    buying a burgman? many horror stories? I have 2007 Suzuki Burgma 400 with 45,000 miles on it, I don't have any problem with it. THIS video is from my friend's burgman, he didn't follow the maintenance schedule that's why he got some problems on his burgman. If you buy burgman, you are lucky to have me because I have MANY tutorial videos how to do service on burgman :)

      Neglected maintenance, of course. Rollers are not expensive. The variator should be cleaned from that dust in regular intervals, e.g. every 6000.
      Viewing this I wonder how are the ramps, I believe they may have a step.

    hi i have burgman 400 and i changed belt and rolers,i had 21gr stock rolers with my top speed was 175 kmh thats around 105-110mph.and afterward from mallosi preferred me 18 gr and with them my top speed drop to 140 kmh around 85mph.
    my conclusion is that i will never use rollers under 21gr ill put back the original ones 21gr they were in perfect condition after 27000km around 17000miles the belt was not in perfect condition. ....

    Only just bought 1 1999 Burgman 400. Found that it only reaches 60MPH and seems to go forward - then hold back- forward- hold back etc. No rev counter to tell what revs its doing. Could this be the same problem ?
    It has 25K miles on it. This is my first scoot.

  • @TheDylanJoyce
    @TheDylanJoyce Před 8 lety +1

    So when riding, did you get a sliding sensation from the engine causing you to loose power? Did it feel like something was not catching? Mine could have that very same problem. When I open the throttle all the way, something in the transmission causes me to loose power and the belt seems to slid or something.

  • @almikelipscomb

    Mitch, I am about to change to Dr Pulley Sliders (21g) and new belt. I have 19,000 miles on '05 400. Question on the clutch. When pads get too worn, do you replace the pads or is the whole clutch just replaced? Thanks.

    do you think the HIT clutch made your buddys bike accelerate faster? Just trying to figure out if its worth the money, btw my scooter with 1800 miles has some strange Vibration/Buzzing at HWY speeds which makes me want to re-sale it. I'm guessing I have some weak CVT parts that causes this

    @fahdb10 my mistake that i typed 21... really it's 23.. I wanted 21 but all I can get is 23 ...it was last year.. 18 give more rpm at high speed but not bad, I love the power... 23 didn't make me want to go back to 18 right away.. 6000 rpm at 80 mph is sweet so I leave them alone

    It's at a used car dealership, they had a customer trade-in towards a car purchase. The salesman said that the guy told him that no maintenace other then oil changes had ever been done to it. It is in great condition, seems well taken care of. Was a garaged unit for sure just by looking at it. Engine starts and runs great. Tires have been replaced recently, Clutch seems tight, but since I have never owned one before I don't know good from bad? They only want $1500 for it, what do you think ?

  • @almikelipscomb
    @almikelipscomb Před 11 lety

    Changed out original rollers to the sliders (21g) and changed v-belt. What a difference! At 70 mph indicated, was at 7,000 rpm, now 5,500 rpm. Question though, at around 4500 rpm, scooter feels like I pushed an overdrive button or changed to a lower gear as rpm's drop at that point. Is that normal? That's about the best I can explain how it feels.

    In all your travels on your burger, do you ever have a squealing noise on takeoff? Mine does it occasionally. I've been told it's an accumulation of belt/clutch shoe dust. I only have 4200 miles on it. Do you know of a fix?

    • @Brian-Outdoors
      @Brian-Outdoors Před 7 lety

      @0269Reaper I have the same problem with belt squeals off takeoff and shutter at low speeds and my 07 has only 4150 miles. What ended up being your issue?

    • @kindpanda1075
      @kindpanda1075 Před 6 lety

      From BurgmanUSA I don't have the link, but they said to high or to low rpms at take off. They recommended starting at 4000 rpms. Works so far for my 2007 burgman 400, but I've only had it a week. 14000 miles on it. It's time for a CVT checkup.

      That seems completely ridiculous. idk what a clutch and beltdrive costs for a burgman, but it can't be anywhere near $1000. The replacement is a matter of half an hour for a skilled mechanic, or a weekend for a complete klutz. There must have been something else wrong with it.

    I’m going to pass on buying a 2012 burg man with 7000 miles on it. I was looking up informative videos here on CZcams before I make the buy...After reading these comments, and seeing this video, that I have been watching to get tips and things to check on the machine before I buy it, I’m gonna pass..Especially when you have to revert/resort to aftermarket parts. Because I have always been a firm believer in the factory original parts. I always tell people that the factory knows more than you do, so don’t modify your machine., but they don’t listen. They buy aftermarket exhaust systems, and aftermarket components to plug into their computers, and they wonder why their machine doesn’t run correctly after the modifications.
    I’ll just keep riding my Honda pacific coast, Which I consider to be the best all-around two wheeled vehicle in the history of the universe. I put 132,000 miles on my first one, and I only have 38,000 miles on my current one. The only reason I don’t still have my first Pacific coast is because, I was hit from behind while waiting my turn at the stop sign on my way to work on that machine.i also have my Guzzi norge which is my 4th Guzzi since I fell in love with them in 1979. They’re not Jet perfect, but they have a soul ...
    My riding buddy for over 40 years traded his BMW K 1200 RS in on a Burgman 650. I thought he was nuts, I actually yelled at him over the phone for doing such a crazy thing. That was until I rode the 650 It wasn’t as bad as I thought, I actually recommended my next-door neighbor to buy a burgman 650, which he did, and he rode for years.
    But in my decades of riding since 1968, I have had three transmission lock ups on motorcycles for various reasons. When a transmission locks up on a motorcycle, pulling the clutch lever doesn’t save you, it does not release the rear wheel, the clutch is between the engine and the transmission. Not between the transmission and the rear wheel. So questionable components in the drivetrain still scare the hell out of me on two wheel vehicles.
    I have always done all my own maintenance on my race bikes, dirt bikes, street bikes, I actually used to make my living as a motorcycle mechanic in a Honda/Yamaha dealership. I can do just about any repair/maintenance job, at least I have been able to, Even crankshaft rebuilding and truing.except for, boring cylinders. I don’t have a boring bar,
    The one fault I find with scooters besides having tiny wheels, and short wheelbase, Is the rear suspension design is just overwhelmed. There is just so much unsprung weight for the suspension to contend with.that you’re never going to get a well mannered soft riding long travel suspension because of the basic design of a scooter. They are over sprung under dampened and the swing arm travel is too short by design. It can’t be helped. It’s a compromise that you have to live with.
    I like the look of the 400. I think it’s a neat little around town package. But after seeing this video, it and all of that for lack of a better term, poorly designed rear drive system, I’m going to pass...
