    It’s been 35 years .... since I got old lol ... now in my 60s stop training back that far
    I decided to resurrect this Kata to see my recall I remembered most of the pattern and strikes albeit sloppy and blunt but thanks for your your video an you tube I will get this back ...modern times but this is one of the best controlled movement and breathing mind exercises I know

    Fantastic. This is the sort of detailed instruction that you only recieve in person from an instructor - oftentimes one that does not speak english well. A student may forget what was tought and practice incorrect movements when training on their own. You have created a great reference here that covers the subtleties that make the difference between correct form and someone just 'going through the movements'.

      @ Humperdoo
      I think he was trying to say that firstly, you get to learn all these in such details only in a dojo where you of course have to pay for the lesson, and secondly, Paul Walker's instructions given in obviously good English are as good as what you'd get from a Japanese sensei who would likely be more fluent in Japanese than in English.
      If you turn it around, someone who does not understand English well would find it hard to follow what is said, even if he is white because not all whites speak English. So, for eg, an Italian whose knowledge of English is very poor would much prefer that Paul Walker could speak fluent Italian...

    • @mongolchiuud8931

      Yang chensun sorry, I didn't know bad English was a requirement for being a karate master of japanese descent.

    • @yangchensun5546
      @yangchensun5546 Před 6 lety

      @ Humperdoo
      Firstly, you did not understand what Dirk Kingston was saying, and your knee jerk comment was "spoken like a true White male".
      I tried explaining to you that it was not that, and in so many words, but you still couldn't get it. Gosh!
      And you came back with a sarcastic reply suggesting that he or I had said that bad English was a requirement for being a Japanese karate master when neither he nor I had even remotely suggested that.

    Thank you! I have 3 more Katas to learn for my black belt test in January, and this is one.
    I have to teach myself these 3 Katas, as we do not have time to get over them at all in class, and this is by far the best and easiest to follow video I have found for Bassai Dai.

    As a Shorei Goju Ryu stylist, I have to say that we run that a lot differently. When we run it though it is a little bit more relaxed so it kind of flows a little better. You were kind of tense but again I take a different style of karate and I don't know what your style calls for in this kata. I did kind of like it though. I wonder what the bunkai looks like for this.
