I know people say its just because I am getting old (48) but I stand by my word that the 70's & early 80's produced some of the best music ever. We had to wait for the vinyl album / CD to be released, walk into town to physically buy the product then sit at home in comfort and listen to the whole album as it took us on a journey. None of this quick, any quality will do, listen as i sit on the bus one track is all I like rubbish, it was a journey and to me, its part of my life as such. Hard to describe but I guess some of you know where I am coming from.

I say that realizing that throughout they laid out a smorgasbord of quality compositions expertly performed. I mean at least 3 of the Doobies did time with Steely Dan. Actually Michael's photo is just after Bobby Hatfield's (The Righteous Brothers). :-)
I do believe he earned the moniker "Blue eyes soul" first, several years before Michael came onto the music scene. I remember when I was a kid in the early 70's, my uncle used the term to describe Bobby & his iconic 1965 version of "Unchained Melody". One of my all time favorite songs from Michael is his 1986 duet with Patti LaBelle for "On my own".

Saw them a couple of times, and their level of musicianship is through the roof.
They were also a band, like the old Hall & Oates band, where all the members could sing... so the backing vocals are rich and thick with harmony.
Can’t remember if you already did the Doobies’ Black Water, pre-Michael MacDonald, but it’s stellar song!

Between 1977 & 1982 it seemed that Michael McDonald was on EVERY record on the radio, he was everywhere:
Doobie Bro’s. & solo. Backing vocals on Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Ambrosia, Christopher Cross, Robbie Dupree & many more.
    So great, sooo smooth.

Great reaction as usual Jamel, I knew you’d like this! What an awesome night with the Doobies and Steely Dan. From the same album is Depending on You, a mix of the original Doobies and Michael McDonald sounds. Great vocal arrangement, Patrick Simmons on lead but you will hear MM clearly on the backups. It’s great. Thanks for a great escape from from scary times, brother.
