Heyyy Caroline, howz ya doin? lol. 80's kid here, born in 75. I feel the same about the music from mid 80's to around mid 90's and that includes the artists you mentioned too.
Man Tricky is one of those artist I feel never recieved the accolades he really deserves. He solidified the genre and contributed so much, not only to music in general, but he seriously enhanced me and my friends lives so much. Hearing Tricky in the mid to late 90s opened me up to so much more......
Same on all accouts...he should have gotten way more credit and heard...but I feel like he was a hidden gem of our time, and only the cool ones know lol
this is one of those artists that dont create such masterpieces for adoration or acknowlegment he does it simply to express his emotions in lyrical form, as i say, " no addoration nescesery " true artistry
I suppose would be pointless to sample a sample given it would be the same result - unless it was a loophole to use without paying the original artist, or paying less
When Tricky was young, there was a street in his neighbourhood notorious for crime. Because of this, Tricky and his friends called this street ‘Hell’. They would often dare each other to run down the street, and so when writing this song Tricky was influenced by the time that hell was quite literally round the corner.
How do you know this? I'm not making fun of you, I just think that's fucking awesome that you know. I know a few things about Randy Rhodes. But, Tricky is totally killer...😘
Yes!! Lol i just got to watch the last episode and in the end this song played ..i had to find it !! Wow it's 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 i also found the song with Rihanna and SZA(consideration) through this show !!
This song is so incredibly timeless. I played it in between sets once when i was bartending at a music venue. There were quite literally hundreds of people asking me who the artist was. When i told a few who were sitting at the bar had looked into Tricky and by the end of the night we were all discussing music and how amazed they were because the lot of them apparently assumed it was a newer song in which they were being acquainted. Some people like to gatekeep good music and ive never understood that mentality. Spreading the word when someone is interested in something unfamiliar to them is fantastic not just for the listener but the artist as well. Arists being discovered by younger generations is how their music lives on after theyre no longer with us. Id never stand in the way of that process❤
The bass-line is taken from Belgian band Wallace Collection's 'Daydream' 1969, who already used the strings from Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake'. Also sampled by Isaac (Ike) Hayes, Claude François, Portishead, Beta Band, I Monster, Lupe Fiasco and Hooverphonic (in 'Mad about you') who would later cover 'Glory Box' to close the circle. De nada.

Yeah! Couldn't agree more, Tricky just looks demonic. Nailed it!
It's a whole slick vampire series that was never written!
Tricky's work on Bjork's album Post is really awesome. Some of the best of the 90's alternative.
On my way to find that! Thanks for the tip 7 years later!
