  • The U-bolts were pretty well rusted out and probably not too far from breaking so it was time to replace them.

I would spray that entire bottom side of that truck with WD40 or better yet, used motor oil cut with WD40 and a old paint spray gun and hose the entire bottom of that truck, after a day or 2 it will look almost new.....this works, I did it many times and plus, everything you work on afterwards is easier to work on and that old rusty metal will soak in the oil and it will dry up pretty quickly. good luck P.S. I have a video of me doing it on my 2001 Ram that I bought new and it still looks new underneath becuase I do this every fall....Connecticut uses the worst winter salt on the road....

Good idea to pack the bolts in grease. I do it the same way and you are able to get it off again after years.

For some reason one of my ubolts get very tight far before my other one does. So when I torque them to spec by cross tightening the threads show more on on ubolt than the other ubolt and the pin is in correctly too idk

You should bathe the entire truck in rust converter.

Wonder if kits come with the bottom bracket or have to order separate. Mine are rusted pretty bad. Time to replace. What year is your truck? Mine is a 98 GMC.

Just ordered one kit. A kit is often only one u-bolt and the nuts. Not two U-bolts, and the bracket isnt included

Do you have to jack the truck up or can you do it while just sitting on the ground

Must release pressure off the suspension or else can cause the spring tention to break lose and cause injury or damage

131ft pounds is a little high, Factory service manual for my 92 Silverado says 110 n.m. or 81 ft.lbs.
