First of all, there's news/rumors that were revealed regarding Disney+ wanting to make a series based on Encanto (like Aladdin the Series.) So...we MAY end up getting more, someday but I don't know when. Second, I think Mirabel's "gift" is being the emotional heart of the family. Through her support, encouragement and kindness; her family is able to embrace who they are (as seen at the start between her and Antonio under the bed)
@@sadlobster1 Personally, i think Mirabel's gift *is Her.* Bruno also said it in the song 'All of you' , "You're the real gift kid, Let us in" Thankyou for the rumor fact btw, It gave me hope for the series

Haha we caught the rats in the wall part and I thought she was talking about Mariano with the Iâm âItâs like I hear him, nowâ but we were so caught up in Doloresâs part are brains shut off đ!
The rats in the walls comment may not necessarily be meant (by Dolores) as a hint, and âitâs like I hear him nowâ could possibly be referring to Mariano. The other one is definitely a hint. â...Do you understand?â
@@Ojhe If you look closely you can see Bruno, in silhouette, sneaking around in the background shadows (and vibing to the song!) when Dolores sings that bit.
Iâm so glad that you guys understood Isabella. She is my favorite character in the movie. So many people scoff when she says âIâve been stuck being perfect my whole lifeâ bc is that rlly your problem? But she doesnât wanna be perfect. Her perfection makes everyone but her happy. Itâs why sheâs mean to Mirabel. Sheâs envious that Mirabel gets to be imperfect and thatâs why sheâs mean. She has just as much pressure as Luisa itâs just not as visible. If you make it to this point I wanna say that I really enjoyed this reaction!!!
Yeah I first saw the cracks in her facade when Dolores tells her that Mariano wants five babies. The movie did a good job in showing us her character and what she was willing to do for her family on a macro level. Itâs also a relationship you see in siblings often. Itâs very easy to see everything Mirabel goes through and write Isa off as an asshole I feel but of course thereâd be some bitterness between the two if one of them feels like they have to be perfect 24/7 and the other one feels displaced in their own family. Sorry for typing so much but this movie is just so good đđđ
Also, gonna put this out there...the first two interactions we see between Mirabel and Isabella are Mirabel barging into her room to wake her up, and Mirabel talking $#+ About Isabella to Mariano, both during "Family Madrigal." Seriously, during the really fast part, Mirabel says to Mariano's face, "You can marry my sister if you wanna, but between you and me, she's kind of a prima donna," and Isabella was walking by when that happened. I mean, I get that Isabella wasn't actually into him, but Mirabel didn't know that, and you just don't SAY that to someone's S.O. regardless... Don't get me wrong, I love Mirabel. She's a sweetheart and probably didn't realize she was hurting Isabela (she probably didn't even realize she COULD hurt Isabela), but that's what happens when resentment makes us vilify someone. Especially when the resentment goes 2 ways.
@@kateiannacone2698 Yeah, but Isabella was also showing resentment towards Mirabel. She constantly talked down to her and made her feel like she wasnât good enough to be part of the family. Saying how Mirabel just gets in the way. Isabella kind of took all of her stress out on Mirabel.
The people that attacked Abuelaâs village were actually other Columbians as she was living around the time of the Thousand Day War (a civil war) and we only really know that because Encantoâs more modern setting takes place around 1950, I believe.
That is not entirely true, it reffers to the internal conflict that we have been living for the past 50+ years and the phenomenon of forced displacement that a lot of people have suffered even to this day, it is not reffering a singular event.
@@javierrengifo4369 No I heard it was about the Thousand Day War to, what makes you say it's not? Do you have proof DISPROVING that it's about the war?
@@fredericksaxton9782 the thousand day war didn't involve in any capacity the forced displacement of people out of their homes, it was a political war that was fought outside of the populated towns, on the other hand the forced displacement as a consecuence of the internal conflict of the last 60 years is a whole different story, beautifully portraid by the disney people but you guys keep thinking that ENCANTO is from the 50's because off the outfits but that is just the tradicional fashion of my country, i hope that i was able to solve your cuestion, and if yoy have any more doubts just let me know, and I am sorry in advance if some words are poorly written, english is my second language
