In later years, Steffi actually forgot about this match and a little shocked to be reminded. She and her husband, Andre Agassi, were apparently taking part in a tennis quiz with other players and one question was "who is the only player to win a grand slam final 6-0, 6-0 in the open era". Steffi apparently answered Martina Navratilova

A combination of Zvereva being nervous and helpless, and Graf being at the absolute peak of her powers. Throw in the fact that Graf is a particularly horrendous match up for Zvereva even at the best of times, and you get this demolition job.

Reporters asked her about her runner-up check afterwards, thinking they had to say SOMETHING upbeat to her, and her response was something like "Who cares? Russia gets everything I earn!" She had a terrible attitude at the time, likely deservedly, and before the match she was asked something like does she think she can beat Steffi and her terse response was NO. I'd have thought she'd fight for at least ONE game. No one wants to lose 60 60, but maybe she did. She really was pissed at Russian fed.

utter BS...have you played tennis ....im sure you have no clue how good Steffi was. Best footwork and best forehand of all time and her slice is just underrated by people who have never played against a very low and consistnet slice..it is tough to play. Seles was a great player too, but for sure would not have taken 8 GS from Steffi ..no way, and also who prooves , that the stabbing really was the reason for her not performing. All speculation..let the facts speak. Steffi and Venus are the GOATs

Then Seles took a lengthy 2 year break for what was a minor injury, got fat and didn't work on her game. That's why her comeback was so disappointing. And she never would get the fitness level necessary to be a real threat, 1998 was her best year and she was still losing matches she should win routinely. Petra Kvitova suffered a far more serious career-threatening injury, and was back on tour in 7 months after intense surgery and rehab. Some are driven, some are not.
