  • G'day guys, today we are reacting to Sabaton for the first time singing Night Witches. This was such a great song we went straight into Bismarck. I loved this, reminded me of a combination of Nightwish and Rammstein.

Sabaton is a swedish metal band, who sings about historical war episodes. "Night Witches" for example is about a russian group of female bomber pilots (Regiment 188) at world war two, who was called "Nachthexen" by the germans, because they came always at night and were difficult to detect. That songs are all tributes to the mostly untold storys of soldiers, whos done extraordinaire deeds. They do this, because no one else do it. By the way, the drummer is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish.

Some more info on why they were called the night witches. They switched off their engines as they were coming in for the bombing, so all you would hear is a loud howl as they passed by.

    - Last Stand
    - Wolfpack
    - Resist and Bite
    - Carolean's Prayer
    - Hearts of Iron
    - Blood of Bannockburn
    - the Last Battle
    - Shiroyama
    - a Ghost in the Trenches
    - Screaming Eagles
    - To Hell and Back
    - Great War
    ...or basically anything else Sabaton

You just watched military history clash head first into heavy metal. From Sabatons site: The story of the Russian female pilots of the 588:th bomber regiment. Their nickname “Night Witches” comes from the characteristic sound of their bomb planes that was all that could be heard during their nightly raids since they set their engines to idle and would glide through the night to their target. This sound brought the enemies thoughts to the broomsticks of witches, and they called them “Nachthexen”.
Huge Sabaton fan. Say them last November with Hammerfall. OUTSTANDING show. Have ticket for September with Priest but I think covid going to screw that up.

Before lock down Sabaton, Apocalyptica and Amaranthe were touring through Europe together. As I'm sure others will note the drummer is married to Floor Jansen. BTW, Amaranthe has dropped some new music recently. Most recently is the song Viral but before that Do or Die with Angela Gossow the former lead singer of Arch Enemy. Besides doing this song with them she is also the manager for both Amaranthe and Arch Enemy.
As to Sabaton itself they are one of the better European bands and you get an excellent history lesson in every song. They also have a channel called Sabaton History with more background information on the subjects of their music.

My personal favorites are Ghost Division, 40:1, Price of a mile, Primo Victoria, and about every other song by Sabaton.
They also have another favorite of mine, which always bring me to tears; Final Solution. It's about people being sent to Auschwitz, being killed and burned.... It's a powerful song, and it hits you like a sledgehammer to the chest, just like it should....

  • @AGDinCA

Mix between Nightwish and Rammstein? Yeah, that's a pretty good observation. These guys are so amazing live! I got to see them in Los Angeles last year. Definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They have a tank on stage and the drum kit sits on top. How cool is that?
I suggest the following Sabaton songs:
    Great War - czcams.com/video/HkbG39-T4H0/video.html
    Fields of Verdun - czcams.com/video/xP8G-LwWNn0/video.html
    Red Baron - czcams.com/video/1snEYPg8TXs/video.html
    Ghost Division - czcams.com/video/Q6D-VcTB28o/video.html
I could keep going, but it will get overwhelming... LOL

Floor wears a t-shirt which reads "My man has a tank"... and her niece, Rose (Irene's daughter), has one which reads "My uncle has a tank"..... The proof is in this live version of Night Witches...... Good comparison Nightwish+Rammstein...... Notice the engraved compass held by the Skipper of Primo Victoria (the boat - and also another Sabaton song)?... Survivor of the Bismarck!... A sabaton was the armour worn on the foot of a mounted knight..... same origin as saboteur - a "shoe thrower" LOL!

  • @ryanbiks5386
    @ryanbiks5386 Před 4 lety +2

Something I enjoy about Sabaton is that their songs are portrayed from the perspectives of military groups and heroes all over the world and its timeline, from Feudal Japan to uprisings in Scotland and Brazil to each of the major powers involved in the World Wars -- including a song or two about prisoners of concentration camps working in secret to save one another. They could do a better job covering some notable groups, but in general, Sabaton wishes to honor deeds of valor and heroism at wartime (they also sing about raw might, if only because it's awe-inspiring in some capacity). At the end of the day, each soldier is a human capable of virtue or evil regardless of whom they fight for or the ideals that machine promotes, and Sabaton tries to sing the tales that highlight that humanity, especially at its best.
Also, their drummer is Floor Jansen's husband! I remember when the news broke that my favorite band's singer was marrying my second-favorite band's drummer.... lol, that was a neat surprise.

Sabaton also has a youtube history channel where they talk about the story that inspired their songs and tidbits about the song. Want more maybe try "40:1" from woodstock (Poland Rocks), or "Winged Hussars". "82nd All the Way" is also great although I personally like Amaranthe's cover of it better. Also they have one song about Australian Corporal Leslie "Bull" Allen called "The Ballad of Bull" I don't believe it has ever been performed live. They have been in contact with some of Bulls descendants and hope to perform it form them the next time they get to Australia.

Great reaction. Sabaton is awesome live. I am happy that i could see them at W:O:A 2019 (Wacken Open Air) playing and celebrating with a choir at their 20th anniversary on BOTH mainstages simultaneously . On the "Faster"- stage the current lineup played and on "Harder"-stage some former bandmembers joined them. My suggestions for more Sabaton are:
    - "Ghost Division" live at Woodstock 2012 czcams.com/video/9FkYxnm70vg/video.html about the 7th Panzerdivision of the german Wehrmacht which moved so fast, that sometimes even the german commanders did not know where they were and surprised the enemy and german high command with sudden appearances in unsuspected areas.
    - "40:1" live at woodstock 2012 czcams.com/video/Ty-4jk93FrE/video.html about a polish unit with only 720 soldiers, who held the german attackers of 40.000 soldiers for three days.
    Oh, i almost forgot one
    - "Swedish Pagans" from Wacken 2019 czcams.com/video/NWnuSZ5pwNA/video.html with a special guest

They do not celebrate war or sides what they do is sing about the brave soldiers that are fighting for there country no mater what country it is. So you’ll hear songs about German soldiers and British soldiers and Russian soldiers all in the same album. And the first song night witches is one of my favorites from them but honestly I could say all there’s songs are fantastic! Glad to see you like them and hope to see more of them in your channel.
