- Bob Weir is my hero. His integration of western music in the jam space is a driving force that inspires my Cosmic Country stylings immensely. His consistent and persistent pursuit of his potential in music through learning, self-health, listener centricity, and undeniable wealth of self leaves me in wonder on a near daily basis. He's simply the man. This is PART 1. I did this first take and as I am typing this, I have several other ideas I will distill out here shortly.

In his prime.. their was no one like him.. so unique.. great mix of
"in the pocket/harmonic" and adventurous "out there" off time dissonant riffs.

Great video Dude! I’ve been playing around with these inversions for years, I was more influenced by Bobby than Jerry early on cuz everyone else wanted to do the Jerry part. It’s awesome to see people get excited about Bob’s playing style. Looking forward to seeing more of this 👍😎🎸🙏

Good vid. Bob's playing is super unique and interesting. He loved using inversions as well as dissonant open strings and notes amd a sharp "stabbing" attack. I think this was to complement and contrast to Jerry's melodicism. Often bob is lower in the mix so its harder to hear all the cool riffs and soloing he actually does (china>rider transition is really a bob solo for example). Without bob's weird style GD doesnt sound like GD
Hearing Bobby isolated is a revelation. Always wished he was a bit more prominent in the mix.

Please do a lesson on fills and licks within a shuffle in the key of A. I see tons of players playing these basic shuffles but filling them up with tons of licks and double stops while staying in that 2nd fret area and A shape position. But i can't find any lessons on this stuff

I'm interested in this. There are times where I feel like I need a choppy rythym sound. And i only have like one tool to do that. Would like to be more varied in these situations. Playing country guitar

Hey, i’m looking into this specific pedal bobby used on tour with dead and company…if anyone out there is familiar with his rig, can you get back to me. the best way i can describe it is by having a really squishy sound-like a wah pedal with a little something extra. you can hear it at about 13:30 on a Let it Grow from the spectrum center in Charlotte on 11/28/17. Huge thanks to anybody who can point me in a direction.
Thats an envelope filter pedal. As for exactly which one, its hard to say. With GD he often used the Ibanez AF-9 using the 'down position' (for example on Shakedown street opening chord against Jerry's Mutron III envelope filter). With Dead & co it seems he tried a few diff new ones. Ive seen a pic where he used a 'micro-tron' which is a recreation of the Mutron III by musitronics original owner.... i've owned one and honestly didnt care for it personally. Mayer uses a Qtron for his envelope sounds.
Original Musitronics mutron III (musitronics logo) is the best. Its expensive but man is it fun and easy to play.

I suggest you set aside your Jerrycentricity for a moment and consider the possibility that Weir was quite capable of developing his style without being "taught' by Garcia. Give Weir some credit! He's stated that he saw his role in the band as providing a connection between Jerry and Phil and said "it became very clear early on" that he could, for example, leave out the roots. Indeed, he utilizes many voicings with the 3rd in the bass. Necessity is the mother of invention.
No this is not the case. Bob studied jazz players like Mccoy Tyner using quartal chords and other voicing concepts
Bob “the other one” Weir doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. My Dead preference is up through the Keith and Donna days. After that keyboards drowned him out and it was less interesting musically to me. Not saying there wasn’t great music made but I liked hearing Bobby.

Danny. I love what you are teaching and hate to be critical but I have a hard time understanding what you're saying. You are swallowing some of your words and talking too fast. Please practice the same clarity of articulation that all singers need.
