Lovely video reminded me of my childhood, my granny lived with us until I was 12 years old and she kept her Sabbath as she always had even to the extent of washing up after meals we used to put all of the cutlery into a jug of soapy water and delt with them on Monday mornings, after she passed dad made Sundays mums day of rest he took over everything looking after us 2 girls by then I was 12 years old and my sister was 4 but even she had her little jobs to do(lay and clear then dining table brush of the crumbs and fold the table cloth) dad lit our coal fire for mum to sit in the lounge and read the papers, but she always had to come and mix the yorkshire pudding we did try but it was never any good. In the afternoon we played in our rooms (no going out except for church er went to the family service at 12am and then back to Sunday school in the afternoon, while we were out dad used to make a cake for tea time where he used to cook toast by the coal fire. Sorry I got a bit carried away with my wonderful memories I am nearly 80 yet I remember those days with much happiness. God Blessings to you both and enjoy your weekend love as always x

I take Sunday as my day of rest. I go to church in the morning. Then I spend time with family, read, take a nap, call family far away, and try hard not to spend money. I think it is so healthy to take a break and rest. So much of what God instructs us to do really winds up being healthy too. Great video and advice.

My husband and I only recently began going to church this past January. We are finding that we like to eat lunch after church and then we both take it easy. My husband will watch sports on tv and I will usually crochet. Every now and then we will drive over to our younger daughter’s home and spend a few hours with them. It’s the only time we see their daughters since they are both now in school.
I appreciate that you share what works for you, but make no judgment on what others do. Your gentle and kind nature shines through with every video. God bless you both!

Paul and Emmy what a wonderful video! Shabbat is truly a blessing from God our creator. Our family also views Shabbat like a weekly holiday....we look forward to it and sometimes the week whips by so fast we find ourselves saying "It's Shabbat again yay!". We celebrate by eating a meal and we read the Torah and scriptures on Friday evenings with our family. Saturday morning we don't set alarms to wake up. We have coffee together, we take time for our hobbies, we take naps.....we have permission to rest without guilt. It is so refreshing....low key and no stress on Shabbat. God bless you guys ... shalom!

A day of rest is mandatory for me. It's the time when I do my meal planning and gather the recipes that I want to make. Like Paul , I spend the afternoon reading, it is a real treat. Not only is it a time for reflection but it enables you to catch up with your spouse and plan for the coming week. I usually make leftovers or simple meals like omelettes so the cleanup is minimal. Once again, I thank you both for all your great ideas. I think about you both whenever I'm preparing meals or making purchases. You both make the world a better place.

Yes in Spanish Sabbath is Sabado. 7th day is Sabbath. God rested form creating the world in 6 days. He rested on the 7th day. He hallowed it and blessed it. Sabbath rest is a Blessing from God. Jesus also kept the Shabbat Sabbath as God commanded to do. He went into the synagogue as was the custom. We Gentiles are grafted in to Him even though we many not be Jewish descent.

Sundays were always our day of rest growing up on our Iowa farm. No work except chores. Putting a roast & veggies in the oven before church & Sunday School with a big delicious meal ready when we got home at noon. Afternoon naps for Mom & Dad or visits with relatives who would come for a visit. Supper was always apples and popcorn - everyone fixed their own. Such great memories.

Hubby & I read, watch a few CZcamss, talk and play with our german shepherd, take our shower, do personal upkeep (manicure, pedicure, hair color etc.) Listen to soft classical music (Debussy, Ravel, Sibelius etc.) I fold laundry (which I like for some reason) Hubby goes thru the mail & attends to it, I embroider & do mending. This past weekend, I took my only day off to try and rest, and mostly from the internet. I just looked out the window and thought and looked through the books I had. It was really nice. My day of rest is Sunday. I'm my husband's full time caregiver so there are still things that I have to do, but I try to minimize what I have to do by planning our meals for the day and having them ready to just heat up. And we never plan to go anywhere. We stick around the house and maybe watch a movie or read. It is so important to take a day to recharge.
This coming week I will be taking Saturday off because I will be cooking a big Easter dinner on Sunday, but it's the same concept. On Friday I'll probably prepare a couple of things for Easter dinner, but on Saturday I'll be recharging.

I’m not religious myself but I love the idea of a complete rest day once a week. I think everyone should do it. So many work hard and are always on the go, so having a day to just lay low is incredibly rejuvenating. In strength training, you are always urged to take rest days because trying to lift too often will make your body tired and inefficient. The same goes w/ our lives I think. Having a rest day will help to take a pause and reset yourself so you come back stronger. I am seriously considering doing this one day a week and I also am thinking I might incorporate a no computer, tv, social media/online scrolling/being on the phone day. Just thinking that completely unplugging on the rest day, even if just from dawn to dusk, would be so good for my mind, body and soul.

Our old church had a potluck every Sunday after church, I understood the reasoning behind it, but I found it stressful. Our new church has a potluck every Tuesday (before Bible study). It is very well planned out and at dinner time. Everyone thoroughly enjoys it! It is especially nice for the folks that are coming straight from work. On Sunday we go to church (it is a 25 minute drive to and from church) and really enjoy the trip through the country side. We then have lunch, maybe take the dogs for a walk and just plain relax! Thanks for expressing how very important it is that we take that time!

