“These money made so much movies.” Technically true
That's how you know they're good.
This franchise is the rare case where they took a strong female protagonist, assassinated her character, and replaced it with a weak female character. This movie was clearly ahead of its time!
Wait who was the strong female character that got assassinated?
@@DoppEff Jill Valentine! And not "killed" assassinated but "character" assassinated
There seems to be a misunderstanding in Hollywood (and other places) of the term "strong" in relation to character, perhaps most so in relation to female characters.
They seem to think that making the character powerful (unbeatable and perfect) is what makes a strong (female) character. the ironic part is that it does the exact opposite in most cases. As the character doesn't have to act like a human, nor overcome any obstacles that make them relatable.
This is not to say it is impossible to make a strong AND powerful character, usually the solution is to imbue the character with flaws. Flaws proportionately to their power level to some degree even.
You can even subvert expectations by revealing the previously perfect character (who people will allready distrusts and dislike) to be a villain, or have them become a villain. Despite the insistence on subverting expectations, Hollywood never seems to go for that option.
I would tentatively argue that a "perfect" character cannot be strong.
@@Astroman10 don't forget about Alice stealing a cool move from Claire: czcams.com/video/6ofRM_v6X94/video.html
@@theraven268 thats not what ''hollywood'' thinks their audience (be it female or male) think it is strong so they keep doing it. Just read some comments defending theese movies :(
Pimp was hands down the best character. Would have loved for him to be a recurring character as the RE universe descends further into destruction, just reacting to the insanity of it all.
To bad the 3rd one ruined his character by having him bitten and not telling anybody, which is exactly what he criticized "the mummy" guy for doing in this one.
Isn't he in the third one? I haven't seen it in like 10 years.
@@Pink.andahalf he is but as everyone knows the next movie was when it went full Castlevania season 3 on the franchise
@@Pink.andahalf He is indeed in the third one, but I would blame anyone for not remembering that.
@@Pink.andahalf He is, but they kill him off.
It was super lame.
Fun fact:
Some promotional material included Raccoon City newspapers, which had two interesting articles.
1. Alice's real name was revealed to be Janis Prospero, and her family had reported her missing.
2. Leon Kennedy is mentioned as not only having died, but was also Jill Valentine's former partner.
Remember these things for later installments of this stupid franchise.
I’d rather not and save the brain cells
Why should I have to remember things when Paul didn’t?
@@Longshanks1690 Exactly the point of why these films get worse as the series goes on
Whatever intern wrote those papers was not consulted for later movies.
Wait I didn't know that, that's the explanation of why Leon is nowhere to be seen?
Jill Valentine in the games: An unassuming and mild-mannered girl who becomes a badass when it counts.
Jill Valentine in the movies: An absurd over-the-top badass who wimps out and fucks up when it counts.
And Capcom thought it was a good idea to copy this film for the RE3 remake.
Jill Valantine was a member of STARS and is the female protag of the first RE game... she's not "an unassuming girl".
By the time you play her in RE3 she already survived the entirety of RE1. So she would have been more "badass" by simply having done this all before.
STARS specifically higher people outside of the police and look for those that are military trained/veterans. She's again not just some "unassuming girl".
They tore Jill down to prop up Alice
@@brandonvallier4214 Did you even PLAY the game? The girl who was timid, fearful, needed to be saved by Barry more than once, whose game was created to be the easy mode of the 1st game?

Mauler: That's Milla Jovovich, not Mila Kunis.
Rags:

Have to say I would much prefer Mila Kunis if it was a decision between Millas lol
I love how nobody responds when Jill literally starts shooting people in a police station. Nobody bothers trying to restrain her. Nobody fires back. They just let her shoot the people they’ve taken into custody.
Maybe she does this all the time and thats why shea disgraced
@@jackobrien47Jill Valentine sees a jaywalker: *So you‘ve chosen death*
Jill keeps killing all the prisoners, no one knows why she still has the keys to the Police Station
Her captain would've yelled at her to get in his office so he could call her a loose cannon and demand she hand over her badge while thumping the desk, but unforunately he was infected so she shot him already.
I hate that kitchen scene. keep in mind that Alice wasn't even with the group when they arrived to the school so Alice
got to the school and found the kitchen
saw Jill setting up the gas
somehow knew Jill was going to fail to set it off
grabs a lit cigarette and fire blanket from gods knows where
all so she can steal the spotlight from an actually RE character and it's not the last time this happens.
Following on from last week, let’s also keep in mind that this is the *most* accurate to the games that this series ever got for the simple fact that it takes place in Racoon City and Jill is…there.
And from here, it just gets more and more… _interesting._ 🥴
I'm here just for Mila Jovovich, she's the mommy.
Nemesis also looks like Nemesis, which is very impressive considering everything else in this series.
Interesting is not the first word I'd use but it works.
I would say that the zombies rising from the ground would one of the most accurate things, considering that happened in RE3. Other than that....
@@JewishFrog Yep
The zombies in this movie have evolved. Every time they are on camera, the framerate drops, making it harder for humans to see or shoot them.
They should have turned down their graphics settings before filming.
I remember Mauler saying that would be a neat idea for a horror villain. Not sure if it was from this one, but it basically looks like it’s in a lower FPS.
That scene with Mila running when the helicopter was trying to shoot her and the next scene with the pistol drop was stolen from Claire in RE Code Veronica.
Lmao.
I was hoping someone would post this.
What's funny is in code Veronica the reason claire did that with her gun was because she saw the explosive tanks behind the soldiers but in this movie she just shoots all 3 guys at once because she's Alice I guess lol
7:45 Sad thing is they give Jill that one cool moment then push her aside in favour of Mary Sue-I mean Alice.
To MauLer regarding the church scene. There's a reason they don't allow you to drive your bike into a church, a bike in the house of God that is on holy ground will literally drive you straight up to heaven....and we can't have people doing that willy nilly now can we?
Frankly, she's lucky she even made it into the church with the bike,if Carol Danvers saw her,she would have broken her hand and stole it....

