Seeing F1 legends being blatently disrespected on the grid is unacceptable. Sir Jackie is F1 royalty.
Couldn't agree with this more. It was really uncomfortable viewing and not a pleasant side of the 'new' F1

Jackie Stewart crossing the rope line, confronting security, grabbing Federer, then Russell getting involved was epic. Some the greatest bit of live TV I have ever seen. It was a fantastic scene. I was yelling at the security guards, through the tv, “that’s Jackie Stewart! You are all there because of him! He’s F1 royalty!”.
Martin’s grid walks are the best!
Finally, writing as an American, we care much less about celebrity culture than what is presented. Celebrity culture has a place in our history but it seems to me it is not as important to us today. We are not as impressed with celebrity as the marketing folks would like to believe.
Kudos to George for helping out, Sir Jackie.

This really angered me. Any Grand Prix where a three-time F1 champion and the driving force behind improved driver safety is NOT considered a VIP is disgusting. Whoever is responsible for thsi should be ashamed. Well done Sir Jackie for taking things into his own hands and well done Martin for keeping your composure in what must have been a worrying/concerning/awkward situation.
He is VIP, otherwise he wouldn't be on the race grid, also he's there not in capacity on behalf of F1/FIA , but as BA for Rolex. I don't see any problem with the security, he did his job. He's not gonna be familiar with everyone especially guarding figure like Federer who's definitely has attended many function and event and around many people on daily basis. His task is to protect his assets and he has done so wonderfully
Also great to hear stories about Jackie - what a legend. Not only was he a multiple F1 champion but he also raced in multiple Indy 500s along with other greats like Graham Hill and Jim Clark. He also raced the CanAm sportscar monsters when they were the most powerful cars in the world, heck he even tried NASCAR. So cool!!
At the time they raced everything because the money wasn't finding its way to the drivers. The ones who were risking everything!
I think when there are security at f1 events with celebrities, the security needs to look up who the interviewers are like Martin, they look him up and see "oh this British interviewer is a former racing driver of the sport we are at and does grid walks talking to the other drivers and the celebs and isn't going to cause any trouble" and let Martin talk to that celebritie cause Martin isn't going to take up a lot of their time, that is what US security guards needs to learn in my opinion, Martin is a legend of doing the grid walks and why F1 fans live it before the race
But some of the celebs aren't there on a promo event, so are looking to not do interviews.
All the people attending have the right to refuse interviews if they don't want to.
Look at the Williams sisters. They refuse interviews because they know nothing about f1 and looked completely stupid last time they did one 😆
Some of them are there to get noticed for a promo or Instagram and have no clue, some are there by invitation, and also have no clue, and some are actually fans with decent passes but are there to enjoy it without the hassle.
Security guy is just doing the job he's been paid/asked to do. Doesn't matter who has the mic in their hand
@@grandmasterj5 I thought F1 recently changed the rules to something along the lines of "if you're on the grid then you're expected to engage with grid walk interviews etc, if approached. This was as a direct result on what happened previously in Texas.
@@grandmasterj5 Yes in way there aren't there to do an event or promo but they still will post on the IG accounts. They may be guests but they also know the F1 media will interview them. They could just say they're having a great time and good luck to all the drivers. Come on! They know how this works.
I don't expect security details to know about every person, especially if they're guarding notable figures which definitely met many people from different background on daily basis. It's not his fault to not know who Jackie is, his job is to protect his asset and he has done so

I have said it before and I'll say it again. I'm tired of seeing these celebrities that have nothing to do with F1 getting special treatments while the real F1 legends get treated like they are nobody's. F1 needs to fix this.
Sadly this seems to be the future of F1. I'm surprised team personnel are allowed near the cars. Celebs will soon have priority.
Martin is also a national treasure. He is almost the last true piece of the old f1 left. I've watched him since I was a baby

Great work by Jackie and good decision by Martin and the Sky producers to stick with talking to Federer instead of cutting over to the start of the silly Miami driver intros.
As a motorsports fan I would have been more interested in an interview with racing royalty than a tennis or pop celebrity
As an American, I was embarrassed that EVERYONE, most of all event security, wasn't made aware of Sir Jackie Stewart, and his legendary status in F1. That was like watching a retired John Madden, questioned and denied access to the Superbowl. But then again the American generation in charge of things now days only knows hip hop and Tik Tok videos. I'm surprised they even knew who Roger was. These are the sorts of things that give us bad stereotypes. smh At least Jackie had the balls to get it done anyway. Good for him.
Here's an idea Sky F1. Don't give those "A listers" ANY coverage during the grid walks. They rarely offer any insight of substance and it's primarily an ego trip for them. Spend those precious minutes talking to the drivers (current or retired) , team leaders or mechanics etc.

