    The 2001 bears were I think more disappointing than the 2018 bears on how their seasons ended after a great regular season. (Both to the eagles 😩)

    The 2001 Bears reminds me of the 1986 Bears. They both had really good defenses. The quarterback situations was a carousel just like you saw there. When it came playoff time, the offense got exposed because there was no QB to guide them. The Eagles were just a better team just in 1986 when the Redskins defeated the Bears in the playoffs.

    I thought the Bears were going to win this game- monster defense, at home, battle tested (Packers, Bucs, Ravens), won a tougher division, Eagles had lost to a similar team in the divisional round last year (Giants), Chicago had beaten teams Philly lost to (49ers, Cardinals, Washington)
    But I forgot to factor in Philly’s road record- only an all-time heroic 49er goal line stand prevented an 8-0 (soon to be 9-0) record away from the Vet

    I know that Andy Reid has been getting a lot of grief for not making adjustments in the Super Bowl and the Chiefs getting blown out but here are some numbers to support my claim that he’s one of the best 5 or 6 head coaches in NFL history...
    1. Andy has been an NFL head coach for 22 seasons. He’s made the playoffs in 17 of them.
    2. Andy has won 11 division titles and finished 2nd in 7 other seasons.
    3. Including his 1st season taking over the 3-13 Eagles his teams have finished with a losing record in 3 of 22 seasons.
    4. It took him 2 years to turn the 3-13 Eagles into a perennial contender that made the playoffs 9 times in 11 years, won 6 division titles, and made 5 NFC championship game appearances.
    5. It didn’t even take him that long to turn the 2-14 Chiefs into a contender. KC was dead last in the NFL in points scored and 25th in points allowed in 2012. One year later they went 11-5 after winning their first 9 games and were 6th and 5th in each category.
    6. He’s 6th all time in wins and will enter the top 5 next season with just 5 more wins. He will likely retire 4th. Only behind Shula, Halas, and Belichick.
    7. He’s 4th in playoff wins and is 2 behind Shula and 3 behind Landry. No one is catching Belichick any time soon.
    8. He won at least 1 playoff game in his first 7 appearances.
    9. He’s won 63 percent of his regular season games.
    10. His teams have finished in the top 10 in point differential 18 times in 22 seasons.
    11. He’s been to the conference championship game 8 times and at least to the divisional round 12 times. His team has been among the last 4 standing more than 1/3 of the time and among the last 8 more than 1/2.
    12. The man can coach up a quarterback.
    13. He never throws his players under the bus. He takes the blame for everything and gives credit to other people all the time.
    14. He’s won 60 of 126 challenges. That’s the most ever and a lot better than the league average. It’s something.
    15. He finally got his championship. After flirting with immortality for so long Andy finally won the Super Bowl and there’s really nothing he hasn’t accomplished now.
    So that’s my case. I’m admittedly biased as an Eagles fan but the resume is still the resume. Andy’s team will almost always be a winning team and will have a real shot at winning the Super Bowl about half the time. He gets overshadowed by the success of Bill Belichick but he’s a phenomenal head coach. To me he’s one of the best 5 ever but I don’t think there’s a real argument to be made to keep him out of the top 10 by anyone.

      @JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly Před 3 lety +1

      @@marcusmcgraw3519 That’s the thing about many of these “turnarounds”: they begin with low expectations, the team doing it has a weak last-place schedule to build up their confidence, and they usually make it no further than the first or second round.

    • @josephvanhorn5347
      @josephvanhorn5347 Před 3 lety

      lol are you guys serious? The Eagles had a bunch of really good players there when he took over also but who cares? The Chiefs were still 29-67 over their previous 6 seasons and the Eagles were 9-22-1. If those teams were so good they wouldn’t have been a combined 5-27 the year before he got there. The Chiefs had a point differential of negative 214 in 2012. Only one team was within 50 points of that. The Eagles were negative 183 in 1998 and that was one point better than the worst team. KC then had a plus 125 in 2013, tied for 2nd best and the Eagles were plus 106 in 2000 which was 6th. Neither team had a quarterback in place. Neither team had players who had won before. But what he did wasn’t that impressive because he inherited a half dozen good players and had an easy schedule? That’s silly. He didn’t take a 7 win team and turn them into a 10 win wildcard team one time. He took 2 broken franchises and totally changed the culture and made them both perennial contenders. He did it twice and it stuck both times. If you include the old school guys Andy is probably around 10th right now. Losing the Super Bowl this season really hurt him. But if he squeezes another championship out of Patrick Mahomes he’s top 5.
