Unfortunately, Dr. Lawson is wrong. Augustine did comment on 7:53-8:11. He also said that men removed it from scripture because they were worried it would encourage infidelity by their wives. Could this be a reason there is a textual critical issue with this passage?
Says Augustine, "Some men of slight faith, or, rather, some hostile to true faith, fearing, as I believe, that liberty to sin with impunity is granted their wives, remove from their scriptural texts the account of our Lord’s pardon of the adulteress, as though he who said, “From now on, sin no more,” granted permission to sin, or as though the woman should not have been cured by the divine physician by the remission of that sin in order not to offend others who are equally unclean." On Adulterous Marriages 2.7.6. See IVP's Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture, John 1-10.
Furthermore, Augustine has a beautiful lecture on the passage. See Tractate XXXIII. Lectures or Tractates on the Gospel according to St. John. Philip Schaff's Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers 1.7.

There were many things that I believe he misspoke on about John 7:53-8:11. That was an unfair representation. I understand both sides, but he did not represent the other side fairly.
