The dancer I couldn't identify last year, I recognize as Luanna. She was a lovely person and helped us score tix to the halau Ho'ike. Good times way back when. Oakland CA
Holy cow. A young Kawaikapu Hewett, a young Haunani Apoliana and two of his dancers, one of which we knew but in the years passing have forgotten her name. Lovely to see and hear this. Mahalo.
Thanks for the great video. Halalu has always been one of my favorite mele of Kumu Frank. Great to see the always awesome Haunani Apolonia too! Small thing maybe, but I think the video title should read “Frank Kawaikapu”, not “Kanaikapu”. Mahalo.
I'm going 2 guestimate around late 1981 or early 1982. My mom danced with his Halau at that time and I remember Luana K. Who is dancing stage left looking exactly that way all those many years ago.
My maternal great grand mother Rosina Shaw was supposedly Aunty Nona's favorite teacher at Kamehameha Schools in the late 1930's and early 1940's. My cousin is married to Keola Beamer.
