Looking back , seeing Nashwan drift out to 3/1 😂. Imagine how different your life would be if you were “in the know” at that point in the season about how good Nashwan really was ! Wow 👍🏴
What I find staggering is, that the best Miler that year, and a Great miler wasn't even in the field, Zilzal.. As great a horse as Nashwan was, he would not have beaten Zilzal..
Limekiln100, They gave Old Vic to much lead that day plus it was soft ground, I honestly think Nashwan would have took him at the furlong Mark and win going away.
Usually, the winner of this well known flat race goes on to further glory especially in recent years with George Washington, Henrythenavigator, Sea The Stars, Frankel and 2012 winner, Camelot. I remember Cockney Rebel's 2007 shock win owned by the man of the latter pop group.
Not trying to be a dick here but this race is one of the five classics run in England each season and it has Group 1 status, meaning it's the highest level od racing and so the winner will usually go on to run in other Group 1 races as the done thing. And Steve Harley of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel as a band starting out, pre-date the horse Cockney Rebel by about 30 years and he did not own the horse either.
The winner, Nashwan went on to win the Epsom Derby, Eclipse and Ascot's King George in the same year, a remarkable feat in my eyes.
What a field that was.
Nashwan something else ...beautiful best of best
Note Danehill who went on to become a legendary sire.

I Love THIS NAME- NASHWAN!!!!
And became a sire at Shadwell, just down the road from where I grew up in Thetford, Norfolk
Nashwan in front with a furlong to go over 8f was an in running gambling certainty, if only we knew how good he would continue to be that season 👊🏻
Remember backing this horse ante post at 25-1. It seems like yesterday never mind 25 years ago.
30 now!

In May he would of but not later in the year.
@@mallafets Later, Zilzal was voted Horse of the Year 1989. Zilzal didn't run at 2. He would have bolted up in the 2000 Guineas. If he had been ready.
The runner up was a very impressive horse, very imposing pity he went to the states.
Wondered why I hadn't heard of him before!
@@mattylamb9194 Exbourne had a hell of an engine
Shame he went across the pond
Massively underated 2000 guineas field full of group one winners . Bobby Frankel said exbourne was the best turf horse he trained.
He was never considered a Guineas horse.
Nashwan or Old Vic?
A tough one to call, all dependant on the ground conditions.
For me Old Vic at Chantilly was just something else,Secretariat like.Nashwan would not have lived with him that day.
