  • The Donner Party were pioneers who migrated to California in a wagon train from the Midwest. Delayed by a multitude of tragedies, they spent the terrible winter of 1846-1847 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Excellent doc. I really enjoyed it. I’ve always been fascinated w the Donner/Reed party. Their hardships should make us all appreciate our lifestyles and be grateful that we don’t have to travel by covered wagon. I’ll bet they never imagined their story would be still be being discussed 160 years later.

Technically most of them didn't have to travel west. They made a decision to do so.

This is absolutely true: My mother went to school/high school with a Breen descendant from this party. ;) . In the days of everyone in a small town knowing everyone sort of thing. All interacting with one another. :)
I'm not going to say anymore with regards to specifics about what happened as it's not my place to do so.
I will just say that the 'Donner party' story is ex-aggerated a bit with regards to the cannibalism. (and I don't mean this site not accusing of false info. it's the general story that most people hear so, your in the norm :) great presentations as always :) It did indeed happen but not as grandiose as our history books tell us.
It was well known by all in our town that the Breen's were Donner party participant descents. They even had some of a diary(s) kept.
Just a cosmic query of co-incidents. 6 degrees of separation :)
Keep up the great work! ;)

Thank you. I appreciate the comment. What you say is not surprising. Most of history has been embellished. Some changed to fit a narrative. Sad. Thanks for watching.

Me either! It was probably best not to take a shortcut you have no idea about, especially when you are trying to beat a winter storm. Sad for all those families though. A lot of people died for no reason other than 1 man's crazy idea of a faster way!

@@charityslone9050 True. He just left them out to sort it out on their own. He led them there with his scheme of a shortcut then never showed up to guide them. But even if he had, that shortcut was not meant for wagon trains.. they were doomed from the get go. He was an idiot and should have been charged with the murder of all of those innocent people!

Lol, What do you mean. You lose your mind before you eat someone not after. A sane person don't eat people. Idc what situation your in there are just some things you don't do and eating people is one of them even if they are dead. They say a person in the ground also killed a person or people to eat them so not only are they eating the people that died by freezing to death but they killed someone for the purpose of eating them.
