I still remember this song from NCIS. Listening to it many many years later, just as special as it was the first time I heard it.

The trumpet was too loud, flat, and without any vibrato (which it needed in this song). A violin would have been a much better choice - especially for a simple, sustained line like this. It would have also blended better with the cello which started too loud but was then adjusted afterward. Love the song.
