    I sold prestige cosmetics for a while, and I back up what Cassandra is saying 100%. I went to every training I had available to me and watched so many skincare videos and it just wasn’t enough to /properly/ help people with their specific skin concerns. I did the best I could with the information I had and admitted when I didn’t know something. When a cheaper product was just as good I always pointed them in that direction.
    At one point I got told to ask people if they are drinking enough water 🙄 because it’s easier to sell product when the consumer thinks their skin is their fault.
    I don’t work in that field anymore, but these videos are absolutely amazing and I hope they help other people who have to work with limited training resources for their job!

      I used to work in a drugstore (not sure if that's the word, the store only sold cosmetics, skincare and hygene products basically), it was minimum wage, a job mostly broke students were willing to take, we had no training whatsoever and people expected us to recommend them skincare for their needs, it was so weird to me, like this is not even a high end store, why do you think we would be a good resource? And yeah, obviously I tried my best to at least inform them of the options we have (looking back with what I know now there were very few decent things) but that's about it, I got scolded once for not knowing which product had this one particular ingredient a lady had read of in a magazine lol. People need to balance their expectations.

      @@annieoops6243 I dealt with really terrible acne for a long time, and I came to learn the hard way that employee recommendations are very hit and miss. I would get acne recommendations without even being asked if I have dry or oily skin. I would get people telling me “it’s never to early to start an anti-aging routine” when I was in my teens and just wanted to get rid of my acne. No one ever told me about the importance of sunscreen! I got asked if I was sleeping 8 hours a night and drinking x amount of water a day as though they had insight into my (very complicated) medical history.
      When I realized that I had been duped, I tried my hardest not to put anyone else in that position when they were trusting me with their skin.
      I do want to say though that selling cosmetics and skincare was such a rewarding job. I absolutely loved seeing people excited to treat themselves or leaving the store feeling like a million dollars. The industry itself is a mess, but helping people feel great made me feel great too 🥰

    At 22, unless it’s a genetic thing, her having wrinkles is probably more of an indication that she needs to add a sunscreen to her morning routine than needing an anti-aging eye cream. She could half her cost by not using the shiseido eye cream, and swapping in a retinol eye cream at night and a sunscreen in the am. Neutrogena has a great retinol eye cream and drugstore sunscreens have come a long way.

    • @IfYouMeetAWolf
      @IfYouMeetAWolf Před 2 lety +13

      A lot of people confuse actual wrinkles with crepey skin too, most people under 25-ish usually don't have actual wrinkles - they have dehydrated or dry skin that need more hydration and moisture.
      But yes, sunscreen also have a similar effect by stopping the risk of dehydration.

    • @Black.Spades
      @Black.Spades Před 2 lety +9

      Many people can have wrinkles at a rather young age. People with either an expressive face, or who use some muscle groups a lot. Actors (and you can stretch this to influencers too) can have forehead and glabella lines. Singers can have nasolabial lines. Even different musicians can have wrinkles/fine lines depending on their instrument. With repeated skin folding and stretching no only sunscreen, but even when combined with tretinoin and specialist treatments the lines cannot be completely erased.
      Also nowadays you can see a lot of (very) young people with defined neck lines (=tech neck) because of the phone use.
      I'm not arguing against SPF and retinoids. I'm just pointing out that lines at an early age do not have to mean that someone is having genetic predisposition, or is failing with their skincare.

    • @IfYouMeetAWolf
      @IfYouMeetAWolf Před 2 lety +5

      @@Black.Spades Wrinkles are not the same as expression lines though. Yes, with age expression lines can become permanent wrinkles, but wrinkles are so much deeper into the skin than expression lines are.
      If at age 22 your expression lines stay even after you've released your expression, number 1 cause is crepey skin. Apart from extreme cases and genetic illness, i wouldn't say a 22 year old can have wrinkles yet. The skin still produces a lot of collagen and other important building blocks, so wrinkles can't really come up yet.

    • @Black.Spades
      @Black.Spades Před 2 lety +2

      @@IfYouMeetAWolf you are correct in that real wrinkles (folds) are not the same as fine lines, and I should've used quotation marks.
      Victoria doesn't have wrinkles, though. And many people call their fine lines wrinkles when they address those lines. So I thought perhaps that was the case here.
      And yes, healthy skin should not have real folds at the age of 22.
      But I disagree with the crepey skin. It also depends on the ethnic face type. Not racial, but really ethnic. Which decides the bone shape and the arrangement of the soft tissue, including subcutaneous fat later thickness. If you take a person of some Mediterranean sub ethnicities, they will have fine lines much faster because of thinner subcutaneous fat, but they won't have many deep wrinkles in the near future even when they lose deeper fat pads. Compare that to some sub ethnicities in Eastern Europe with fuller faces. They don't develop fine lines very quickly. But they will develop folds quicker than the first group (although those folds may also be more pronounced because more fat=more water retention in the aging face).
      Of course hydration is always important (and a skin with thinner fat layer can be more prone to dehydration). But it can't be blamed on just the dehydration without taking into account what the possibilities and limits are of that person.

    Would be interested to hear what you think of the new Versed retinol eye balm. Seems like a super gentle retinol product for the eye area, although their retinol serum is literally gentle enough to use around the eyes (tried it). They also came out with a retinol body lotion. These products are not yet available to me in Europe, but when they will be, I'm interested to see the prices.

    She didn't have a skincare because it's expensive yet this is what she uses? My whole skincare routine is probably about $100, and it lasts a couple months. She seems really nice, but how can she say embrace aging and had botox at 22? Good messaging, poor execution. Hope she continues to learn and get even better skincare, something is better than nothing.

    The Farmacy ingredients you showed was for the Green Clean Cleansing Balm. She used the Clearly Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm which is fragrance & essential oil free. I've used the Clearly Clean balm & it does a much better job than what she showed. Definitely user error by not emulsifying & letting the balm break down her makeup.

    Sales people at beauty stores get pushed by management to sell whatever product management says, regardless of what they personally like or would recommend in a different setting. Some are trained estethitians yet they feel pressure from their managers to push Dior, Chanel, or other products even though they think they're trash.

      The retinol is in squalane and it is an oil so I would use it after the alpha arbutin+HA (or just overall at the end of the pm routine) as everything you put over an oil will not be as effective and have a hard time penetrating.

    The annoying thing about that ice roller would be having to clean and disinfect it before every use. Otherwise you're rolling bacteria all over your face. I bought those jade massage/rollers when they were trendy and even though I did my best cleaning it with alcohol, it would still break me out once in a while. Once actual dermatologists said they're mostly useless, I threw it away.

    Dior has been doing skincare since 1986, 36 years now. Formulations are beautiful… I used it for a few years, and yes changed my routine for Korean skincare. But honestly I never found anything that comes close to the formulation of the Dior Capture Totale, it melts into the skin and keeps hydration all day🤷‍♀️. What is it with the demonization of luxury skincare 🙄

    I was very lucky, fortunate, unbelievably blessed (?) that my skin didn’t start aging noticeably until I had a series of tragedies in my early 60’s. Since then, it’s been a struggle to deal with skin barrier annoyance. I care a lot more about the burning and stinging I feel than I do the plethora of wrinkles that have appeared. Although I’m not thrilled with them either.