I’ve now decided to try to go back to keeping commercialism out of Sunday and avoiding doing any shopping on Sunday. I usually have a day of using up leftovers on a Saturday, and I do my Dad's housework and medication for the week. I prep vegetables and pudding in the evening for Sunday dinner, and put a joint of meat in the slow cooker overnight. I have Yorkshire puddings in the freezer to reheat for a couple of minutes while I make gravy and the oven is warming up for a fruit crumble to cook while we eat our meal. It makes life so much easier, and I don't have anything to prep on a Sunday before church. I can prepare myself for the Lord's day without worrying about meals. We just have a snack later in the day. Thinking ahead is the key! Corinne x

My husband does most chores including the cooking because of my health, but when I meal plan, I try to have leftovers scheduled at least for Wednesdays and Sundays. Your meals look delicious, and I can't wait to try them. He tries to not have much to do on Sundays except going to church. We're retired, but it is important to be intentional about a rest day as well. I love your home as it looks so warm and inviting. Guess what Emmy and Paul! I enjoyed this video so much that I watched it twice in a row whilst having my lunch!😊. What a delightful way to obey what God says about keeping the Sabbath and having a day of rest. Yet again, your video gave me so much joy, because I'm so happy to see how you are living in the way God intended us to live. Isn't it just great that our awesome God loves us so much and cares for us so much that He told us to take a day to rest from our labours.
My husband and I are Christians too and, because we are still both working, we have our day of rest on Sunday. It's a lovely and relaxing day. We walk through a big park to get to our Church, and we get to see deer and beautiful scenery on the way. Very refreshing!

I am fairly new to your channel, and I love it! This subject, Sabbath, is especially near and dear to my heart. Thanks for walking us through your process. I got so many great ideas! I grew up in the 1960s, when "blue laws" were still pretty common. It was easier to opt out of 24/7 busyness back then. We were required to stay indoors and play quietly after church and Sunday dinner (always eaten at home) while our parents took a nice, long nap. Even as a child, I enjoyed the rhythm and tranquility of it. Now, I find I have to fight hard to protect a day of rest. It is so out of sync with American culture. So much has changed in my lifetime, but there are some old ways that are worth fighting for. Sabbath is one of them! God created us, and I think He knows a thing or two about how we function best! :) Thanks for all you do to encourage and educate!

Wow, this was a great video. I would love to have a day of rest. My hubby is a person that can never be still. He works a full-time job Monday through Friday, and he has a yard service that he does all by himself Monday through Friday after his day job and all day Saturday. He is always finding something to do. Even on Sunday he's washing the cars early in the morning. I think it would be amazing to just have one day that we can stay at home and rest. This reminds me of a video you once did about how you break up blocks of time during your day to get things done. Last weekend I found myself like a hamster on a wheel. I would start working on something and get distracted and work on something else. I found myself running in circles and not really accomplishing much. I try to do all the housecleaning on Saturday if possible. I work full-time Monday through Friday. I feel like I never get a real break. I would love if you would revisit that topic or maybe link it in the next video. Have a blessed Holy week.😊🙏⛪

Just quality family time. We light candles to bring in our sabbath and eat home made bread and all pre cooked food which is warmed on in warmer which is lit 🔥 before our sabbath. We read go to synagogue and often have guests or go to guests or family. We play board games whatever. And we learn and share idea. And it is an oasis in a too fast too busy week. 🥰

We Jews keep Shabbat on Saturday as well. It starts Friday night before sundown and ends on Saturday a bit after sundown. Wen light candles, dress nicely, set a beautiful table and have a special meal. The next morning we get up and go to service. Afterwards we come home to a meal made in advance and heated up. Then it is time for a nap or a leisurely walk, maybe visiting with close friends. Then when sundown comes, Shabbat is over and the new week starts. That's when we can cook again but we always choose something very fast and easy.

@@FrugalMoneySaver ❤My family of origin had a busy prep day on Saturday. And would go to early church service on Sunday so we could return in time to reheat the food we'd prepped the night before and add finishing touches and set the table. Then by 1 p.m.Sunday afternoon people just started showing up.
It was the time we all kicked back and visited with our friends and family. Nobody called ahead, some showed up in time for a whole meal but some just showed up later for coffee and dessert. My mom would have me put a tablecloth over everything to keep things from drying out. By evening, after our last guest left, we cleared the table, refrigerated any leftovers and did any dirty dishes. We usually had enough food leftover so my mom didn't have to cook much until midweek. Good memories!❤

The night before, mix 1/2 cup quick oats with 3/4 cup half milk/half vanilla/any flavor yogurt in a mason jar. Add a dash of salt and tiny splash vanilla extract. Stir well and cover. In the morning I add sprinkle of cinnamon and pinch of brown sugar. Stir well. You could add fruit, fruit jelly, honey, granola, etc. Easy and fast.
