Oxidation buildup on my plastic frames caused frames to look faded. Only option given by eyewear professionals was to purchase a new pair, so I found a simple solution.
I’m an Optician....What a useful tip! I’ve noticed plastic frames are oxidizing faster with amped up sanitizing protocols. Thank you! 🤓🥳 Really. Thank you and bless you 🙏🏼
Yeah true. I’m guilty of this, but also washing frames with dish soap really causes that white film to occur. Now I just clean my frames with hot water and dry with microfiber.
@@sl4983 Honestly I don't know. Although I wouldn't recommend applying to the actual lens, seems like you have nothing to lose. Maybe give it a shot. Sometimes the scratches are actually embedded in the oxidation and not that actual glass, so you may get positive results. Let me know how it works out for you. I may try it on a old pair that I have and let you know if it works.
@@aja257 Great Call!! Unless your lenses are nearly opaque already and you have just picked up your fabulous new replacement specs, please don’t use any questionable chemicals on your lenses. Chances are you have at least a scratch resistant coating, and hopefully you have anti reflective coating as well. First thing is to check your warranty. Second thing, have a back up on hand first. I’ve seen some bad things, my friends. Lol.
Alcohol does that it removes moisture I’m guessing because of the distilling process so it leeches moisture where it can that stuff he is using is a lubricant i knew id see someone using it on glasses one day works good on headlights lasts for months at a time not just a few weeks
He is right - this blessed my life! Works perfectly! I had just gotten an old, favorite pair of frames filled with a new $$$ prescription. When I picked them up I noticed they had this white film all over it. The person at the store said there was nothing I could do about it. Then I found Alex's video. Tried it. My glasses look brand new! Thanks, Alex!!! Also...I saw a video about this after I already tried Alex's solution about using one of those magic cleaner erasers. That would probably work also...
Thank you so much, I was talking to someone and they spit on my Dolce & Gabbana prescription eyeglasses and I'm a little germaphobe so my silly self spray it down with alcohol not knowing that they would oxidize and mess up my frames....my frames are black....I was really devastated because these are glasses that I wear everyday... and like yours really expensive. when I saw your video I was like thank you God! I just did it tonight, so far so good...😆 thank you for sharing this tip, you are a blessing !💖
Linda Johnson glad I could help ;-) If you are an LV lover, then I have another video coming soon for restoring your keepall/ speedy locks back to new condition.
Oh yeah man! I've been using this trick ever sense with all of my plastic frames. Money saver! I did find washing with dish soap constantly causes oxidation, so use less of that.
This tip saved a serviceable pair of Prada's that had lost of their shine. It took me a couple hours of work with that Turtle Wax headlight refinisher to bring the gloss back. They look new again!
Thanks for sharing! Probably the best method I've found online, that really seems to work. One tip for others, who are going to try this, is to make sure not to rub to hard (just like you mentioned) on the part where the logo is (I've noticed my rayban emblem got "sanded down" a bit since it is, in a way, painted on the frame)
Man thank you for posting this. Mine were really bad. So bad that you could barely see the original color. I needed to use a little more than a few drops. But it worked great. Like new frames.
Hi! Don’t know if you will see this but you saved my glasses. I found your video and tried this. OMG! It’s amazing. My black frames were dull and just ugly. I followed your solution and they now look like new. They are shiny and clean. Thank you so much for posting this. I really appreciate it. Try it people. It works!
ON POINT!! Just tried it and it WORKS! had an expensive pair of glass which had that white haze on the frames and green oxidized metal hinges. Your tip fixed both. Simple but EFFECTIVE. Thank you!
Use shaving cream for your lenses and watch what happens. Mine came out new try it just apply and rinse off with warm water dry with soft cloth . It’s amazing
LensCrafters told me after wearing glasses from them, there was nothing they could do. Liars. They should have just said that is a service we don’t provide.
I know right! They didn't even give me a recommendation or remedy I could try. They just wanted me to discard a functioning pair of expensive glasses, and purchase brand new ones. smh
Thanks so much for this tip! I have Ray Ban frames too that were very expensive and they started to get discolored after a year. I was very upset because I typically don't spend so much on frames. But I treated myself. This worked great! They look like new. So glad I googled this. Thanks again!
Looks good man! I do have a question though. You said to apply the headlight cleaner then wash the excess stuff off the frame with soap and water. Does rinsing the frames with soap and water remove the headlight cleaning stuff from the frames and causes the white oxidation marks to appear again?
I don't believe it does. You could always just wash with cool water. I said soap and water just because the chemical is so close to your eyes....but a thorough rinse with cool water should also do the trick.
I used rubbing alcohol to clean my glasses, which was a bad idea. But I noticed my glasses frames around the lens started to form this white haze or film. I don’t know if the alcohol slowly was deteriorating the frames but as soon as I noticed this happening, I stopped using it so my frames are not even that bad but it does bother me, when I look very closely at them with bright lights to notice a very slight white film. I have designer frames, Prada so I don’t want to mess them up even further. I’m scared to try this method lol
This could work with polished black armazon to remove the little scratches that appears just to look at them? I mean polished frames are always too susceptible to get scratches on them, btw this is an amazing tip, also this can work with sunglasses right?
Can i use meguiars plastx cleaner or meguiars ultimate compound or turtlewax headlight cleaner & sealant? So hard found turtlewax like yours in my place.
I don't trust eyeglasses retailers, they will 100% get you the most expensive option because they don't sell glasses to often because people keep them for a long time so repairs don't interest them and the margins on new glasses is ridiculous too
You are right about that! With all of these new designer eyewear cites emerging, these brick and mortar have some serious competition. I just hopped in the Zeelool train for affordable frames, and it’s been a GAME CHANGER!!!! $15-$40 I’ve been spending now on stylish frames.
I'm not sure. You could give it a shot. It'll work if it's a plastic frame for sure, but if its metal coated, then I would suggest trying a metal polish.
do you think this will help with discoloration on clear frames? The tips of my frames turned a darkish purple, and I'm trying to figure out how to clean them.
I'm not sure, but honestly I wouldn't recommend using them on your lens. Not sure how the chemical compound could affect the lens filters. BUT, if you're on the verge of replacing them, then give it a shot. I may save your glasses! Let me know how it works out.
No, I just used soap & water. You could just use warm water also, but just ensure that you remove access residue off of your frames. Why? Because you don't want access chemical near your eyes. Hope this helps
I used this method to shine my Versace sunglasses. 3.99 at Ross for another brand. I also used a magic eraser to buff off a finger print stain. the magic eraser helps at removing scratches , salt deposits that will dull the frame. after I applied this stuff it brought the shine back, washed it with water and like new. I reapplied a few times till I got that perfect shine.
I’m an Optician....What a useful tip! I’ve noticed plastic frames are oxidizing faster with amped up sanitizing protocols. Thank you! 🤓🥳

