Why would people distribute iPads to children? They're children. They need to learn how to socialize with others and the only games they should play are the ones they play with their friends, not the ones on iPads. Even if it's for school purposes, I doubt the children would hold themselves back from downloading games onto them.
I think that it actually makes them smarter. Plus these kids are being born into a generation where technology is a big deal. I have a three year old cousin that already knows how to read and write due to playing some games on her ipad. She can write like little things and her name and can only read that much too but she's three. I understand how it can make them stupid but I think with supervision and having limits on how long they can be on the device can work. I also have another cousin that is really smart but she does not have common sense. Yesterday her brother fell and she just watched him. Didn't even try to help him up. If you don't tell her to shower or to come down to eat she won't do any of that because she just sits on her ipad. She's like that because of bad parenting. They give her an ipad or whatever so they don't have to entertain her or really do anything because they know that'll keep her busy which is sad. They don't want to take her anywhere so they give her an ipad so they don't ah to watch her. My three year old cousin got supervision and limits the other one didn't.
What if you don't have friends or a family that's even afraid of letting you play with other kids, because they think it's dangerous like my parents. I never had a lot of friends. Only some people I saw everyday at school. It still hasn't changed and I don't care anymore about that. I accepted it, because I've something that makes me happy now. I also do my best at school so that I can finally have enough money to afford the newest technology such as phones or ipads. I know I can't live anymore without my phone. I'm addicted to it and everyone who knows me says that, but it's the only thing that gives my life a sense and keeps me alive.
I think it's a great tool but they need to learn to do other things like develop handwriting at a young age. The iPads could be better used later in life
In my school from kinder to 11 grade we all use iPads. It's a lot easier, you don't need to take all those books home for studying, I just take some notebooks ands that's all, (I'm in 10 grade) my little brother with is still in school got all these apps the school installed for him that made him learn faster a lot of stuff that I lasted a lot learning in an huge book
The number of people criticizing this out of hand without more information amazes me. I scrolled through and did not see one single positive comment. iPads can be used for so much more than just games. Learning how to use technology is a critical part of learning in this day and age and does not dumb things down. My son's school has iPads for their classrooms as well as Chromebooks and I am all for it.
If they use it for school it's ok i think, if it's only used for learning. But what happened to playing outside with your friends? I used to be outside the whole day, my mother used to get mad at me for staying late outside. Now she is scolding my little sister because she's always inside playing on the ipad. She finds that more interesting then playing outside with her friends. Kids nowadays don't learn how to communicate.
04Anniek My son does use the iPads sometimes during recess when it is raining and they can't go outside anyway. For the most part thought it is all learning related. Also, I think we need to acknowledge that the tech world is a form of communication that we all need to learn too. Of course that shouldn't replace face to face communication, but it is a part of life.
But if your kid plays on an ipad, he isn't playing with others. Yes he can learn from those games on the ipad, i won't denie that, but what's more important to you : your kid learning things or making friends en learning with them through normal games? Children now are complaining more about headaches and they're also getting fatter! Ofc technology is a part of life, but not for little children!
04Anniek It is all about balance. In my experience my kids don't want to be on screen all day even if I let them. Create a free and open space and they will want to explore. And of course there are multi-player games too. Definitely it can be abused, but everything in moderation. And as far as being overweight, diet has just as much if not more to do with that. If we want to do something in the schools that will make a big health difference don't worry about if they are using iPads in the classroom, but fix school lunches.
That's true. Then your kids are raised well(: i'm not living in a land where they have school lunches so i can't say anything about that. But i agree with you on that. But a lot of kids don't exercise and don't get their daily activity, only because they have their computer, phone, ipad etc. I'm against to all of that too. Just don't buy your kids that stuff until he/she is 12/13. That's my opinion..
She spoke my mind!!!! Ever since my school got iPads for everyone: the work and grades have gone down... No one even bothers to focus as much anymore and the teachers are too lazy to correct things written in paper, they'd rather have us students send them our work through email... It sucks, but luckily I'm going to another school with computers , that's a little better lol.
I think she is absolutely right and I can't believe that the audience supports the idea of getting Ipads for such young children. How stupid are they. This whole ipad thing totally destroys the way of learning how to write and to communicate. Most of the time the kids come home and play with an ipad so Kindergarten should be ipad free in my opinion.
I thought she's going to change what I'm doing 10+ hours daily... "I just hope they don't spend too much time in front of computer screen" "I hope that they also spend so much time in front of TV screen." haha, love you Ellen.