In the ending, the part that really got me smiling is Pepa dancing to her own rain cloud at 54:55. It shows that she can finally be free with her emotions instead of saying "clear skies, clear skies" and hiding it. đ„șâ€
Yes, and showing the cloud while she's happy just helps to show how much of her emotions she had to repress. Sad tears, mad tears, and even happy tears.
It's interesting but if you look at Pepa and her siblings when they are kids and get their door as well as in the photos that Pepa is a VERY cheerful little girl, a little "Ray of sunshine" as it were, wheras Bruno is a bit timid. and Julieta is pretty serious as a child. Over time she must have felt a huge amount of pressure to maintain her composure at all times, no matter how stressed she was, as just about every time she's filmed she is a nervous wreck going through what could only be decribed as a post mid-life crisis (she's 50)
I also have a headcanon that after Casita was reformed their powers also got shifted slightly since it was stated her mood changed the weather, so now she may just have control without the caveat of having to be stressed or sad for rain.. and I just hope Delores can hear things normally and doesn't have to always be hearing every single thing..
Pepa and Isabella do the same dance, I donât remember when Isabella does the same dance, but Iâm pretty sure it was around the beginning when Mirabel was carrying around that big basket.
This is Colombia, the cat is a jaguar. Tigers and leopards are not from South America. The animals in Antonio's menagerie include tapirs, coatis, hummingbirds, capybara, toucans.
the people who killed abuelo pedro werent spaniards, they were actually colombian soldiers :( it was based off of colombian internal conflicts like la violencia, where over 200k civilians were killed by soldiers and guerillas
Sheesh, thatâs rough but thanks for imparting this knowledge on us. That explains the guerrilla tactics we seen in Abuela Almaâs âDos Orugitasâ flashback.
@@Ojhe Just to clarify, it was not guerrilas and soldiers. That is BS. The Violencia was around 1948 and it was liberals vs conservatives killing each other because of political differences.
They werenât soldiers, la violencia consisted of conflict between liberales and conservadores (2 political groups), and well the differences escalated pretty quickly. Basically the country was divided in the 2 political parties, so the soldiers didnt kill each other, literally the civilians kill and fought each other
@@withien7554 he is not saying guerillas were involved, he said guerilla tactics were involved, which at the time was pretty common for campesinos to use those tactics as they didnât have proper training
Mirabel is the next candle holder btw that's why she didn't get a power. I'm guessing Casita chooses who from each generation will be the next leader and doesn't assign that person any power because they are the magic
@@Ojhe Yes if you notice she has the butterflies and a candle in her dress like abuela. She also has a representation of each members power in her dress so she is the magic holder. Ex the rainbow, the flowers, ect. Also great reaction :)
Did you realize Abuelo seems to be some sort of a town leader? He was leading the townsfolk fleeing the village, he was the one carrying the light, and he decided to stay and try to reason with the pursuers. He didn't went down his knees to beg, nor did he raised a fist to threat, neither tried to attack in some way; he faced them with his hands up and empty as he spoke to them. That would explain why he didn't just ran and hide with his family, and also why he was killed on the spot. It also gives more sense to Abuela's attitude towards the town and the way the gifts were to be used.
Marianos resemblance to Pedro (he looks like a buffer version) and Isabella resemblance to young Abuela is the reason Abuela is pushing this engagement so hard. She sees herself and her lost husband in them and is trying to live vicariously through them the perfect life that was stolen from her.
@@a.g.demada5263 I doubt she's doing it consciously. More than likely she didn't push Julietta for it because there wasn't any Mariano look alike. Even then Augustin does look somewhat similar to Pedro, though nowhere near as similar as Mariano does.

