  • Called out for no cooling, found the defrost board not passing voltage on to contactor. I bypassed board, and charged system. Also I show a terribly designed air handler. #hvac #hvaclife #fieldpiece #makita #aspen

    I didn't watch all of this yet but I wanted to add my experience before I forget. I've changed a couple or 3 of these boards only to find out the low pressure switch wires have worn through somewhere. (Which can knock the board out) I've had one pressure switch to open permanently. If that wire is open or grounded it will not turn on the contactor. You might have already figured it out since I didn't have time to watch the whole video

    I really liked my Mantooth probes because I could add refrigerant if needed unfortunately the charging port broke. Fieldpiece and Testo if you are listening... I carry this board as a replacement 47D01U-843 Universal Heat Pump

      I used to use a swivel T with my suction probe, but for some reason it charged extremely slow.

    So the defrost board has a high and low pressure cut-off switch. Will the board stop the voltage for any other reason if it is working properly, or are those the only two things that will stop the voltage?

    Those defrost boards seem to have a high failure rate. I believe Aspen Mfg is based in Humble, TX and has been making HVAC coils for a long time. Those Aspen coils were quite popular in Houston for replacement jobs when I was in the HVAC business back in the 80’s. Those coils were dirt cheap back in those days.

    How come the 2nd pressure switch was getting 0 volts as closed? Wouldn’t it be 24 volts? I assumed that if it was zero there would be no power running to it. Can you please explain. Thanks!

    Mine says 30, 60, 90 then the 2 pin test. I moved the cover up one and the red light on board turned off. I plugged fuse back in an it kicked right on

    Those Goodman defrost boards fail alot. Also this unit is got a bunch of garbage around it. Since it's a heat pump it needs to be sitting on risers so it can drain properly when it defrosts.

  • @melissachartres3219

    Okay... I'm confused. 09:28 I thought that the suction line WAS the liquid line and that the discharge line was the gas line. What am i missing?

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  Před 2 lety +1

      On a heat pump the small line is always the liquid line, hot gas comes from the compressor, so in cooling it goes to condenser to become liquid m and in heating it goes out the big line to evaporator to become liquid. So big line can be suction or hot gas depending on the season.

    • @edwardgarza5104
      @edwardgarza5104 Před 2 lety

      @@HVACGUY so the big line is always a high pressure vapor or low pressure vapor on heat pump. Small line will always be a high pressure liquid?