My entire county is distributing iPads to all of the middle schoolers in the county and they have already given a bunch if elementary schools enough iPads for every child and are planning to give them to more elementary schools. I think it is so unnecessary that they are spending money on this when there are more important things to be done around the school, like fixing the roof, which is awful.
well they are selfish why else would they come and did u see videos of them on Ellen they would be exited for stuff but I have more than that I would come there because of Ellen
Because Ellen is too nice & they are so spoiled to where they only go on the show to expect gifts.they aren't happy. They just agree because they think she will give them whatever she's talking about
Agree with Ellen so much on this. When I was a kid, I was graded on penmanship too. God how I hated that. Can't deny it helped me learn to write better though.
Man those kids are lucky. My high school couldn't even afford brand new books. Back when me and my older sister were still in high school, the school had bought "new books" but they were another schools old ones but they were new to us.
I agree with Ellen! I'm 13, and I don't have an iPad or cell phone, and I don't need one (though sometimes I'd like one) and kindergartners definitely don't need them. You don't need them to learn! Probably half of them use them at home anyway so to me there really isn't any point in having them at school. I don't really understand it. I think Ellen is making a good point and I wish that her audience would agree. That's just my opinion about it.
Most public schools in here gave out iPads to the students, it’s mostly used for educational purposes. But students get to take it home and do whatever they want with it so!
Totally agree with Ellen!!! My son is 10 and he has an iTouch now. There are rules, I can look at anything, I only have passwords, he can only use it for so long, and the main reason is because if we go out of town for FaceTime or family can send him messages. So I can message him when he's at home with grandma asking him about homework etc. NO WAY would I give a 5 year old an iPad.
Just wanted to say, my school uses IPads. The children get the IPads in 4th grade though, and also, what she didn't mention was that the IPads aren't for games, they are used for school purposes! It works great for our district. Btw, the entire district uses them.
If you ever want to talk to the teacher but you see to many kids at the desk, to lazy or just want to bother the teacher you can always FaceTime him or her!! Lol
A few days ago I went to my local shopping mall and there was a kid, no older then 7 or 8, and he was talking on a cellphone and I don't mean one of those cheap things either it was an actual 4-500 dollar smart phone. I know, kids these days need technology to keep up with everything but an 8 year olds brain is still developing and whilst I know teenagers is also it is worse to have a little 8 year old kid hold a radiation device up to his ear. We adults shouldn't even do it but we do so given the damage it can do to our fully developed brain just imagine how much faster it will be for that radiation to do damage to that little boys brain.
I can understand an iPad for the family to share, but one for a six-year-old to be the sole owner of? What the heck? Do you know how easily kids that age break stuff/lose stuff? I betcha at least half of those kids are not going to have those iPads come 3rd grade.
I'm sure they have to give them back after the school year's over, just like textbooks. And they might not even be able to take them home. But still, I agree, 6 year olds should not have an Ipad.
My high school got iPads last year, which I guess makes more sense just because we can do actual work on them and everything, but still people download and play games in class... most of us know how to use them responsibly. As for kindergarteners... If some high school students can't even use them effectively, that's a bad idea
My school district in Indiana has personal ipads for everyone in the high school and the the elementary and middle schools have ipads they keep at the school for the kids to use. The ipads are used for school purposes only and have restrictions so the kids can't do certain things.
in my media course we're currently discussing how kids of this new generation are more technological capable than their parents and grandparents. Learning styles are changing, and I think that it's great that the kids are getting iPads. These Kindergartners are going to learn in such a new and dynamic way, which is amazing. BUT i still think that kids should learn math, reading, writing and grammar.
Haha Ellen you make good jokes! I liked the parts where she said "I'm sorry, you're fired" and when she said "And by the time they're done, they'd be eaten by a dinosaur!"
There a school near me called Parklands College...they gave all the children "Mac Woods" which is just basically a wooden 'laptop' that can fold like a normal laptop. The kids have to keep it with them the whole time and never lose it, put it in a safe place and if something happened to it, for example, if one of the kids left their Mac Wood on the bench and a teacher saw it laying there, they would get into trouble.. this is a good way to teach the kids on how to take care of them so that when they enter high school they can own their own mac book or ipad..i think giving kids ipads in kindergarden is not a good idea...they should first learn how to take care of a fake one before getting a real one.
im in Ontario Canada and we have three class sets of ipads and android tablets and the classes get to sign them out and use them. the kindergartens get an hour a day
I have iPads at my high school that we use for all our classes! Although, there are students who can't even use them wisely as a 16 year old. 5 year olds would just break them.
Are you kidding people are freaking out about this? I lived in Maine and in middle school we got MacBooks to use and I think it was one of the best things that they could've done. Especially since I'm a visual learner. Some kids just need that type of learning and it;s a good thing if they're monitored like our MacBooks were by administrators. If we did anything inappropriate or not school related on them, we'd get them taken away.
Some private schools in Australia don't even have books, a pencil case or anything. The only thing they have to bring to school is their MacBooks because all their homework and books are digital!