Hundreds of people, mainly from rural areas in Colombia have been displaced by violence generated among the guerrillas, paramilitary groups and the government. Hundreds of people. I cried unconsolably when saw Disney decided to include this in the movie. Too many memories.
I just realized, mirabel's "gift" is everything she said in "waiting on a miracle" song She says "I would move the mountains" and at the end we see her moving away the family's problems which is alot making it a "mountain of problems" Then the new flowers or smt, she was able to convince isabela that she doesnt need to be perfect and stuff and isabela grew plants she didnt even knew she could grow "Heal what's broken" she "healed" or rebuilt the broken home and the broken family Then the "show this family something new", she showed the family that they don't have to always rely on their gifts, but with eachother. Thank you for reading if u read it
In result her gift is the Casita itself (she relates to it the most and treats it with the most respect compared to the others). With the power of Casita, she can also relate to her families powers a bit more without actually having them. Of course if there is a second movie, theyâll probably go more in depth with her âgiftâ!!!
For the moving mountains part, she literally moved the mountains that were blocking away where Abuelo died. When the house was falling apart, you could see the mountains being cracked and split into two. When Mirabel and Alma made up, the mountains stayed apart and left a pathway to where they could visit the place again. Going back to that place was where abuela got to face her trauma and move on, before that the mountains blocked it to help her ignore the pain.
Even tho Delores hints that she hears Bruno, I do find it curious that she still kept it a secret. My theory as to why she didnât keep Mirabelâs secret is because she wanted to ruin the proposal. She knew it would, everyone knew it would as soon as they found out. She started the worst game of telephone. Everyone else wouldâve been worried about ruining the night, but she doesnât want to see the man she loves propose to her -sister- cousin. (Edit: cousin not sister lol)
Uhhhh coold theory!,but I'm pretty sure, when Dolores hited Camilo in the line "i knew he never left i heard him everyday" was more of a "I TOLD YOU SO", she probably told them and they just, didn't believe, so she saved it
@@nuggetsplace8273 I didnât really take it as an I told you so. Like I said, she hinted at hearing him plenty so maybe in that sense, but I really donât think she ever outright said âI can hear Bruno, heâs in the wallsâ