Well if l'm half as alert and fit as Sir Jackie at 83 then l'll feel blessed . I could feel Martin's angst ......"oh no ! What have l done ! " Unfortunately l've had to put Sky f1 on hold for now . Martins grid chat can at times be more exciting than the race ! Thankyou Martin .

Love Jackie he's F1 Royalty how those security guys not know or allow at first is beyond me, mind you he was winning races when I was little. 3 times world champ, won loads of races, ran a team how could they stop him.
Martin is such a sincere man- I recall a sit down interview w seb and thinking what a thoughtful and open soul- the grid walk would be so difficult and it is always a work of art- few people could pull it off - pure class

Sir Jackie Stewart is a Formula 1 treasure. I was and still am so upset how he was treated. Shame on F1 for treating celebs so much better than their legends. I met Jackie twice, so gracious .
I feel bad for the drivers, teams, media and people who are actually on the grid to do a job, who have to contend with preparing for an intense race and shaking hands with all these celebs...they should limit entry honestly. It's a circus show.
Sir Jackie Stewart is a bona fide leg end.
He did so much to improve safety for F1 drivers in an era when the drivers seemed to be viewed as expendable.
Plus he said something once which could be the best bit of advice ever given to a driver;
"Never get on the gas until you know that you never have to get off the gas again".
I do a bit of tarmac rallying and that quote is always in my head at every corner/split/merge/junction.
Las Vegas is going to be another clown show too , Austin seems to be getting better but the F1 chiefs don’t care about our royalties in the sport cause if they did we wouldn’t have these Mickey Mouse venues but bring back the original tracks that are sorely missed

I respect the guy. Years ago, when Stewart GP existed, I was on a pit walkabout, and all the teams has barriers about 15 feet in front of their cars - Jackie Stewart himself came out and asked if people wanted to come and have a look in the garage! He said we could take pictures, but NOT of the car’s engine/rear end. Lovely bloke.

Sir Jackie is one of those who paved the way to what F1 has become today. He was racing in a time where F1 drivers were risking their lives racing. A legend should be respected when he’s still alive not after he passed away.

Last weekend was great Vin Bio-fuel ( Diesel ) and Michelle Rodriguez were lots of fun and very accommodating . Banchero was also very cool and the tenacious Sir Jackie (Russell) Stewart was the icing on the cake

I'm a little upset that the legend of Formula 1 isn't respected on the Formula 1 grid. Celebs are great but in Formula 1 they are all just guests. At least they should think about who deserves the best there.

@@raytrevor1 They should be there as it’s part of the glamour of the sport. However they shouldn’t be dictating who goes near them, the bodyguards need to go when they are on the grid before there is real trouble.

F1 is too much of a media circus these days, it's all about getting celebrities being seen there, and most of these celebs know nothing about motor racing, they are just there for their appearance fee and any freebies they can blag, this has been shown when Martin does his grid walk, they either won't talk to him or have no answers to the question's he asks

It's a game of who is going to be rude to Martin first at some of these grid walks, fair play to him for putting up with it but I guess it gets the clicks and the eyes on so it serves a purpose and we all remember Malfoy. I'd love to see Crofty blundering about on the grid walk and give Martin the commentating role during the race instead.

No reason for these 'celebs' to have bouncers on the grid, its already the most exclusive area during the entire GP weekend. Actually there is no reason for celebs to be on the grid at all, especially when many have no respect for the rich history of F1. Only journalist, drivers and team members needed to start-up the cars are needed on the grid.
Federer told online that some fan asking him for a picture thinking it was Nadal. When he told he wasn't Nadal the fan just walk off 😂 maybe it was Sir Jackie 😂

I found it quite ironic how Formula 1 legend Sir Jackie was not allowed in the “Special Area” that’s reserved for “celebrities” like Roger Federer only for the broadcast to mess up and think some random actor is Roger later on 😂. Nothing against Roger as I can see that you don’t want famous people to be mobbed at your event but fencing off actual legends of the sport is mind boggling.

Interesting how Sky Sports refer to Sir Jackie by his correct title but continue to fail when it comes to Sir Lewis Hamilton.
Let me tell you, here in America they have introduced him as Sir Lewis Hamilton when they're not doing in on Sky Sports. It's obvious the continued bias they have against Sir Lewis.

Whoever invites these 'celebs' onto the grid needs to be told that the celeb may be approached for a comment and should agree to it beforehand. Some of them know nothing about F1, so why are they there?? I loved that Russell spotted the commotion and stepped in. He will definitely be a popular world champion.
