  • Welcome! These comedy clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view.

    There was a time when Lily Tomlin was mostly known for her stage shows which were recorded on her comedy albums, Appearing Nightly and Modern Scream.

      @@eduardo_corrochio I love it. Sent the link of that album to one of my sisters and she could not stop laughing and sending me her favorite quotes from the album. She had only ever heard Mr Veedle before. Classic

      @@punkanellylovejoy702 That's super. When I was a kid and listened to the vinyl in the 1970s I was not hip or well read enough to get some of the humor-- like "Mr. Veedle" being Gore Vidal. But so much of that humor hit my funny bone with precision; I mean, what's better than Ernestine snapping at a lady to go get Vito a snack and beverage pronto! So good.

    Not to be pedantic, but this clip isn’t “on Dave Letterman”; this is the Tonight Show with Dave guest-hosting.

    Lily is such a fine performer, but all her material is written by her wife, Jane Wagner.

      It was not "all" but lilly stood up for her when credit when due when industry refused to acknowledge jane for writing.

      Why “but”?

    • @storybellz
      @storybellz Před 4 lety +13

      That's not true. She didn't meet her wife until 1971, and by then, Lily already had a whole slate of characters she was known for from Laugh-In and comedy clubs she would perform in. So, while many worry that Jane doesn't get enough credit, it's also true that sometimes, she gets too much credit. I do think Lily started to become a little reliant (if lazy) when Jane came along and wowed her. But, the truth is, she had already established herself as a talent before that.