So I believe I heard that Abeula doesnât have a gift. Sheâs kind of the leader of the family and it is believed that Mirabel doesnât have a gift because now the house is tied to her and she is the leader, hence why she is able to bring the family together, and the house moves to her will more than anyone throughout the movie, when it helped her get the candle and pushed the family out etc.
"What is that leopard using for sustenance?" THANK YOU! That's what I've been asking! If the jaguar isn't allowed to eat the rats, then what is it ( and any other carnivores in Antonio's room) allowed to eat?
the elderly animals? if not his gift is gonna get dark quick i actually theorized if the family had remained the same Antonio would have to close his heart to "control" his animals or be blamed for what they do imagine Antonio becoming like a drill Sargent to them and making them work hard to keep up with those expectations it would have broke my heart.
@@count-countess8464 I mean, you right... Good thing (and someone pointed this out to me literally earlier today) Antonio never looks to Abuela for validation. He only looks to Mirabel.
Colombia has a long history of civil uprest, whether it was La violencia (the violence) which as was from 1948 to 1958 or the other civil wars known as the colombian conflict , which had 2 parts, the cold war from 1964 -1992 and then the war on drugs which started in 1993 and continues to this day. A lot of the small towns are attacked by militias and different political factions that causes so many deaths and forces people to leave their region to another one (an internal immigration). The story of abuela is a more common one, and hence many latinos have years of generational trauma woven within their family structure. It's considered an open joke that in this movie of magical realism the really unbelievable thing is that abuela recognized her role and apologized to mirabel and the rest of her family, not all stories end this happily but most of us are really have these talks are finally starting again. Thank you so much for covering this movie, your reactions were great! Dolores hinted throughout the whole movie that Bruno was still there, this movie has a lot of subtlty and makes you really think. Also fun fact: during Dolores part in "We don't talk about bruno" you can see bruno creeping around in the background in the 2nd floor. I also really enjoyed the fact that everyone was yelling at Mirabel to get out of the house when it was crumbling down, proving how much they valued her life over the magic. Aparently one of the producers on twitter said Camilo was trying to reach Mirabel before he lost his powers (same with Isabela). Thanks again!! This was lots of fun!
Thanks for the historical context! And yeah even as Carribean myself I can slightly relate to the idea of abuela or even any elder in the family owning up to their part in all of this and apologizing was wild đ. Itâs good it sparked the discussions again for the Latinos that saw the movie haha! And yeah I rewatched the movie today and I saw Bruno running around in we donât talk about bruno! It was quite the surprise haha! Itâs wild how much Dolores hinting at Bruno still being there throughout the movie flew over our heads. Thanks for watching!
Do you think this movie being popular helps open up that talk with some families with generational trauma? I loved the fact that Bruno was bobbing his head to the very song that demonized him. I love how each major member had their own personal things too. The pressure to carry everything, the one who hears, but is unheard, the one who's held to the status of perfection. I really think this movie can help many people feel like they're understood
As for who the attackers were, there was a period in Columbian history (in the 1900s, so appropriate to the timeline for this being set now) where the political landscape included encouraging people to go and violently attack communities who supported the opposing party. So, the attackers would (in all probability) have been part of that whole struggle. My favorite theory is that Mirabel's gift all along was to be the successor embodiment of the miracle and to be Abuela's successor in the end. She's the one that interacts most actively with the house (and the only one other than Abuela who really talks to it), her doorknob at the end being what brings the house back to life, and even the fact that her emotional state was directly tied in with the cracks forming in the house. I also like the theory that Peppa's wedding going to a complete storm was partly Abuela's fault, because she just busted out the umbrellas, rather than showing confidence in her daughter's ability to calm herself down, and that wordless lack of confidence was part of what made a bad situation worse.
Thanks for the historical context and yup Mirabel is definitely the successor! And that's a cool theory I haven't heard of yet, it would make sense though, it probably stressed Pepa out even further!
Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.
Abuela isn't being shady. All her actions and words are motivated by how she views the candle as the only thing keeping them safe. She and the community live in constant fear
48:36 about this. They are not colonizers, they are "PARAMILITARES" they are the cause of the armed conflict in Colombia for decades causing massacres and forced displacement. This is why the miracle was born as a sign of hope and protection for Colombian families who have suffered loss (like Alma and Pedro).
So... the event Abuela Alma faced was said in an interview or a featurette to be based off iirc the 1900s conflict in Colombia called the Thousand Days war.
@@Ojhe to be fair that was what I thought too. I was marathoning a bunch of the behind the scenes/interviews/featurettes and that was mentioned in one of them and I had to go look it up cause I've never even heard of it.
-This is Disney Animations film not a Pixar. So can't add it to the tally. -Also y'all keep saying the house is doing her dirty. The house is a part of the miracle it is not in charge if it. Basically it was given a gift the same as the family.
Haha we realized it wasnât a Pixar film in the discussion đ. And we were mostly referring to how Casita didnât corroborate the stuff Mirabel was seeing, but I guess only Mirabel actually saw it happening so I suppose it makes sense đ
Whaddayamean, 'almost'? I bawl my eyes out everytime the candle flutters out, everytime we get Bruno's vantage point, and everytime we get Abuela Alma's back story in its raw, naked form.
The guys who attacked Alma and Pedro at the beginning were supposed to represent La Violencia, that happened on Colombia last century. The colonization happened so many centuries before
Omg can you react to an anime movie called âa silent voiceâ itâs basically about bullying and stuff it has a beautiful message and ugh it hits the feels đ I loved your reaction! đ
Abuela and Mirabel are the guardians of the magic. Since Abuela is still alive Casita can't make a door for her because her door will be Abuelas door (my running theory is Casita can't make/give the same door/magic at the same time. So if another healer js born they won't have their power or door until the current one is gone). Casita is breaking not only because of the problems in the family but because it is literally being torn in half between its two caretakers.
she didnât have a door cause her gift was the whole house đ We donât talk about Bruno passed let it go. I donât care for frozen and never seen it. My daughter saw Encanto in her school and she loves it, so I just watched it Thursday.
i thought that horse men were spaniards too but i heard they are symbolizing the recent problems colombia has had also pbs has something abt a lil bronx kidđ
The only thing I hate about Encanto reactions is how everyone is like "WeLl, mAybE hEr giFt iS..." No. She DOESN'T HAVE ONE. DEAL WITH IT. Why is it so hard for people to grasp the concept of a main character being just an ordinary person? The movie is trying to say that not having a gift is ok, yet fans are trying to make every stupid crap her gift, because they want her to have one soooo bad. We didn't understand the assignment guys. đ€Łđ€Ł
I get the frustration but none of us insinuated she needed a gift to be special đ In fact we said her being ordinary is what made her special đ. Unless youâre just venting your frustration with the fandom in general then by all means đđŸ.
This was made by Disney itself, not Pixar Studios. People have always gotten this mixed up ever since they transitioned to CGI. If it doesn't have the Pixar logo in the beginning, it's Disney.
The war you saw is the war of 1000 days between liberales an conservatives, the came in to the towns depending on the polĂtica party and we still have the same social situaciĂłn in the rural ĂĄrea by the guerrillas
Wrong. This shows the conflict probably between guerrillas, paramilitary groups and even the government. The 1000 days war took place in 1899-1902. The accordion didn't make it to Colombia until early 1920's.

