As someone with depression, I've constantly had moments in my life where it took everything in me to take myself out of a dark place, and remind myself that there's gotta be a reason that I'm here and that I'm alive. So, the chorus really hit close to home. I couldn't be happier to have heard this song when I was in one of those dark times, since it really felt close to my heart. This is my favorite song now.

I really like the line “The changing of the seasons never changed my hurt.” It’s probably not what he’s referencing, but up here in Michigan it’s cold most of the year, and during the Winter, seasonal depression spreads like wildfire. It’s just beginning to get warm again, and I’m starting to feel a lot better, but the line just carries so much impact because even when everything gets brighter, you still feel like your own dark self.

Hey Alec- not sure if you’ll see this but I have a story for you.
This year is my friend David’s first Christmas with his adopted parents. He was living with his birth parents and his brother Rayn his whole life, until when he was 10 and Rayn was 14, his dad died. That affected his mom a lot. She started taking drugs to take her mind off of it, and eventually lost her house. They were living in tents or in their car for awhile, and their mom got worse. Eventually, David and Rayn were put up for adoption. David is 11 and Rayn is 15 now. They have an adopted little sister as well, Natalya. He’s adjusting very well for his circumstances, but every once in a while he still thinks about his mom, and how if she gave up drugs, she could have kept her sons.

Something about a previously bullied boy (boy in the bubble)who did everything for his girlfriend (Annabelle?), but all she did was use and abuse him emotionally. All he wanted to do was make her happy even though he knew it was hopeless, and he eventually committed suicide (if i killed someone for you). The other songs in the album kinda link it together, and he could have been born in 1994. Death of a hero also links to it, idk. I'm just a fan looking to much into it lol but its amazing how Alec can create stories like these.., damn:)
EDIT: Slightly darker thought, but 1944 could be his thoughts as he is dying, i don't know. If We Have Each Other contradicts this whole thing but oh well lol

Sorry if that sounds weird, but if I'm thinking of the "alternative" story, I'll think of "v2" of this song so to speak, if that makes sense. if I'm viewing the album the way Alec wants us to view it, I'll think of "v1" of the song :)

Alec I love your music and I'm going to do gotta be a reason for the grade 5 talent show. I honestly think you should have at least 10m subs. In grade 5 and 6 track and field I qualified for divisionals in 200 m,400m, 800m, 1500m long jump and triple jump while humming your songs in my head because they make me so much more confident. And you helped me do all that when I'm only 4'2. So thank you Alec for boosting my confidence and helping make my life easier.

I have a little backstory for this that I made up! So here we go!
Alec has been searching for awhile for reasons to live when his parents (Look I'm making this up give me credit) die. Every time he encounters someone, they always get the hurt in his eyes reflected off to them and they lose someone they love or something horrible happens so their dreams can't come true. When he vists his loved ones grave, he sees this old man, he also has this curse. Once the man leaves, he finds someone else, a woman, who works at a bar (hell yeah I'm going with the song). He also realized that she had the same curse.

My backstory for this
(TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide)
His best friend commit suicide and he has this dream, where it was too late. Alec didn't get to save him, so his best friend was crawling to him but didn't make it. So Alec questions himself and now, he has his best friend's voice in his head, its just stuck there. Telling him he was worthless, but then he meets a new friend which is the girl, Alec was dead inside but acted like a happy person, after awhile the girl realized Alec was not actually happy, but Alec's best friend didn't want people to help Alec recover, and since he didn't save him, the curse was left over to the girl, not realizing that Alec is free from the curse.
