives in an area where its not a huge issue

    • @civedm
      @civedm Před 9 lety

      trey olson Well i dont see a point in removing the coating merely for looks. Its there for a reason.

    • @treyolson8931
      @treyolson8931 Před 9 lety

      a lot of people dislike that every knife made now days is a "tactical" whatever the fuck

    • @civedm
      @civedm Před 9 lety +1

      trey olson True but the coating has nothing to do with the tactical mumbo jumbo. Its there to help keep a majority of the blade from rusting, when in the shit, without having to put in an extra effort to keep that from happening. The whole "tactical" bs means nothing to me. I pay mind to it shape, weight, size, material, features, etc. Thats how you buy a knife.

    • @treyolson8931
      @treyolson8931 Před 9 lety +1

      id have to disagree the coating has alot to do with calling something tactical the same way if something is green its called a "zombie" blade there are plenty of better coatings and tops offers a couple of them on different knives but honestly if you have a high polish on your knife like him and you dry it off after use like you should even if there is coating then rust shouldnt be a problem unless you live somewhere where it is damp a lot

    Hey Chris... You are often taking about shock-cording your knife handles for control.
    I'm very interested in this, although I'm not sure how to go about it all. I usually just put a piece of 550 cord on my handles. Is there an advantage to shock-cord? Perhaps, in your time, you might can do a video about shock-cording the knife handles? ... Purpose of shock-cording vs. para-cord, which shock-cord materials you favor, and procedures you use? That would be a great! Thanks

    • @live2hunt388
      @live2hunt388 Před 9 lety +1

      The shock cord has an elasticity to it where paracord doesn't (as much). Shock cord, in my opinion, works a lot better for use as a knife, axe, etc. lanyard because of the tension it produces thereby keeping your hand, for all intents and purposes, "locked in" to the handle of the blade. And, if you haven't used either paracord or shock cord on your knives lanyard holes before, you will amazed at the added control you will have witj your blade (tool, hatchet, tomahawk, etc.) Hole that helps.

And I know this might be like an apples vs. oranges question. How would Becky compair to the TOPS Steel eagle. You can't not have a 9. But i think the TOPS S.E. Just might put Becky in her place. Or is the difference nominal especially when compaired to the price point? And don't worry mums the word. Because I know how some of those knuckle heads at the place we write are. It's not a waste if it wasn't a "good" coating to begin with. Also it is totally possible for him to change his mind down the road and recoat them with Duracoat or Saracoat if he wishes.

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  Před 10 lety +6

      Key word here: "Durable". 99% of factory coatings are not durable. They are there to shortcut production. Polishing takes time. Black stuff is only worth having if you don't put your blades through wood. If you do, it'll rub and scrape off and look like shit. That Discord Machete actually had splinters embedded in the black coating. I do not see the point in it. It's just faster and easier for companies to coat a knife then finish the job.

    PREDATORS!! The video gets a thumbs up just for the predators comment. I've been a Predator fan boy sense I was about 8 years old. Fuck the knives I'm off to re watch the franchise.

    I like your video's but it seems you are making too many video's on just knives.
    I would like to see more survival gear and surviving out in the woods, mountains ETC.

      That's because it's primarily a gear review channel. The other stuff comes when it's convenient. Not going to be much field stuff in June as I'm preparing to move. LOTS in July/August.

      Plus, people need to let go of the "CZcams as Survivorman" fantasy. No matter how it was done, it wouldn't be believed. And I've detailed many times why it is way harder to do then people think. The only real way to do it is to have a completely independent film crew, and how many youtubers can pull that off? I can barely manage camp if I'm trying to set up videos.
      As for knives.... knives have the most varied options of any survival gear category. Knives are the #1 most important item in said kit, and knives get more video views then any other part.
      There are filters, hammocks, and other stuff coming up. I do what's easiest in the limited time I have this month and I'm sitting on a pile of knives and flashlights and stuff that have to be reviewed.

    being me, im leary of trusting anyone doing bushcraft tasks or reviews of outdoor equipment that wears oaklys, underarmor and flashy t-shirts. Not only that but I haven't seen you max testing huge blades or brands you seem to prefer to any test my mora black can't do. plus you don't seem to field test. make a shelter, fire, anything. who cares what you know if you can't combine them to survive. my thoughts: your tests are very weak. prove me wrong.

    This guy chops wood like a school girl and wants us to believe his capable to survive outside his back yard??? I knew a girl once that also had a fetish for knifes but didn´t made her a "blade expert" even after she bought a Go Pro also.. LOL. Lots of beautiful good knifes and bullshit talk from a Bear Grills wannabe weekend warrior. LOL. I´m so mean. I know. I just can´t help to comment what i think and I wasn´t the inventor of the commentary section...