Isaâs song is also really underrated tho it had to⊠grow on me
@@beyondviolet Haha... grow on you... good pun! â€
The people that attacked Abuelaâs village were actually other Columbians as she was living around the time of the Thousand Day War (a civil war) and we only really know that because Encantoâs more modern setting takes place around 1950, I believe.
colombians
Itâs COLOMBIANS not Columbians
Pepa and Isabella do the same dance, I donât remember when Isabella does the same dance, but Iâm pretty sure it was around the beginning when Mirabel was carrying around that big basket.
âBruno living like a discord modâ got me so bad HAHAHAHAH

the people who killed abuelo pedro werent spaniards, they were actually colombian soldiers :( it was based off of colombian internal conflicts like la violencia, where over 200k civilians were killed by soldiers and guerillas
Sheesh, thatâs rough but thanks for imparting this knowledge on us. That explains the guerrilla tactics we seen in Abuela Almaâs âDos Orugitasâ flashback.
@@Ojhe Just to clarify, it was not guerrilas and soldiers. That is BS. The Violencia was around 1948 and it was liberals vs conservatives killing each other because of political differences.
đ¶đĄ not true. La Violencia fue en 1948 y fue entre liberales y conservadores matĂĄndose por sus diferencias polĂticas.
That... actually makes so much sense haha, for awhile I though Casita was Abuelaâs power.
@@Ojhe Yes if you notice she has the butterflies and a candle in her dress like abuela. She also has a representation of each members power in her dress so she is the magic holder. Ex the rainbow, the flowers, ect. Also great reaction :)
Ahhhhhh I didnât even notice!!! Iâm gonna rewatch this movie so many times now đđâŒïž and thanks!
@@Ojhe if you notice the parallels too, with the Casita waving at her exactly like it did with Abeula in the beginning.
That makes sense. I always wondered why he in particular turned to face the attackers.
Ahhhh that makes a lot more sense, really explains his actions and why Abuela felt the need to do what she did.
Marianos resemblance to Pedro (he looks like a buffer version) and Isabella resemblance to young Abuela is the reason Abuela is pushing this engagement so hard. She sees herself and her lost husband in them and is trying to live vicariously through them the perfect life that was stolen from her.
@@sakbromely yes, exactly but I wonder why she didn't do the same with Julieta who's the only triplets who looks like her
@@a.g.demada5263 I doubt she's doing it consciously.

