Interesting to here you did not find a noticeable difference in Move battery life between Bluetooth and WiFi. I returned my first Move when I was initially testing Move battery on WiFI giving approx 6hrs at 50%. The same thing happened on my second move. But then I thought, I wonder if it’s different on Bluetooth. So I tried that and then I got a good 10hrs. The best advice I got from Sonos was that WiFi does consume more power than Bluetooth. Given that my first and second Move performed in more or less the same way I just kept the second Move. Perhaps different WiFi routers/environments and shorter distance between WiFi router and Move would give my Move better battery performance. Regardless, from a sound point of view I think the Move is very good. Much better handling bass and volume than the “One” speaker and has very impressive portable sound out in the garden. Personally I would have preferred Sonos to let people use the Move in the same way as any other “fixed” speaker. With a sub and in any config they wished. Let the customer be responsible for how they want to use their own speaker. They could have easily auto shut off a paired sub when the speaker is removed from the charging ring. If there was greater flexibility I would use multiple Moves instead of multiple Ones in some rooms.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, czcams.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

  • @seanb1081
    @seanb1081 Před 4 lety +72

    Brilliant professional review. Well done!
Surprised that you forgot to mention another feature of this brilliant little speaker.
Let me explain......I have been a Sonos user for over 5 years now. Prior to me purchasing the Sonos move I already had
    2 x Play1’s
    2 x Play 5’s
    1 x Play Base
PlayBase and the play1’s are used for a complete surround sound system for the TV
And the two play 5’s are in an (undercover) outdoor entertainment area.
Here in Australia the summers can be hot and sweaty!,so I do tend to spend a fair bit of time down the back of the house where the 2 x Play5’s are located. Whilst I have never had and complaints about the sound quality of any of these speakers it was (until recently) frustrating that I couldn’t play any audio via my IPad (IE from CZcams, Podcasts etc) to the Play5’s unless the audio stream was recognised and compatible with the Sonos App. But that’s not a problem anymore since purchasing the Sonos MOVE!
Because the new Sonos Move has built in Airplay2 ability, I can now stream ANY audio source on the iPad via Airplay2 to the Move and THEN...I just group my older style Play5’s (which Don’t have Airplay2 ability) to the MOVE. Thus giving the ability to stream audio form CZcams to any other grouped Sonos speaker and it doesn’t matter if some of your older don’t have Airplay2 ability.
One thing I did have problems with initially was that I kept loosing the group connection between the Move and the older Play5’s. After researching a bit I found out that I needed to upgrade my old Sonos Bridge to the new Sonos Boost which now has ...well boosted....the connection between all speakers.
Sonos here in Australia gave me a 30% discount off the price of a new Boost as I was a previously registered owner of the Sonos bridge
Discount code was emailed to me automatically once Sonos knew that I had added a MOVE to my system.
Total cost of new BOOST, direct from Sonos Australia $104.30 AU with free postage.
So in summary, if you want to be able to stream Any Audio! From an Apple device (that is capable of Airplay2) to any and all of your older non Airplay2 compatible Sonos Speakers. Get the new Sonos Move! But be prepared that you may also need to upgrade an old Sonos Bridge device to the new Sonos Boost.
Thanks for reading my rave ...I have always been happy with Sonos and now I’m VERY happy!

Hi, seems like you have been in the Sonos system for a while now, I just purchased my first set of Sonos One Gen 2 about 6 months ago. I went back and forth with support trying to get Alexa to work on them but no luck at all, I gave up communicating with them which I shouldn't have but I truly felt they did have the solution. I CAN NOT GET ALEXA TO WORK WITH THE SPEAKERS . I am able to have Alexa respond through it like asking for the time, but it is un able to play any music, turn on any smart devices or anything. I could in the otherhand connect google assistant to it and that works perfectly. Have you connected alexa to a Sonos one device before and got it working perfectly?

@@kevinesparza3020 I had an issue with connecting alexa for months!! Took me hours of time and trying to reset the speaker, searching online ect. Then I finally worked out what was wrong with my speaker. I was logged into different spotify accounts through the alexa app and my sonos app and then suddenly everything worked! That even fixed the radio somehow.
Let me know if this helps!

I bought a Sonos move a couple of weeks ago mainly to take away in my caravan as the fitted audio is so unbelievably bad and I wanted something that would work with Bluetooth. I've got several other Sonos products so it will complement them whilst at home. It's a great product and in my view lives up to everything it claims. Sound quality is brilliant. However be warned. I bought it just before we went away for a couple of weeks and intentionally didn't take the dock as it could be charged with a usb charger. I managed to get a couple of days out of it but now I can't use it as it won't charge. Sonos say you need at least a 36 watt charger. I was trying to charge it with an Anker 24 watt 12 volt car charger and it won't charge. So either make sure you always use the dock or have a powerful enough usb charger.

