      You’re calling them childish and asinine just because they cried about an airline shutting down?
      I know people who are 25-35 who literally cried when one of Sydney’s train classes retired for good. Both of them pretty irrational, but both perfectly fine ways to deal with an something important to them and having an emotional loss.

    I and my family use Flybe regularly from Belfast City airport. Even on journeys to Australia our journeys have started and ended with Flybe as we connect either through Heathrow or Manchester. Always found their staff to be kind and helpful. The only criticism was their very tight restriction on cabin bags fitting completely into those bag measuring cages but I suppose they were trying to increase their revenue. I'm under the flight path and I heard the last one fly over last night and it's very quiet here today. Hopefully the staff can find jobs elsewhere but at the moment it doesn't look good.

    Thanks for the video. I was working for Flybe when we went into administration. A very, very sad and also stressful time for everyone who worked for the airline. There are sadly multiple legacy issues that have accumulated over the last ten years that have not helped us. I would just say that the shear hard work and determination of everyone who worked either on the aircraft or supported the aircraft in the background did their very best with the resources available, which at times were limited. We are holding our heads high, knowing that we gave our all to fly people safely to wherever they were heading, whether it be a business trip, a weekend away or seeing friends and relatives. Truly connecting the communities of the UK and I along with my friends and colleagues are truly proud of serving them and I would like to thank anyone reading this who have flown with us for doing so, it was much appreciated and we shall miss you.

  • @user-ot4wm2fh8g
    @user-ot4wm2fh8g Před 4 lety +1

    The worst thing about this is not necessarily the airline itself.
    Flybe is the main airline to operate between smaller airports in the UK. There’s now going to be a serious lack of domestic air transport options for many smaller airports in the UK like Belfast City, Exeter, Aberdeen, Southampton etc.
    And it’s not just the airline that’s at risk now. Both Belfast City and Exeter had nearly exclusively Flybe flights operating from them. With its collapse they have like 2-3 flights a day total operating at them. The staff at the airports may lose their jobs too

That being said, this is a blow for us all, not just finacially or from a career progression perspective. It was an awesome place to work with amazing people. Regionals in the U.S. typically do better than in Europe. In Europe, travel on an airline is mainly centered around vacationing or "holiday" travel as they would call it. In the U.S. it's centered more around business travel. In Europe there are "seasons" for travelers, where in the U.S., people are traveling a lot more consistently. I saw an interesting video about the differences, but cant remember who made it. If Im not mistaken, Breeze is going to be based in KSLC, my home airport. I'm curious how they will compete with Delta.

    Mixed feelings they were OK, they took over routes from BMI Baby and BA regional as I recall, used them a lot from BHX EMA and no horror stories but check in on line could be frustrating particularly with code share flights, rage quit a number of times only to loose seat choice when arriving at the airport without a boarding card. Staff always seemed nice and their drivers did some super good landings in some vicious cross winds

    Just down to lousy management. I used to use flybe a lot before the takeover by Virgin and partners (5-6 flights per month). After that - only one flight, due to large price increases and restrictive baggage rules brought in making them uncompetitive on the routes that I used.

    While it certainly is bad news and a difficult time for FLYBe employees, it does open up opportunities for new entities to step in and and offer a service. With the Dash-8 having just been relaunched by the new de Havilland Canada company (after being abandonned by Bombardier), it is sad to see the failure of one of the largest Dash-8-400 customers (if not the largest). A glut of Dash-8s won't help with sales of new aircraf=t for the new company.
    Hoping someone picks them up during asset sale without any of Flybe's debts and starts a new regional carrier to replace it. In Canada, even Westjet, which has an "all 737" philosophy ended up buying some for thinner routes. So I would hope larger British carriers might see some opportunity.

      BA / IAG will just buy up the assets if that happens. They were looking to buy them but the CEO got too big headed so WW walked away and now they will let them collapse then just buy up whats left instead unless they can get a good enough rescue deal.
      The above is all IF of course

    Sad to see any airline collapse but tough business especially with lowered demand. Good luck for employees with either other carriers and or other career fields. I think we will see a downlink effect across the industry with hiring freezes at minimum. Hopefully no layoffs but I suspect medium to long term hiring freezes for all aviation career fields, especially commercial carriers and not only UK but worldwide. The international demand way down which feeds airlines to domestic routes but if nothing in then nothing out.
    I speak domestic routes as a general term as in US carriers to Europe, the inter country (uK-UK, DE-DE or FR-FR etc...)European flights become domestic. Same as foreign carriers to US. Good luck!

    It's a sad day but unfortunately Flybe's demise has been on the cards for some time, they simply grew too fast too quickly which put the company in a vulnerable position. Spare a thought for airlines which are currently dealing with the Boeing 737 MAX debacle, the Coronavirus emergency will inject further financial stress into an already stressful situation.