I think it's extremely important for kids to have access to Ipads and other technology. I work at a school and I get to see first hand all the different projects that kids use their Ipads for and all the programs and apps they use to assist in their learning. It's not that the kids get to sit with the Ipad in front of them all day and they do nothing else, no, the Ipads are there to enrich their learning. The kids also have limited access which means that they can only play and use certain things on the Ipad and they can definitely not download whatever they want. Plus, I'd be more concerned if my kids' school didn't have Ipads, or laptops or computers because then how does their education measure up to that of children who did have the privilege?
I think IPads are amazing. When I was 15 I raised money for my 4 year old sister with Cerebral Palsy. My friend/mentor(Pam) and I had Bake Sales to get the money for her IPad (we were doing this because my family is too poor to just go out and buy something that's costs over $600) Pam and I raised about $875 and some cents and bought the IPad with a app that costed $127 so then, the day before her Birthday we walked into the Apple Store with mostly dollars and a few(like 3) $20 (plus Apple care and a amazing case) now, 2 years later she can talk. I think IPads are amazing.
Technology is very beneficial to a school system and having the iPad could take away the paper weight in kid's backpacks. My backpack is as heavy as a boulder. My school district is giving them out to the younger kids like the middle schoolers so eventually when they are high schoolers everyone will have one. Of course I won't get to use an iPad for school since I'm a junior now but I'm kind of glad because school is a break for my eyes since at home I am on my iPad and phone:D
At my school we get netbooks which are 5+ years old and they are so slow! Watching paint dry would be more fun. I am 15 years old now, I am getting into the important educational years, so I need something like an ipad so I can study easy! :(
It scares me to think about what the world will be like when my future kids are in school. I don't want them to have that stuff before the age of 12, and even at that age I would only like them to have a phone for emergencies. But even now it's like there's no choice because schools are exposing kids to massive amounts of technology. I want my kids to have a childhood like I had, playing outside and using their imagination, not playing games on a screen all day.
That audience is stupid why would you give a child a iPad when there's stuff out side they can play with haven't the heard about toys and nature !!! Crazy!
As a highschooler, I would support IPads at my school simply to avoid heavy textbooks (Too much weight isn't healthy for your back, you know), but for kindergarteners? Seems a little early. 1st graders, maybe.
nabila green Don't worry. Only Season 11 is over. Season 12 starts in september. Even Ellen and staff and crew needs a vacation :). They do this memorial moments every season (or holiday) break, so there is still some going on on this channel.
Ellen in Sweden children in elementary school are given iPads or Mac computers instead of notebooks and pencils and pens, is very sad how we are plugging ourselves into technology. I love it and we need it, but there has to be some boundaries.
Giving an iPad to your kid as entertainment source - I kinda get that. Times changed, people earn more money than they used to, it somehow teaches responsibility because a kid needs to be careful with an iPad not to break it, so on, so on. We don't really know, at this point, to what purposes that device would be used at the school that Ellen was talking about or whether it is a public or private school for that matter. I'm sure such thing as iPad would come in handy for some kinds of activities in kindergarten, though I don't think it should be used as the main tool for studying, at least not at this age of development when learning how to write and read is essential. It might not be a bad idea, it all depends on the ways that kindergarten would make use of an iPad, really.
Giving ipads to children is a blessing and a curse. With the ipad they can learn more and the teacher can provide like learning games, etc. Instead of handing out 1000 worksheets. On the other hand, they need to socialize and acually do physical activities that you cant do with an ipad.
Why would people distribute iPads to children? They're children. They need to learn how to socialize with others and the only games they should play are the ones they play with their friends, not the ones on iPads. Even if it's for school purposes, I doubt the children would hold themselves back from downloading games onto them.

Got this from another comment I'm guessing?
Agreed!!
I thought she's going to change what I'm doing 10+ hours daily...

Can we have Ryan Higa on your show?
I think audience were clapping because they thought Ellen was gonna give out iPads..Audience sucks
well they are selfish why else would they come and did u see videos of them on Ellen they would be exited for stuff but I have more than that I would come there because of Ellen
I know :) Us who watches here videos when we won't even win any prices are the best !
***** true and if I were the all the time there would be a room full of stuff
Jajajaja I thought so too jajaja
Lol good point.
I actually had an iPad when i was in Kindergarten...yeah...back then we used to call it SKETCH BOOK!!!!
For reals right. I still remember those days.
Well,I must say I miss Kindergarten!!!!
Why do the audience clap at everything even when it has nothing to do with them??
Because Ellen is too nice & they are so spoiled to where they only go on the show to expect gifts.they aren't happy. They just agree because they think she will give them whatever she's talking about
Lol so true...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😂
ToraydoBull what is you’re question say anything to them
Very good points about the penmanship and spelling.
the only thing I was thinking about throughout this whole video is how much I miss the show and can't wait till it's back tbh
RIP Generation of full-talent.