I purchased 2 Moves about 4 weeks back and I absolutely love them. In the past I would use two of my play ones and everyone probably understands what I had to do each time I put them outside. I use one on my deck and one in my garage. So easy now. Just pick up and go, I love them. Don't have play 5's yet but 2 of them are in my future. I have been a sonos user for over 5 years and I own 9 speakers so far. I have play 1's and play 3's and now the moves. I also use a boost for greater range. One or two in every room, almost! 💟 sonos

Thanks , I wasn’t going to buy it for £400, I got it from Sonos direct for £320 . I have a play one in conservatory , Alexa play in kitchen and take the move into the garden , a large garden . All playing as a group is incredible , different sound levels . But the move on its own is without doubt worth even the £400 , the features of Alexa and Bluetooth, battery lasts forever , the base and sound quality is just immense . Heard all the Bose , this destroys it and all your ultimate ears , can’t tell you how pleased I am

A good video. I just got my Move and I think Sonos has nailed it. They could have gone 2 ways on portable as you implied at the end of the video - either a smaller lighter speaker more suitable for travelling but that would have involved some compromises on sound quality or what they actually delivered with the Move. To me the clue is in the name, the Move is not designed to be a particularly portable speaker to throw in a backpack when travelling, it’s a moveable speaker that can be moved (carried) to somewhere else in the house, very probably the garden or patio, and give really good sound quality instead of having to put up with some tinny little bluetooth speaker with no real bass. That’s exactly the use case I bought mine for and the Sonos Move really delivers; I would have begrudged any compromises on the sound quality had Sonos gone smaller and lighter. I definitely think the Move is worth the money.

Another Apple sucker but what more could I expect but to praise Apple for all of their ingenious (sarcasm) yet deplorable product design tactics LOL praise be lord Apple please take our money and spit in our faces while laughing at our mass stupidity. One, brand loyalty is a joke and only strengthens companies BS money grubbing tactics and Two, every single decision made by Sonos (Apple) and I mean EVERY revolves around ways to take and even better yet, continually (subscriptions) take your money! Because it's not enough to charge overpriced amounts for very over-rated and limiting products. Unfortunately it doesn't end at paying a premium amount for a product oh no you then have to keep paying to actually be able to use your premium device you plebs 🤣🤌 literally can not use without subscription services mind you that is just the tip of the iceberg and people will praise them for it 🥳 bravo Sonos or should I say Apple and a bigger Bravo for also acquiring/ruining Bose 👏👏 (how is that not anti competitive behaviour or conflict of interest)

Moreover, as it CAN connect to a pair of ones - and the ones can connect both to the soundbar and the sub - can it be part of this whole group through the ones?

No need to delay and talk when switching over to the next speaker while sound testing. This would render sound difference more immediately and noticeably.

According to Sonos support, the Move WILL form stereo pairs using wifi but NOT over Bluetooth.

Hi thanks for a great review, but I still have 1 question:
I can't seem to connect to my Sonos move with my Android via Bluetooth. Right now I can only use the Move in the Sonos app, which is limiting the usage. Can you help me out?

I own two play3 speakers and find it very strange sonos cancelled those. For my living room the play5 was too much and the play1 was too weak.
The sonos move is pricey and doesn't really appeal to me in any way. A JBL charge, UE boom, or even a JBL boombox seem like the better choices.
    Great video by the way!

This was very well done and informative. I am trying to decide whether to install a Sonos Five (or pair of Solo Five's) on the patio outside my house for music outside or get a Sonos Move and enjoy its portability.

Hi Gary, it's a question we do get quite a lot.The Fives are more of a studio quality speaker so will definitely give you more audio quality and being a stereo speaker, more width too. However, it's not a weatherproof speaker so you'd have to take it indoors when not in use (plus it requires a mains power connection at all times). The Move still offers great sound quality but it's a lot more convenient on the portability side so perfect for outdoors. My advice would be to start with a Move if it's specifically going to be for the patio, see if the sound quality is enough for you, then look to a more permanent outdoor solution if it's not going to be right for you. Hope that helps!

I own many play 5 and I was hoping to add the Move to be able to play the sound from my tablet ( like say youtube) to all my Sonos devices but when comnected to the Move via Bluetooth you lose connectivity to all other Sonos decice which are on Wifi... So its useless for me :-(

Exactly. This is not how you A/B speakers. How does a speaker guy not know this? Then again, the actual sound of the review is mostly pointless done of the internet with who knows what mic he's using.

Hi, I bought this speaker 2 weeks ago, and I was wondering... if I turn off the sonos for and hour, the battery charge always decrease, from 90% to 85% approximately, my question is: is it normal? does my battery isn´t working right?... I hope anyone can give me some advice PD: I always turn off the speaker before I go to sleep, and the battery charge is even lower when I turn it up in the morning

I have 2 Sonos play ones and also a sonos move. The 2 sonos play ones sound better when compared to the single sonos move. That’s probably due to the fact you have stereo sound from the play ones.
