Mount Shasta 2024: Climbing and Skiing Avalanche Gulch

In mid-May 2024, we headed up to Mount Shasta for a full day climbing and skiing Avalanche Gulch. Shortly after setting out in the early morning hours, Aaron and Savannah had to cut their day short when Savannah had a stomach bug that acted up and they were forced to head back to the hotel. Lauren and I kept pushing, unsure what the conditions would be or whether we would make the summit, due to a massive wind event the week prior and unknown conditions ahead of us. Turned out to be totally OK, albeit windblown in spots, and it was a busy day on the mountain. After topping out in the late morning, we had a nice long run back to the trailhead at Bunny Flat. (As you can see in the end of the video, the lower section had a massive avalanche at some point earlier this winter, destroying huge trees and re-carving a huge runout path).
