    As a Chiefs fan I actually liked Fish. Wasn't the best LT in the game but wasn't a liability when he played. Maybe not worthy of the 1st overall pick but Fish's career was solid which is more than I can say for most of this draft class. Was a little sad when the Chiefs let him go.

      @@kasheimb I said fringe HOFer. That's my opinion. He probably said he wasn't going to make it. I didn't hear the quote. The reason I said fringe and not definitely is probably the same reasons he has. 1) he played his prime in the desert of Detroit, with no media coverage or hype. 2) it's difficult for CBs to make it. Eric Allen one of the best lock down CBs in Era (top 3 easily) and historically isn't in. Lester Hayes isn't in.

    Tavon Austin's career got derailed by the poor QB play from the Rams teams of 2013-2016. Austin went through Sam Bradford's last 7 games as a Rams starter, Kellen Clemens, Sean Hill, Austin Davis, Case Keenum, Nick Foles and Jared Goff's rookie year during those 4 seasons. Although he received a big contract extension in 2016 he was traded after the 2017 season to the Cowboys where his career died. Tavon Austin was the player who truly brought the jet sweep from the receiver positions into prominence in the NFL. Sean McVay made Austin a running back in his final year with the Rams in 2017 where he was really productive and utilized in the slot for those jet sweep threats. Both Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp ran those sweeps for the Rams after Austin departed with great success and other teams adopted the play over the last decade to great effect. I always wondered how good Austin would have been had he gone to a team with a real QB his first four years. Thanks for the good segment.

    • @senator558
      @senator558 Před 15 dny +1

      My enduring memory of Tavon was taking the handoff on a jet sweep and running parallel to the line of scrimmage until he ran out of bounds for a three yard loss. And that was his best play. It wouldn’t matter if a more skilled QB handed him the ball. He just didn’t have the size to risk cutting into opposing defenses.

    • @johnthrasher8146
      @johnthrasher8146 Před 15 dny

      @@senator558 I remember all those Tavon Austin punt returns for touchdowns that were called back for one penalty or another from the John Fassel special teams units of the Fisher coached Rams teams of that period. He ended up with 3 punt return touchdowns but it should have been much higher. Most of the jet sweeps I remember gained around 10 yards and I recall a couple that went for 20 yards plus that were touchdowns. I guess we'll just disagree about the crummy QB play the Rams had from 2013 to 2016 and how it hurt Tavon's career numbers. His performance in the Rams-Colts game during the 2013 season was one for the ages. His 314 all purpose yards remains 2nd in Rams franchise history for most yards in a game behind only Flipper Anderson's 336 yards in 1989 and right above Jon Arnett's 295 total yards from 1958. It is the 25th highest total in NFL history.

    The best left tackle in the draft was selected in the 4th round when Green Bay took David Bakhtiari. He made not have made a lot of Pro Bowls, but he earned a bunch of All-Pros. I do believe making an All-Pro team has more merit than a Pro-Bowl. Le'Veon Bell was on the Hall of Fame path too before he went bonkers. Travis Frederick was also on the path to a very successful career until he was stricken with Guillian-Barre syndrome, and if you know anyone who's been stricken with that it is one nasty disease and leaves many of its victims with some type of permanent paralysis and saps them of their muscular strength. Kyle Juszczyk craved out a very nice career for himself too. A.J. Bouye and Adam Theilen came from the undrafted ranks and had decent careers too.

    Switching a guy who is a pure RT or LT to the opposite side is one of the hardest things any NFL player can do. as a LT myself, obviously not NFL level, I had to play RT a few games during the season and it just was so weird. Im also left handed. So playing LT just just so natural to me. My right leg is my step off point and my left leg can kick back and it just worked like clock work. Then to have to change it up, hard as fook.