Damn, best of wishes to you and I'm glad this movie was able to shine a light on such things.
I just realized, mirabel's "gift" is everything she said in "waiting on a miracle" song
She says "I would move the mountains" and at the end we see her moving away the family's problems which is alot making it a "mountain of problems"
Then the new flowers or smt, she was able to convince isabela that she doesnt need to be perfect and stuff and isabela grew plants she didnt even knew she could grow
"Heal what's broken" she "healed" or rebuilt the broken home and the broken family
Then the "show this family something new", she showed the family that they don't have to always rely on their gifts, but with eachother. Thank you for reading if u read it
Oh wow, that's a very deep cut, I didn't even think about all that! You're 100% right!
@@Ojhe lmao and i get you, crying for a house đ

Ha ha yeah we saw it in the credits, made 100% more sense after that đ€Ł!
Most of the cast is of Colombian descent. The artist who sings "Dos Oruguitas" is from Colombia. No one is from Spain, however.
Ahhh okay, clears a lot of things up thank you!
You need an âOh, hell no,â counter.

the elderly animals? if not his gift is gonna get dark quick
i actually theorized if the family had remained the same Antonio would have to close his heart to "control" his animals or be blamed for what they do imagine Antonio becoming like a drill Sargent to them and making them work hard to keep up with those expectations it would have broke my heart.
Calling Bruno a discord mod is probably the worst he's gotteh LMAO
Coming here again to say Iâve been addicted to the soundtrack to this movie in Spanish and EnglishâŒïžđđđ
Heck yea!!!
Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.
That makes 1000% more sense, didn't even think about it all like that!
the candle couldnt go out in any way, but the only way it went out was when the house was breaking meaning the magic was fading along with the candle
Abuela isn't being shady. All her actions and words are motivated by how she views the candle as the only thing keeping them safe. She and the community live in constant fear

about this.

1:18:18 - 1:18:23 Apart from the expositional thing I said,I don't like it when in a movie there are too many characters or potentially interesting stuff that you don't get the time to know deeply. It happened here,in"Big Hero 6"and in"Raya and the Last Dragon".You should have a _TV show_ for this kind of stories, not a single movie.Every character from this movie was very memorable and distinguishable from the others, but they were all pretty superficial. You know that Luisa is strong and that she's been asking to work too hard and that's it. You know that Pepa is a nervous person and that everytime she's nervous she makes it rain and that's it. You know that Antonio is adorable and likes animals and that's it.Even Mirabel, who is the main character..what do you really know about her? She's selfless, feels useless because she doesn't have a magic power and tries to overcompensate. And that's pretty much it.IT'S NOT ENOUGH!Those aren't characters, they're DRAFTS of characters!!!
I always thought encanto meant "love" that's why lol - Ojhe
We're semi familiar with the (ita-ito) and a decent amount of the Spanish present because we live in NY so it's kind of a necessity lol.
And yeah with time you definitely come to appreciate the other songs more, I wasn't really feeling Mirabel's first two songs but I actually really like them now. Same with Dos Orugitas.
Ha ha on second thought you're definitely right on the songs being expositional. I guess we just got caught up in all of it that it felt more dynamic.
And yeah, we hate getting introduced to such a colorful cast of characters because a movie only has so much runtime to develop everyone, a show is always preferrable for big casts imo.
And we'll definitely be checking out Coco very soon thank you for your wonderful comment!
@@Ojhe I'm familiar with Spanish because I'm Italian and 90% of the words sound similar đ€Ł and other words(like abuela)I've learned them from songs, movies or TV shows.đđđ€â€
The guts here don't understand abuela says give us the candle that didn't die...
Columbia has had near constant revolutions and civil wars for over the past 100 years, along with constant refugees being displaced back and forth across the country. This could have happened in any of those conflicts.

Encanto isnât Pixar. Itâs 100% Disney Animation Studios. But if you still havenât seen any Pixar, time to FIX THAT! Lol
Ok maribel's gift is not Casita or Encanto maribel's gift is that she became in the end the magical candle replacement she embodied the magical candle that gave her family their gifts and brought Casita alive that is why when she put the door knob on the door of the house Casita came back alive and her family got their gift back because Maribel became the miracle candle if you also noticed in the end song her family saying that they see how brightly she Burns like the candle and her uncle Bruno said that she is the true miracle
The M stands for Maribel and madrigal she's what keeps the house together she's their doorknob
It reminds me when Isabela told her she's always in the way but it's also thanks to the middle pillar (the one on our way) if a building can stay still
Ita suposed to be after the Colombian civil warb
