      They basically do a video like this on almost every instance of a goalie scoring because it's so rare.

  • @NPRMc
    @NPRMc Před 3 lety +4

    In 1987 Bob Froese of the Rangers was credited with a goal against the Islanders for about a week until the league reviewed video and concluded that Rangers defenseman Dave Shaw last touched the puck before the Islanders Brent Sutter sent it down ice into the Islanders net. But for a few days Froese had a goal...
    This set off a bit of a stir where the press started prodding goalies and speculating which goalie had the ability to actually shoot and score a goal on an empty net...
    In turn some NHL, AHL and at the college level all started taking liberties and began shooting down ice late in games. Darcy Wakaluk of the Sabres scored in the AHL a couple of days after the NHL wiped out Bob Froese’s goal. The press basically turned its focus on the Flyers Ron Hextall to score a goal as he had the best stick handling skills in the league and was known for throwing pucks into the opposing end...
    A few days later Hextall took 2 shots against Boston and met the challenge with the first modern day legit goal scored by an NHL goalie...
    But for about a week in December ‘87 you’d be crazy not to watch a game until the very end when fans would start roaring for the goalie to shoot any time he touched the puck with an empty goal about 200 feet away.

    Everytime I see these things I remember old days of D2 the Mighty Ducks when Russ Tyler used the knuckle Puck as a goalie to score

    In the first clip the commentator shows no expression when the goalie scores

    Hextall still has the most legit goals.

    Being in Vancouver, I'm embarrassed to see Nabakov also scored an empty netter against Canucks right in Vancouver like Ullmar did

    NHL: "Martin Brodeur is the only netminder to [do] so multiple times."
    Also NHL: posts 2 clips of Hextall scoring goals

      Whoever wrote that little synopsis of the video really stinks at their job (NHL's official CZcams page??).
      Brodeur only scored one goal himself, the other goals were credited to him because he was the last Devils player to touch the puck before the other team put it in their own net. Hextall is the only goalie to score multiple times by actually shooting the puck.