I did this with a dremel tool and it worked 🙏🏼 thanks bro

Handy tip! Thanks Alex! 👍
OMG THIS WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!
Thank you Alex. It's excess(extra) not access(availability). Thank you
Life saver for my Persol. BTW the residue is a buildup of sweat/perspiration. Thank you 👍🏻
I used Maguiers ultimate compound with great results I even waxed with carnauba and they look amazing 👍
Fire also works. It’s how the baseball fields revitalize the plastic seats that are in the sun everyday.
Wow!!! Thank You!!
Any tips on scratched anti reflective coating

Awesome ❤❤❤❤. I’ve tried vinegar and baking soda and it didn’t work. Can’t wait to try this.
And I have tried soaking in Dawn and that didn’t work either. My frames are Coach so I can’t afford to just get another. God bless you Alex 😎♥️🙏🏽
Brilliant Alexander!
Great! Thanks.
Holy crap you're a legend
Thanks!
Hi Alex! New subscriber! Does this method get rid of scratches as well? Thank you! You made my day and made me chuckle! ❤
I find that it reduces the appearance of scratches. But give it a try.
hi how long does it last before you get to do it again thanks you
Thank you👏🏽 will this remove stains as well?
Does it erase out scratches on the lenses also? You did address that in here. Thanks
Perfect Solution. Thanks.

it works. tried it on my Versace collection.
Alcohol definitely causes oxidation!!!! Use the lens restore, and it will work!

Does this work on metal color plated frames. like the gold color plated metal frames.
I'm not sure. You could give it a shot. It'll work if it's a plastic frame for sure, but if its metal coated, then I would suggest trying a metal polish.
Will these work on all frames, I have coach frames which are textured. I'm worried it might ruin the lettering. Nice video.
You could use a soft microfiber cloth depending on how textured the frames are.
do you think this will help with discoloration on clear frames? The tips of my frames turned a darkish purple, and I'm trying to figure out how to clean them.
Not sure, but it’s worth giving them a try.
Did you ever try it? Because I’m thinking of trying this on some clear frames to remove some slight yellow discoloration. Let me know how it went?
What happened? Did you try??
does this damage the antiglare or blue light filter on the lens of the glasses?

I work a lot with Isopropyl alcohol. And it's been fading my black frames on my glasses. Will this work?
all I can tell you is give it a try. Glasses are expensive, so an $8 attempt could potentially save your hundreds
Using iso alcohol will fade your frames