Nemesis deadass gets 'beaten' because the power of friendship is stronger than the T-virus. wtf
S. T. A. R. S
Not to mention that he dies when a helicopter crashes onto him. Like seriously 🙈? Nemesis in RE3 would have just taken that and kept going. Possibly go through a mutation if the damage was too great. But he definitely wouldn't die from that.
@@Egurius3 Also that apparently in this movie, Nemesis is a robot?
How do we weaponize this..."power of friendship" that you speak of?
The Nemesis from the games is a near unstoppable killing machine it took the destruction of Raccoon City to completely kill. The Nemesis in the films is just some bloke called Matt, gets his ass kicked by Alice at every turn and randomly becomes good near the end.
That G.O.T sequence brought a tear to my eye.

Five kilotons isn't actually very large, as nuclear weapons go. Even airbursted, it wouldn't cover all of most modern medium-size cities.
Intriguing but highly disturbing.
I figured that was why they had airbursted it, since it was a smaller yield
@@kalxek1462 not even- an airburst expands the blast overpressure zone, but that won't do anything so far as sterilizing the pathogen goes - that would be driven more by the thermal raidation emitted, which would suffer fron less occlusion by ground objects in an airbust, but is (relatively) minuscule in a 5 kt detonation. If they meant 5MT, it would be a more plausible solution, but really not possible to disguise as anything else. But that's also 3 orders of magnitude off from what they actually said.
Then technically the movies were consistent with this plot point? Because the next movie indicates the nuke was ineffective at eradicating the zombies, since the virus spread continuing to the rest of the world.
@@nicholaskinkaid Fair, but it's *so* inadequate that it's odd they decided to try. Especially when the devices already deployed on ballistic missiles (the easiest delivery method for this sort of unexpected target) are two orders of magnitude larger.
Plus obviously no one with any sense would confuse a nuclear weapon with a reactor meltdown, and neither would foreign states with their own seismography. Or early-warning satellites. Even if the possible yeilds were comparable (they're not) the blast characteristics are different.
I want to quickly celebrate one of Jared Harris’ underrated roles. He was amazing as Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. That ending scene between him and Holmes was superbly acted.
He was also Ulysses S Grant in Lincoln. Not in it long but the scene on the porch with Lincoln after the fall of Petersburg was perfect.

Do Jill or Alice ever mention reporter lady again? Like hey that person we sent off by herself never came back. I guess we got her killed.
They seem aware she's dead because of finding the camera but never really discuss "oh shit, our decision got someone killed when they might have been able to survive that"
It’s made so much worse because Jill is absolutely responsible for ReporterLady’s death. Not only did she order a frightened civilian to go exploring an unsecured building on her own (nice STARS experience there), she actually vetoed TaxiPimp’s effort to go with her.
Like...what was the reason for that? He maybe leered at her a bit. _Maybe._ Does Jill think he’s a horrible sex pervert now that can’t be trusted in the presence of lone women? And even if she does, does she also think he’s willing to endanger his life and also ReporterLady’s for some pervin?

1:37 The T-Virus in the films is super overpowered compared to the one in the games. The film one makes the world a desert wasteland within a few years. The game's T-Virus was never that effective.
Which is why umbrella would make other viruses like g to overcome the t-virus’s short comings
@@connorbestbarlow1043 The thing is though the films never used the G-Virus, the T-Veronica Virus, Uroboros or the original Progenitor Virus T was created from. They only ever used the T-Virus. Even Las Plagas, which in the games were ancient parasites that existed long before Umbrella was even founded let alone before any of their viruses were created were made into just another mutation of the T-Virus in the films.
I always found it stupid how they show the planet drying up on the intro of the third film. Did the zombies drank the oceans, how the fuck does that happens?

