    We had a huge outbreak in Chicago,even in the high end 5 star hotels.Stores like Gucci,Prada,etc. would take clothes to the hotel for people to try and the rejected clothes brought the bed bugs back to the stores.Stores had to close for the treatment.Sadly,my daughters apartment got infected and it is a nightmare!

    I once had to stay in a Super 8 hotel for an overnight with my ex-husbands Grandma. She insisted on this hotel--we were visiting a town for a wedding. I woke up itching and had bites all over my back. It was horrifying. Somehow, we managed not to bring them home with us. I never want to experience that again. It was disgusting. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. LOL

    I just got back from Paris and no one there was taking about it. I did not stay in a hotel or an AIR BNB I stayed with my family in their flat. I mostly rode the 10 line which has hard plastic seats. No hotels, cinema, hospitals or schools. When I was there no one was taking about it at all, no one in my family not the younger or the older generation. My niece is 18 and did not mention it either, she mentioned seeing a roach in her flat. My friends that live there also did not mention it either. As far as I know I do not have bed bugs. Did not see them, no bites and no itching. But funny my brother use to work in the hospital in Boulogne but he does not work there any more thank God. Agree that the costs should be payed for in the low income communities. After all it is a collective problem.

    Good ways to get rid of bedbugs: Steam everything (especially clothes and furniture where the screws are, and get diatomaceous earth from a garden center or online. Put the diatomaceous earth around the legs of all furniture and sprinkle it wherever you can; it's safe for humans and it kills the bedbugs by drying them out. Heat alone won't work. It has to be direct steam.

    • @joethomas2354
      @joethomas2354 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I saw an exterminator on CZcams using this exact technique. The diatomaceous earth has to be applied in a very fine dusting so that the bugs walk through it. A regular hand clothing steamer works for the bed.

    Thanks. I’ve been following the news and it’s nice to hear from someone “on the ground” so to speak. Do you know if there is a website that provides the name of hotels that have reported issues? I can’t imagine that if one were to call and ask the hotel they were planning to stay at if they had issues that the hotel would be totally transparent.

      Dust your suitcase with ***food grade*** diatomaceous earth. It cuts the exoskeleton of bugs, and they can't breathe and die. The food grade DE can be purchased online or at an animal feed store, where p is super cheap. A bag lasts a long time, share with others. You do not need to use a lot as it's a crystalline structure. Put a bit in your hands and clap them together to distribute the DE. Think of it like talc; a little goes a long way. Great for fleas. If you use too much, though, you can damage your vacuum cleaner filter.

    We had bed bugs in our condo in Florida and ended up hiring a company to exterminate them. Bed bugs love to hide and breed in the crevices of mattresses, sofas and curtains (those industrial synthetic fabrics) so put a plastic cover on your mattress, and put away your curtains in a sealed plastic bag if you have an infestation. The bed bugs used to bite my feet and legs so i wore socks and jogging pants to sleep and it worked in not getting bitten. Also have light linens so you can see them and kill them because theyre dark and dark linens help camouflage them. Strong rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle works great to kill them from my experience. And yeah keep the heat high when youre away and it will assist in killing them, as they will seek water and die from dehydration. They lay eggs so a new batch will appear soon thereafter. You have to stay on top of it until theyre gone.

      …It’s not that they are nocturnal, it’s just that they are attracted to the C02 emitted by humans and so they congregate near where humans sleep and feast on them wherever it’s easiest to access them (while they are sleeping), and thus their name. But that said, it could be anywhere and any time of day.

That being said, if I already had tickets I would definitely go, but would absolutely wash all of my clothes at 60 degrees once I got home. I don’t think this is cause to stop enjoying life all together, but I think it’s wise to take more precautionary measures than usual. People say that this is all being blown out of proportion but I can tell you with certainty that the amount of mattresses covered in bed bugs being thrown out on the streets in Paris right now it insane.

      They could use diatomaceous earth to kill the bedbugs and would need to quarantine the mattresses until all eggs have hatched. DE lices the exoskeleton and kills bugs. Fleas, roaches, etc. Don't need much as it's a crystalline structure and is razor sharp to them.

  • @nikmakespix

    Bed bugs don’t transmit diseases or anything-like mosquitoes or fleas-if you do get bit try not to scratch, scratching causes the real issues. Likening it to Covid is a bit much, but I think I understand what you were trying to say with that.
    No reason for panic, I do hope the city (cities) will act quickly & actually help people exterminate. Those gross little bugs do not go away on their own, so I hope they go exterminate every inch of the metro! We rode it and the RER everywhere when we were Paris back in April.
