  • Around Feburary 17th-18th, 2024, I saw some INSANE trains around the city/province!
Starting off at 11pm on Feb 16th, we see the power of CN 439 at the hump, it was standard cab C40-8 2039, a 'C-Rex' GEVO and another CN GEVO. Passing the trio was one of the hump trios, including a couple SD40's and SD40-2W 5288
We then headed east to Giroux, MB where CN 885 with BNSF 8251, 1059 and DMIR 403 were pulling into the siding for an eastbound oil train. The conductor came and talked with us for a few minutes while they waitied, shoutout to the chill crews on 885 that night!
DMIR 403 is an EMD SD45T-2 (downgraded to an SD40-3) built in 1972 as Southern Pacific 9184. It was bought by the DMIR sometime around the late 90s. BNSF 1059 is a Dash 9 built in the 90's that still retains it's original 'Heritage 1' paint scheme! definitely my favorite look for BNSF next to their predecessor roads, lol.
We chased the train from Giroux to Ste. Anne's, Lorette and Navin (Winnipeg) before heading up north to the CP Rail mainline.
CP GNG-15 was supposed to be coming at the same time as the CN 885, however we had to wait HOURS and a couple freight trains for it to show up. The train had all 3 "CP Rail" era paint schemes on it! Leading was Dual Flags SD40-2 6028, trailing was fresh SD60 6241, behind was Multimark SD40-2 5922 and lastly, action red SD40-2 5766! I have no clue what GNG stands for, Gang? I dunno, but it's headed to Kamloops, BC for track maintenance crews to stay in.
At the yards while CP 6028 was pulling in, CP 'GP40X' 4521 and SD40-2 6069 were switching the east end of the yard, meanwhile CP SD40-2 6014 and GP38-2 4433 were pulling out of Weston shops on the other end of the yard!
On Sunday, Feb. 18th, I barely caught CP 100 headed eastbound with ES44AC 8870 leading, CN ET44AC 3064 in the middle and Kansas City Southern's 'Safety Stars Here' specialty locomotive, ES44AC 4859 bringing up the rear as the train flew past me at spruce road just east of Oakbank, MB

Great video! Could you make a Via Rail compilation if you have sufficient footage?
    Thank you!

I like all thre flashing red right on GTW 5945
What was the DMIR unit doing on its way through Winnipeg with its engine running? I like that it's behind a BNSF doubleheader on CN tracks