I’m so excited to see their reactions to Afterlife and Retribution
Yeah considering that the first two are the most coherent/grounded of the bunch I'm very excited to see how they react to the rest of the series.
RLM literally went insane from Afterlife so I'm hoping we get the same reaction.
Just so you know, if someone is far-sighted, they need glasses to read and use computers, but they don't need glasses to see normal things at a normal distance. If a far-sighted person wears glasses for computer use, they would need to take off their glasses to look at distant things.
Sometimes, far-sighted people want small glasses so that they don't need to take them off too much.
That way, if they see something in their peripheral vision, they don't need to turn their head to look at it, and they don't need to take off their glasses to look at it.

You have a guest named Moriarty and Jared Harris who played Moriarty in the movie and don't bring it up.
Jill's outfit and actress were kinda appreciated. RE fans were NOT happy with this Jill at all!
In the games, Jill Valentine is one of the most badass female characters you will ever see. Umbrella created a bio weapon specifically to hunt her down. Yet, in this movie they turn Jill into some whiny little girl that shoots her gun a couple of times and Alice does everything for her. Even the nemesis was created to attack Alice not Jill. F*** this Jill Sandwich!!
The core problem is that Paul W.S. Anderson only wanted to write Mila Jovovich scenes. On one level, I can understand, but the easiest, most seamless way was to write Jill out of the movie altogether and have Alice be the Jill of this movie.
Or better yet, cast Mila as Jill in the first movie, but continuity prevents that recast. Jill scenes and Alice scenes practically come from different movies.
Generally agreed, but... wasn't Nemesis, the bioweapon, created to hunt down all of the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members, not just Jill?
@@niewesoa5299 Correct, only it was Jill that Nemesis had the hardest time eliminating. Also Jill from the games would not send a person who has never used a fire arm off on their own.
That police deffensive perimeter was recreation of Resident Evil 3 cutscene where are STARS and Cops almost surrounded but they decided to hold the line anyways - it was their decision to stay and die.
I think in this one they were surrounded. Idiots drove straight into a horde, set up a defender area and trapped themselves. Hence why the three Umbrella guys went into the alleys, because there are fewer zombies.
@@rhyscallinan3727 yes that seems to be the point in this movie. I just pointed out that they took inspiration from the game. Game police officers stayed willingly instead of just being stupid.
@@petrhanke8644 i don't think the EFAP crew realised that. Another thing they don't realise is that zombies don't exist in the RE universe. No games or shows, so obviously nobody would know about the head damage needed or the bites that turn people. And to be fair, Apocalypse was set in 2004 and the first one earlier, so the range of zombie related media is few and far between. This was before the Zombie Era, when zombie movies were popular.

Is Jill becoming the Batwoman of this series? She abandoned Nikolai for no reason, getting him killed, and far more damningly I hold her directly responsible for Reporter Lady’s death. She was a terrified civilian that had never even held a gun before and said outright that she didn’t want to be sent off alone, and Jill forced her to anyway.
Even worse? TaxiPimp was willing to go with her! I don’t care that he was eying her up: unless Jill has such a low opinion of him that she thinks he’d try to force himself on Reporter Lady as soon as they’re alone, she has no good reason to separate them.
Then again, her introductory scene had her wordlessly walking into a crowded police station and opening fire. We probably should have expected that she’d be unfit to lead a line, much less a group like this.
Considering she's also pointlessly upstaged by Alice at every turn for illogical reasons while neither is called out by the film for their respective piece-of-shit behavior, you may be on to something

He double checks and adresses it in the end, he thought the budget for the franchise was for this singular movie.
13:05 Hey that's the N.A.Zi from U-571. And Valkyrie. And The Pianist. And Stalingrad. And In Enemy Hands. Must feel great to be the guy everyone calls when they need a Naa.zi.
Can’t remember if I’ve seen a film where he was a good guy??
I think he plays the ship captain in Peter Jackson's King Kong. He's a decent guy in that one
I absolutely love the Sabaton-Jeebus edit. Spot on, haha.
I also enjoyed the inclusion of The Last Stand.
I'd like to see you guys go through the animated Resident Evil movies. I've only seen a few of them and once but I remember enjoying them.
I might have been too young and just turned my brain off to have fun
I can 100% guarantee that you were indeed too young and had your brain turned off lol they're just as awful, but tbf, they retain the same so-bad-its-entertaining vibe as the live action ones lol
Considering how confused they were at the ending I can't wait for the reaction to the psychic shenanigans in the next two
I'm loving these EFAP movies.
Excellent editing! Good job Goger.
You know Angie is dealing with stress pretty remarkably. Reporter woman was eaten alive and she heard all of it. Yet she wasn't shaking or sweating, or showing any kind of stress signs when Jill found her.
Im just gonna say it
The live representation of Jill valentine is the best thing that came out of these movies.