My school is switching over next year. They told us not to bring in notebooks, but I would rather write first and then type.
"isn't amazing that i could read!!" Very funny!!
Agree with Ellen so much on this. When I was a kid, I was graded on penmanship too. God how I hated that. Can't deny it helped me learn to write better though.
Its so true about when she said how are kids going to learn to write

Ellen your awesome it's a shame your show isn't on in Ireland :( I have to just watch clips here
In my school, you don't even get to use an iPad. Just computers sometimes but no iPads
We are being attacked by technology!!!
And I really hate it!!!
Marcel is that u
BUR HALO IT'S SKYNET.
My sister is 2 years old and she has her own ipad minie and knows how to use it perfectly!!!
Apple products are meant for ppl her age
Tell your parents, that your sister should play with regular toys, such as blocks, cars, dolls... Ask them if they know what motor activity is....
That's so sad, dear...
I'm sure Apple loves that. That's exactly what they are going for. Now they see a lifetime customer. But that's really nothing to be proud of.
Juanita Sanchez what is your one ☝️ for your 2 sisters name
Hahaha 'I have earned autocorrect'- hilarious as always

Here in AZ all the schools have iPads
I love you Ellen!! You are the absolute best!😄😄😂
That makes me want to be a kid again, I dont own an Ipad now
u are awsome!!!! greats from Argentina!!!!!
Everyone in our school has a laptop or an iPad...including the kindergarten classes.
I just love you and your show
this whole vid is super funny!
LOLL (Laugh out loud literally)
PLEASE get Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki on the show! Supernatural is going into its 10th season!
My 4 year old wants an iPad, she uses her dads & loves it.
They already gave iPads to all the kids at my school in Illinois. Big deal we've had them for 2 years already
I have iPads at my high school that we use for all our classes! Although, there are students who can't even use them wisely as a 16 year old. 5 year olds would just break them.

All the kids in my school already have school issued iPads.
My secondary school has done that. Everyone in my school has an ipad
In Sweden there are alot of schools that has ipads
I loved it!
Damn you lucky. First! XD
ylove ur vids ellen an im from ireland!!!
In my school district every student has their own ipad and we have 6 schools.
I swear , there's no hope for this world. Giving iPads to kids is the stupidest thing i have ever heard.
I'm just watching this video in my iPad but I think After my lunch which I ordered on the Internet I'll take my iPhone 😂
we do that in denmark..
My school district gives iPads to every student
At my school we get netbooks which are 5+ years old and they are so slow! Watching paint dry would be more fun. I am 15 years old now, I am getting into the important educational years, so I need something like an ipad so I can study easy! :(
Ellen possible the best person and caring lady we love u Ellen 😱😭😘😍💙❤️💚💚
Brilliant.
My school has given ipads to all of the elementary students. I don't understand it either, but hey, whatever works.
kids need to be kids and play with toys, outside....
I love you Ellen!
Anna Kivi actually technology free schools do exist, they're generally private and hard to come by though
They give the rest of us that live in Maine that are in middle school and high school laptops for the school year
Love ellen so much
Pre-Kindergarteners get iPads in Dallas! In my opinion I think they're great!
Unbelievable.... I had safety scissors...LOL. My autocorrect on my phone has A Dirty Mind. LOL
That audience is stupid why would you give a child a iPad when there's stuff out side they can play with haven't the heard about toys and nature !!! Crazy!
this makes me scared for this generation and the future ones..
Wow this audience blows my mind.
my district has iPads for everything we do like hw and checking our updates we do worksheets on them its crazy
As a highschooler, I would support IPads at my school simply to avoid heavy textbooks (Too much weight isn't healthy for your back, you know), but for kindergarteners? Seems a little early. 1st graders, maybe.
This is great
The closest we got to technology was that phonics center haha. ;)
It's insane that kids can have iPads.
the pre-k through 3rd grade at my school has ipads
is ellen leaving? why is she posting all these memroble moments
The season has finished.
when is she coming back?
No, it's just the summer break of the show, so they upload older stuff as memorial moments. She's back in september with season 12.
i though she is leaving too,i hope not ,so sad
nabila green
Don't worry.
Our school already does Ipads and Macs and we are a k-8 school but they stay at school and they are for tests and typing.
Giving ipads to children is a blessing and a curse. With the ipad they can learn more and the teacher can provide like learning games, etc. Instead of handing out 1000 worksheets. On the other hand, they need to socialize and acually do physical activities that you cant do with an ipad.
If ANYTHING, high school students should get iPad. Even High School students may not be responsible enough.
Our school does this. So does the elementary
At my school we all have our own I pads but we are in 8th grade
My school district (Eanes), already supplied iPads to everyone k-12! Over 5000!
